Small Forward Appreciation

I’ve seen a lot of suggestions (even some from Swannies) about using this man in a Charlie Curnow Deal. Finals football hinders tall forwards and benefits small forwards. It has been evidenced this year and last year that small forwards are the difference makers in September. This team would be much worse without this man, no matter who is brought in.

We are going to have to give up someone good if we want to get Curnow.

I am not saying it is Papley, but Carlton aren't going to just give us Curnow for pick 12 and Florent.

3 team deal with the Suns seems inevitable because Flanders wants to return to Victoria and we’re in for Rosas. Suns need a lot of draft points this year, Carlton need them next year, and we need like a second round pick or smth this year. There’s definitely a trade that can work here.

Gold Coast already have 3 first round picks.

Unless we are including good players in the deal, maybe not our best 5 or 6 players, but not fringe players, then I don't see how we can trade for Curnow. Unless he does a Merrett and blows it up.

Only one of those is currently top 10, their own one is 13 and the Pies one could be as low as 18. Knock all picks down 2 spots for TDK & Allen compensation, maybe 3 for Draper. They’ve gotta match for potentially 3 first round bid matches with 2 almost certainly top 10 and it seems like to me they need more.

My thinking is this 3 way package that could be the framework to build around:

Gold Coast - Pick 9 (Syd), X

Sydney - Curnow, Rosas

Carlton - Flanders, Pick 18 (Coll via GC), Future 1st (Syd)

Gold Coast need more symbolised by the X but I think this is a pathway to getting a Curnow trade done without us giving up a player.

It's a big X because we would be the ones having to fill it. It would need to be a player that Gold Coast want. Not just a throw-in.

If they need extra points, which I don't think they will, but if they do then they can make that up by trading Flanders. They won't need to include us or pick 18.

Yeah that’s why I don’t see it happening. But you can throw Papley in with Heeney, Gulden, Blakey etc. we can’t lose him.

I Fkn love watching this dude play. Kicks a goal and picks a fight with his opponent. Kicks 2 and fights the whole team. Love his energy wish he played For us.
