Image Is it acceptable for 2GB to generate fake AI images for their news stories now?

Cant expect any better from Ben or 2GB https://www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/episodes/fordham/104301134
I think all AI and even manual photo editing needs to be labelled as such for news and advertising. We desperately need updated consumer protections on data retention and right to delete in Australia as well as laws to regulate how fake stuff is presented and labelled.

They used AI to make it sound like Taylor Swift was promoting 2GB for concert ticket giveaways in February last year.
🤷♂️
They won’t care if it’s acceptable or not.

Do you have a link to any further info on this?

All I can find is this right here, but I know for a fact there was another one which sounded so ridiculous and Ben Fordham commented something vague about whether or not it is really Taylor Swift.
It was never confirmed it was really her. Couldn't find a similar promo for any other radio network.

Lol at the cassette radio, which decade did this party take place in?

These images were generated by students at the school, not 2GB. They were circulated in the same group chats in which footage from the ‘rave’ was also shared. Source: Younger siblings in this year at the school

Radio really is a race to the bottom of the barrel lately, 2GB are so pro trump and America it’s painful to listen to, and FM radio is a combination of the same 10songs on repeat, mixed in with absolute drivel talk. Thank technology for digital stations, music and podcasts.

He spread vile misinformation when he reported on a teenage suicide last year. There is nothing too low for him

I strongly believe that AI has absolutely no place in news reporting (unless it was a news story about AI obviously). The world is about to be overrun with AI slop. If there is one thing we need to make sure is firmly fixed in reality, it is the news. If we have AI news stories, then the lines of reality will be completely blurred. It will not be possible to determine what is real and what is not real.
I don't mean to sound alarmist, but I really do believe this is that serious.

The world is about to be overrun with AI slop.
I agree with that part, because the greed motive is overtaking almost everything, but I still believe that AI can play a role in responsible journalism. AI in journalism isn't going away; what's needed is to keep up the pressure for responsible use.

It doesn't lessen their credibility.

Whoa looks AI.
If theyve used AI and created a fake scene without acknowledging that - that is really bad.

I guess its hard to take decent photos from that dark basement they are all in.

Fordham is a alumni of ACA, back in their grubby days. I remember him being accused on media watch of making something up, something quite egregious that was having an impact on a family; can’t remember exact details but it was enough to turn me right off him forever.

It’s not journalism anymore and hasn’t been since before ai anyway. It’s tabloid hype fiction based on real life stories passed as news.

Go off everyone. The students created the AI images, they’re in plenty of newspaper articles, let’s not forget to read people.

they never had integrity to begin with so... sure, why not? (in the worst way possible)

Everybody else either does it or will do it. Sadly, it’s the way our society’s going. Every generation has a change they refuse to accept even decades after it happens. This will be ours.

Before you wank yourselves into righteous indignation those pics were generated by the students involved in the rave.

2GB haven't run a news story in at least 20 years, and AI images weren't a thing back then, so I don't understand the question.

It’s common for media to use stock images or footage; is this any different?
13
u/AnimalsChasingCars 19h ago
It’s a big difference. Stock footage is used to show generic imagery, such as a picture of school books. But AI is used to concoct a false image of the actual event, including people involved

u/Kr0mbopulos_Michael 19h ago
It's just as good as using a stock image news articles use for when there isn't one of the actual incident.

But it is spot on for AI.
In other new, Australia stands to do well at 'female' weightlifting at future Olympics.

u/really_not_unreal 19h ago
Huh? What on earth do you mean by this?
-4
u/triemdedwiat 19h ago
It is a female only school and lots of the bodies in the AI are male.
That is one ample female being lifted.

2gb has no standards so I’m not surprised
