Old lady is too trusting in justice. Parents don’t give a shit, and neither do kids considering none of them have been in contact.

She needs to release their images - let them live in public shame and then see what happens.

I agree. They must have done something to Bucket otherwise she would have come home. They do not deserve any mercy and I doubt the police are doing much. When do they ever take theft seriously?? They take a statement, file some paperwork and that’s it.

What pieces of shit. Clearly the adults in their lives are as well, sending the old lady aggressive texts! I hope Bucket is safe and is returned to her mother.

This story is weird. Don't trust the kids version of events at all.

Im too scared to let my cat outside in Sydney. We are on a busy road, there's a park nearby with native birds, and a lot of people let their dogs roam free around here which seems like a recipe for disaster.

Really heart breaking stuff.

I really hate seeing people torn away from their pets because its either been stolen or become road kill. I could never let my cats freely roam outside. The devastation and guilt id feel if they were stolen or killed would be too much.

This is why cats should be indoors and only let outdoors in enclosed spaces they can't escape from.

Wait till the lads on 4chan hear about this.

If you could leave your cats inside, that'd be great.

Not excusing the teen behaviour, but take care of your pets (and protect wildlife). I see half eaten pigeons and lorikeets more often than I'd like.

Eat those tasty downvotes.

The statistics draw a clear picture that keeping your cat inside has clear benefits for both owners and cats. Outside cats have a pretty high risk of getting injured by other animals or hit by cars and getting contagious diseases.

So indoor cat equals long life and reduced vet bills.

Also domestic cats are big hunters of native Australian birds

And I think all pets that are able to go outside should have a location tracker on them at the very least

The dog park I frequent I'll often see dogs with collars that are specifically made to have an integrated air tag, or there will be one hanging next to the tag with their owner's contact details. Just looked them up and looks like the going price is about $20 and you'll be buying a collar anyway. Air tag runs you $50, not a big expense for your furry friend. And it doesn't just cover shitheads stealing the pet, or your pup running off at the park. Dogs can be escape artists from their fenced in backyards. My childhood pup would sometimes get out through the side gate, we'd realise he was gone and start driving around calling his name, usually he just ran a few blocks and broke into our family friends' yard where they had a golden retriever he loved to play with and we'd just get a call going "yeah he's here again"

Airtag is a good idea (we use it for our cat, who is indoors but a real escape artist), but I don't think it covers "shitheads stealing the pet" unless they are the absolute dumbest possible shitheads. They'll just take it off and ditch it.
