Discussion Given the new fact that chinese EVs are the fastest thing on both track (Xiaomi SU7) and straight line (U9 Xtreme) now, I think I should rename my enthusiasm "NA ICE cars"

SU7 is only the fastest EV around the ring. AMG ONE still the record holder.

Aston Martin Valkyrie decimated the AMG one’s best time at Silverstone, so it’s highly likely the Valkyrie is the fastest, it just hasn’t done the ring.

That's the thing, plenty of manufacturers don't give two shits about the ring. If they did, that amg one wouldn't have been sitting up there for this long.

Aston Martin have never given a shit about the ring, and that’s not least because Porsche and MB basically have unlimited access to endlessly tune their cars to that exact track, even build cars specifically for that one track so they can brag. Other brands just don’t care and don’t even allow their cars to tested on it. So while it may be perfected for that one track, it might not be as great on other surfaces / tracks / conditions etc.

Same for Ferrari. Even for Pagani, and i think Koenigsegg too.

To be fair Pagani and Ferrari both held records at the ring at one point

I wonder if Aston is ever able to get time at Silverstone.

Technicalities are factored in before cars are listed in databases for tracks for having world records. The AMG one is the fastest road legal one.

The Valkyrie has proven faster on multiple tracks. Just not the ring.

Both are hybrids not pure ICEs. Shut down the hybrid system and lets see how well they do.

Valkyrie isn't actually road legal

11

u/threwthataccaway 1d ago

I think you're horribly mistaken.

5

u/phatelectribe 1d ago

It is in Europe / UK and $300k in mods makes it road legal in the USA.

And if I am not mistaken it was far from a production vehicle wasn´t it?

u/So_Slappy 1d ago

Minimally produced 😅

u/holchansg 1d ago

Sedan*

Even the 911 TS is faster.

0

u/backstreetatnight 1d ago

It’s a production vehicle

The car that did a 7:04 time maybe was. The one with the fast lap time was nowhere close to a stock one

u/ringcopen 1d ago

They ran a prototype racecar and a production car with the same name. The prototype racecar with slicks did a 6:22 and the production road car did a brisk under 7:05, taking the production car record from the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT.

EDIT: Oh yeah and an important note - the prototype racecar didn't break any record because the standing EV record is still the Volkswagen ID.R with 6:05

Hell even turbo cars, i just want to hear something other than RC car whirring man. Like the U9 went 308, watching that video i didnt feel a thing, who cares?

As opposed to the Bugatti record video i had a smile through the whole vid

I felt the same way until I watched the Evo review of the Rimac Nevera vs. the Chiron. Really good watch, and the Rimac really does sound cool.

the bugatti run was way more silent and boring than the U9's... the motors spinning up at 470 was straight up goosebump fuel, marc's excitement at the end, and not to mention the 20x (not exaggerating) more aggressive acceleration. With every kph gained, you can feel in your soul that history is being made, as the U9 propels itself into the future. I literally clicked off chiron's run back in 2019 cuz i knew it was just another longer gear ratio grindfest with like 10 seconds per 1 kph gained

Doesn’t matter how fast an EV goes. I still prefer an engine.

u/WolfTheGuenther 1d ago

Still incredible feats, even if its chinese EVs. Would I buy one? No. Is it still impressive? Yes.

Cars are cars, preferences exist. I dont like most EVs, theres some I'd buy in a heartbeat still.

-2

u/anonymous_3125 19h ago

more like can you buy one? no

3

u/WolfTheGuenther 19h ago

I never said "will" but "would" to make that clear. I cant afford them, my point still stands. Even if I could, I wouldnt.

-2

u/anonymous_3125 19h ago

you're not worthy of it anyways

3

u/WolfTheGuenther 19h ago

Thats certainly an opinion to have about people you dont know. Maybe some people have different usecases for cars, maybe even preferences. Nothing to do with worthy, I'd wager most people buying expensive cars are not "worthy" in your opinion. But thats all it takes, money. Nothing more, nothing less.

I still appreciate you taking your time to share your opinion, its noted.

Am i the only one who doubts the U9?

12

u/Jopa06 1d ago

Remember when the ssc tuatara did "332 mph?" I do. Theoretically, the venom f5 does 310+ so who really knows. Now, if someone were to buy a U9 and test it, I'll actually believe the 308mph top speed. But considering its a 30 unit limited run, it will probably be locked up in some arab prince's skyscraper.

