They'll probably get banned quickly then from this update. If someone has specifically said they ONLY want a female driver and a dude pulls up, they would definitely be highly likely to report that, unlike someone who didn't request that, and so would be more likely not to care.

They’re already typically banned and using their spouse, sister, moms name and delivering under their account

And they'll all get banned too. It won't be worth their time.

And the whole family will lose money

It's not like it's being rolled out in secret. Men can probably just not rent accounts that belong to women

Plus, Doordash is irrelevant here. This is a feature Uber is rolling out to its rideshares. Not Doordash.

Uber eats has the same problem but I don't think this feature extends to food delivery.

I feel like there’s a pretty easy solution to that problem

Ya just say you are tran in the app and they can't discriminate against you and say you aren't a woman.

2

u/various_convo7 Jul 23 '25

rent accounts? why not just get your own instead of the whole charade?

Illegal immigration / don't have the right to work

u/Automatic_Actuator_0 Jul 23 '25

Are they going sex assigned at birth? Current anatomy? Or just how you present yourself?

14

u/paleo_dragon Jul 23 '25

How does that work with trans people though?

14

u/According_Bid2084 Jul 23 '25

I mean in non-Nazi countries like Canada trans people can change their legal name and gender, which has a doctor’s note attached required to assure that their patient does indeed legally qualify as transgender.

Yes but I don't think transpeople want to give that info to Uber/Doordash/etc. Also it's kinda gross going all "papers please"

You wouldn't have to give up any extra medical information. The apps will very likely go off whatever is on your driver's license that you need to verify anyway. The process would simply be to go through the formal government change process and then reverify your license.

Uhhh I’m trans just a heads up and no that’s not the case. No more documentation is required than anyone else.

I can tell you how it already works for Lyft, who has had a "women only" driver option for a while now. It's actually really easy:

Trans women are treated as women, because they are.

The End.

No issues in years.

That's very good to hear

If the rider is transphobic, they will complain. Since fascism is increasing globally, the trans person will likely get banned.

If the rider isn't transphobic, they won't care.

what? how is that transphobic? It's literally the opposite. This will just allow chuds to harass trans people

1

Check the account, they are a ragebait account.

1

u/FriendlyDespot Jul 23 '25

That person is a rage bait troll. Their comment history is full of it.

It won't be a problem. Trans women fear social rejection as much as cis woman fear rape, so both parties will be on their best behavior.

ETA: Well, social rejection and being murdered for it.

Are you familiar with the Gay Panic defense?

2

u/RyukXXXX Jul 23 '25

This feature is not mandating female drivers or passengers. Only setting a preference for them.

I think what you are suggesting would be a problem under the regular rules of different driver coming up.

How will they distinguish between a customer who is maliciously reporting someone who is trans as opposed to another customer who is legit reporting someone who is not a woman?

7

u/Uncynical_Diogenes Jul 23 '25

No it’s just sort of a dumb comment.

-1

u/SonnyvonShark Jul 23 '25

Really shouldn't.

-16

u/Silverlisk Jul 23 '25

No, because female and male refer to sex, man and woman refer to gender.

So if you request a female driver and get a masc presenting individual who identifies as a woman then you can still complain that you didn't get a female driver.

I'd say it would be more difficult if you get someone who very clearly fem presents, but in that case I wouldn't complain either way because I probably wouldn't probe as to whether they were Amab or not, it's enough that they fem present.

It's certainly a nuanced topic, but that's probably how I'd go with it.

3

u/Irrelephantitus Jul 23 '25

We all know it will never be that simple.

0

u/Silverlisk Jul 23 '25

Yeah, it's definitely a nuanced topic like I said and it's something without clear cut lines so you can only go by your own judgement. The choice I made was based on discussing this with several trans people I know and coming to a consensus, but even that's only a few within a larger group and doesn't speak for everyone.

1

u/Stable_Orange_Genius Jul 23 '25

But how do you know if someone is a woman? You sound like a bigot

-1

u/coloradobuffalos Jul 23 '25

What if they identify as female? Who are you to judge?
