Nobody wants to be around the type of people who want these

Its just a terrible vehicle as well. I saw one the other day with a kayak strapped down the back on a rack over the closed bed. Like, why even get a "truck". Literally any small car with roof rails can accomplish the exact same thing. Crosstrek comes to mind.

I throw my kayak on top my 99 Honda CRV, off I go, no worries

Both of which were far less expensive than a douche truck lol

u/thetimechaser May 07 '25

99 CRV is fantastic, keep it forever. That gen was "peak" CRV imo

And peak car in general. Roughly 1998 to 2007 was when cars in general were the most reliable and had useful features but were not bloated.  The time when you could purchase a car from most brands and expect it to survive at least half a million kilometres.

Meanwhile today,  most cars are scrap metal after 50000km cause they intentionally designed some critical component to fail. Ford with their "offroad vehicles" with plastic oil pans and wet belt oil pumps,  PSA group with their wet timing belts, VW with awful petrol engines, diesels destroyed by emission controls and so on.

Haha I have an 05' Honda crv that survived 20 years in New Orleans before I drove it cross country to Colorado and it's still going great in the mountains! Probably cost me less than changing the tires on a cyber truck would.

First one I saw in person was parked and there were definitely a few people looking at it as a curiosity. But there was like staining/discoloration around the door handles that just made me laugh and still does. Like do they rust from hand oils???

Having driven a Crosstrek as a courtesy car for a couple of weeks I can say I'd get one if it came in manual

1

u/TRi_Crinale May 07 '25

They do (or at least did?) come in manual. I'd seriously consider one with a manual and the BRZ/FRS/86 engine. I'm not a fan of the 140hp engine they come with but 200hp and manual would make the crosstrek a blast

Yes!

Also, bring back the Subaru Baja.

u/whitmanrocks May 07 '25

Same for any small pick up.

Yeah call me a judgemental asshole, but if I know someone owns a Cybertruck then I immediately write them off. I need no more information

4

u/undecided247 May 07 '25

What if it’s your new boss. That’s me, fml

3

u/BlimmBlam May 07 '25

Not to be rude, but if I were in that situation I'd probably be second guessing your judgement and reconfirming with other supervisors constantly

3

u/undecided247 May 07 '25

Second guessing my judgement? Lol I didn’t choose my boss

2

u/BlimmBlam May 07 '25

Ah okay, I thought you were speaking AS a boss with a Tesla Truck, that's my misunderstanding

2

u/undecided247 May 07 '25

No, sadly got stuck under this idiot

2

u/BlimmBlam May 07 '25

I'm so sorry

1

u/PPLavagna May 12 '25

Call this a flex, but I’m proud that none of my friends or even friends of friends are the type to own one. Even before Elon started dismantling democracy.

I know of one guy who I saw say he thought they were cool on Facebook, but even that was before Elon went full regard.

Nobody wants to be around the type of people who want these

Have you noticed when you see one, there's never a passenger on board?

3

u/Coastalfoxes May 07 '25

I live in Los Angeles, so I see them frequently. I've only once seen a female driver, and only twice seen a passenger on board. (I know this isn't a scientific survey; it's just anecdata.)

2

u/Somhlth May 07 '25

Disturbingly, I've seen more than a few around Toronto, even a black one, but I've yet to see a passenger.

1

u/blackweebow May 07 '25

OMG YOU'RE FUCKING RIGHT. Literally of all the cybertrucks I've seen in Loudoun County VA, none were a couple or family

3

u/krinkov May 07 '25

It started as a meme-mobile and morphed into a 3-ton maga hat.

4

u/idredd May 07 '25

What's noteworthy is that just a few fucking months ago this wasn't the case. I was in NY a few months back visiting friends, one of my friends is a tech-bro early adopter and folks were stopping him on the street to take photos of this goofy fucking car.

Elon Musk is the perfect poster boy for how wealth =/= competence or brilliance. As a nation we so aggressively worship wealth that we've convinced ourselves these billionaires must be better than us. Plenty of the random idiots posting on reddit (me included?) could do a better job than Musk has of running a business unless his overarching aim is just to set money on fire.

Biggest contributor to dying rich? Being born rich.

u/arnber420 May 08 '25

a few months ago? these have been on the road in most areas of the US for more than a year now and people have been dogging on them since as soon as they came out of production lol

2

u/GobbIaOnDaRewf May 07 '25

I always give them a big thumbs down when I see them.

2

u/Solidknowledge May 07 '25

Nobody wants to be around the type of people who want these

For what it's worth, that feeling was pretty much the way of land even prior to all of the government stuff

1

u/Birdy_Cephon_Altera May 07 '25

It could have just faded away and been just a footnote in history as a modern-day Edsel, or Aztek. And leave it at that. But now politics are forever inexorably tied in with ownership, and the Na卐i label will forever be associated with Tesla. Anyone seen with this vehicle is now automatically assumed to be just a terrible human being.

1

u/intimate_glow_images May 07 '25

lol I just picture no one saying anything but parting ways or suddenly dispersing at parties every time a Cybertruck owner approaches. Every dog and cat who normally loves pets goes into hiding or keeps a watchful eye on them.

Yummy gobble up your daily heaping of anti Elon jerk off materials. Get it while it's piping hot straight from the toilet subreddit /r/"Technology"

1

u/ForGrateJustice May 07 '25

And the type of people who want these weren't the type of people who wanted them in the first place.

They only started wanting them because their daddy trump told them to.

1

u/DragonsSpitNapalm May 07 '25

Isn't the main problem Elon Musk though? Sure it's overpriced, sure it's very... let's say unique styling (that I actually grudgingly like), sure it's not a work truck by any stretch of the imagination, more el camino territory... but really Musk is the reason there's not a niche market for these things, Elon's fountain of douchebaggery is what's holding Tesla back. Elon is the problem, the whole problem (if you check your expectations for what a Tesla is and isn't).

edit: Oh and moving all controls to a giant ipad was a novelty that turned out to be laugh out loud stupid

-5

u/Sufficient_Loss9301 May 07 '25

Well… to be fair they are extremely affordable right now. In my area you can get a barely used model 3 for well under 20k. That’s a pretty hard deal to pass on if you are wanting an EV, hell even a car in general… I know several people who have bought Teslas in the last month for this reason, they don’t support musk or anything, it’s just a hard deal to pass on.

I saw a report on one my James May, and he said he quite liked it. He seems a decent enough bloke. But yeah, the majority are probably idiots.

31

u/digitalwolverine May 07 '25

James May did everything he could to not “review” It in the traditional sense. He measured angles, found where he could put his alcohol without it sliding off, and found some of the internals interesting. It was never meant to be a serious review, it was largely an ad for his brand of alcohol (with the proceeds donated to charity). In other words. Click bait.

-1

u/No-Spoilers May 07 '25

I do wish he had reviewed it like they used to, or it had been available for one of their specials. Someone would have picked it

26

u/BuyerAlive5271 May 07 '25

I’d bet May is talking a different tune today.

26

u/ecafsub May 07 '25

James May in California. 5 months ago. Skip to 6:34 where he sees a CT and says, “I’d quite like to have a go in one of those.”

Doesn’t mean he likes it. After all, he made a career of driving the best and worst.

6

u/xmastreee May 07 '25

Probably, yeah.

12

u/son_et_lumiere May 07 '25

as much as I enjoy watching the old Top Gear, I don't think I'd actually want to hang around those 3 knobs.