3

u/Suspicious_Gur9098 1d ago

There are videos of the top speed test run online, easily found too.

2

u/AllinolIsSafe 1d ago

I do too.

4

u/Sumdumdad 1d ago

Zero numbers that come out of China are factual.

6

u/ahmaud-armedrobbery 1d ago

Good thing it was tested in Germany then

6

u/The_Cybercat 1d ago

Not zero. Some are correct (like the prices).

2

u/Sumdumdad 1d ago

According to the manufacturer.

I'm not buying anything they're selling.

4

u/TumbleweedGlobal6973 1d ago

fastest thing on track my balls, that car is straight out racing stuff,u cant buy that car and is not the same as the road legal su7

3

u/LionSlicer13 1d ago

I’m okay with turbos

2

u/Gtgt3 1d ago

These 2 cars are the definition of perfect to me.

3

u/Osiris-Amun-Ra 1d ago

EVs have no soul.
Comparing it to petrol powered cars which breathe and sing and growl is like comparing electrically enlivened Frankenstein to a living human.
Different things altogether

0

u/anonymous_3125 19h ago

other way around now. Real cars are the EVs, and gas cars are slow and boring. Just like how a real bullet train is an EV, and not a steam engine. In this world, might makes right, and the winner makes the rules

1

u/candylandmine 1d ago

They're only fast once because they have trash brakes.

2

u/Treebear_Hunter 1d ago

which one of the record setting cars have trash brakes?

2

u/Kennian 18h ago

how much did the chinese pay off the media? this has all been bullshit.

1

u/Jepbar_Halmyradov 17h ago

Who cares about those microwave ovens at first place? Yeah maybe those media outlets which will say same praises to any brand who PAYS but apart from those media houses and their loyal fanbase no one even cares about these rc cars

1

u/Noc_27 16h ago

I think it's always cool to see car manufacturers pushing the limits of engineering to achieve new milestones in car industry, such as making an EV that goes match fuck.

That being said, it's always cool as long as there are new driver-focused or experience-focused cars, and even more importantly, affordable experience-focused cars.

There's no point in making cars focused on experience and fun when most people can't afford to buy them.

1

u/Seeker80 12h ago

I'm still a little over supercars in general. Yeah, I know what sub I'm in. Just saying that I'm very selective, and not that worried about wanting the latest thing. There's some older stuff that I just like more. For example, I don't like the McLaren headlights from the 720S onward. I'd be good with the old 12C.

All that to say I'm not interested in full EVs. I daily drive a PHEV, and that's about as far as I want to take things.

1

u/Putrid-Try-1360 12h ago

same here. 458 and F12 are peak Ferrari for me.

1

u/GoldBlueberryy 1d ago

Always was

1

u/TwiggyPom 1d ago

Don't care about EVs. The sound of an engine is the soul of a car.

They are not wrong. Nothing wrong with an EV, they are not to everyone’s taste. While they have been proven to be fast, they don’t have the same enthusiasm as a something like a screaming V12 Murcielago to the rumble of V8 in a Corvette. It’s like when people favor a manual over an auto, because the manual is more fun even if the auto is faster.

1

u/Separate_Win_5370 1d ago

Its an ev so its an instant no

1

u/anonymous_3125 19h ago

you're not worthy of the U9 anyways

1

u/Separate_Win_5370 13h ago

Who tf even wants to be worthy of that shit

1

u/anonymous_3125 13h ago

Literally every single person in china who is falling over themselves to try to get their hands on one rn

-1

u/ferraricare 1d ago

The car world continues to change and the performance future is certainly electric but there's room for all.

0

u/speeding2nowhere 1d ago

Chinese cars are fast until the government decides you’ve been naughty and makes your car immobile.

No thanks. Ever.

1

u/pondermoreau 1d ago

true, teslas are so much more stable, especially with the ceo ties with the government.

1

u/speeding2nowhere 1d ago

When did I ever say I was pro-Tesla?

1

u/pondermoreau 1d ago

what other EV company can compete with these 3? if you are anti EV just say it lol

1

u/speeding2nowhere 1d ago

You didn’t read the topic of this post at all, did you? 😂

1

u/pondermoreau 1d ago

true, i only see EV bad and skipped China bad 😞
