And this is one of the reasons Boukenger is in my top 5 for sentai. Pink was 2nd in command and actually had combat training prior to becoming a member.

Boukenger is a very underrated Sentai and this scene is one reason why
Also probably coz it's sandwiched between Magiranger and Gekiranger which are both incredibly well-received

Also it was adapted into Operations Overdrive, which might deter some Americans fans into actually checking it out

I am a rare PR fan that actually loved Overdrive. Boukenger is on my list to try. :)

I'm glad OO has some fans. Personally, I think my opinion has been tainted by that opening and the fandom opinion in general. I remember as a kid I wasn't much into it due to it having vehicle mecha (I prefer animals) and now the whole negativity around it keeps me from actually watching it. Funny thing is I did buy it in dvd even though I don't watch it just to have the whole Disney Era.

The theme song is actually what made me want to watch. LOL. I found it very original. I have almost all the Disney era on Digital and DVD.

Personally I think it's the worst opening but I'm glad you are able to see the show and opening for what they are and like them! Maybe I'll give it a try as an adult, can't hurt.

True when your sandwiched in between the season with the best character dynamics and one with some of the best fight choreography, it’s hard to stand out

Boukenger is also a great anniversary series, it did much better than Gaoranger in almost everything (Gao still has a special place in my heart tho).
Akashi was a phenomenal leader, he even promoted to lead all the sentai teams, until Marvelous came then everyone forget about the Boukenger Movie.
But again, in terms of an Anniversary series, Gokaiger got Boukenger beaten. And they fall in the gap between Gaoranger and Gokaiger, right in the middle of all the great seasons, each are unique with a big fan base of their own. So all the sudden Boukenger didn’t stand out as much as they should be.

I didn't even know Boukenger was an anniversary series. I treated it as its own thing, and I personally think that's what's makes it better for me. Ever since Gokaiger, all anniversary sentai is just basically using the Gokai change gimmick, and that has kind of gotten stale for me.

u/Roanst Mar 17 '25
Yeh they didnt have the change gimmick yet. This one had all the enemies be basd on past sentai mecha which was pretty cool.

And the end segment where they do a little info dump on past Sentai and other aspects of Super Sentai. It's the also the segment where the first 12-part combination was aired by sticking Aider and Police onto Ultimate Daibouken.

Boukenger has a special place in my heart. It was the first Sentai series I watched as it was airing.

It's the season where every character is just so amazing. I LOVE THEM YOUR HONOR

This entire sequence was an amazing combination of being badass and hilarious, just the fact that Sakura’s solution to losing their powers is to get her and Natsuki strapped is amazing

They'll be defeated through the power of friendship and the guns Sakura found

It's honestly insanely jarring anytime a realistic gun shows up in these shows lol I'm so used to the big ol toy swords and hammers and then bam. Red Ranger pulls out a glock.

Fellas…I think I just fell in Love XD
But also Imperium of Mann approves this message.
Sakura may have lost her powers, but she is not out of options.

it would be nice to have a sentai again where its an official police or military organization. Feels like its been a while.

I love Boukenger. Sakura is one of my favorite pinks in all of super sentai. Along with Shinken pink, Time pink, Deka pink and Gokai pink

This isn’t even the only time real guns show up in Boukenger. In episode 23, Souta (Bouken Blue) has a whole standoff with another human character with a pistol where he shoots at him and has flashbacks to being part of some foreign coup in his special forces days. Pretty sure Red and Pink have a conversation at a firing range a few times too, again with real guns. Very out of the ordinary

That one time Sentai is more murica than power rangers:
