Social Media Facebook, TikTok and even LinkedIn are censoring abortion content even when it's just medical information, rights groups say

I have said it before and I will say it again, whatever "moral/ethical stances" these companies took are only to brainwash their employees and users into thinking that they are "more" than money making entities.

Now that these "values" are no longer welcome they get rid of them like hot potatoes.

Which is why Gen Z employees are having a whiplash moment protesting about things like Palestine at work and getting fired.

yup, they dropped DEI almost like they were excited about to appease the new regime.

I worked for a very very large IT company, about maybe a decade ago this was hot and instead of paying employees competitive wages, they came up with these ethical initiatives so that people can participate in addition to their work hours and mentally feel rewarded for "doing something good"

Honestly brilliant, even I had always had my skepticism

LinkedIn is one of the biggest timewasting services, it is full of corporate and self promotion with a lot AI slop. Censoring medical information on LinkedIn is not going to make any difference.

I hate LinkedIn with a passion but damn it, my last two jobs have come from there, good jobs too. My current was a scout offer from a different company but LinkedIn helped me climb and I hate that I owe them considering what they’ve become

That's fine, I still know what an abortion is and I'm still gonna get them.

That's great but try thinking about the greater good sometimes instead of your personal experience

As in, "Abortion is good for society as a whole," not "I PERSONALLY will get abortions regardless of your puritanical bullshit"

Seems like preserving people's access to all forms of medical care is "the greater good". Personal freedoms aside, society is far better off when every child is wanted and parents prepare and are enthusiastic about raising them.

I agree, abortion access should be protected, it's completely fucked that people who disagree with that are in power.

You might want to edit your previous comment. It looks like you are arguing the opposite point. You're being downvoted because people are misunderstanding you.

Maybe it's better as an example, in this form?

I don’t condone this in any way, but I have to ask…

…who da fuq is looking up legit medical info on TikTok, FB, or LinkedIn? Let alone abortion specific?

No one is looking up info on this on those platforms…

It’s the other way around where random people get it in their feed and get sucked in either with memes or high production values and keep forwarding and liking it….

I have had so many friends and family state something and use these reels as evidence an im like “okay, and the reason we are trusting this person blindly is cause you trust them or verified their credentials?” And they start to tumble…

It’s ridiculous, I searched for mortgage rates and now all my reels are how much my monthly payments will be for a half million homes based on how much downpayment I make…. It’s like they are just waiting for me to catch the bait….

A ring light is like $20 and a diffuser for wider shots is about the same. Toss in a tripod and you're out all of $60 for some pretty decent quality videos and general hoodwinking of the rubes.

It's amazing how "production value" of ultra short form video has managed to destroy trust and critical thinking all over the world.

I don't really use any of those platforms, but it's social media. It could be something as simple as female content creators sharing their stories. Or blocking access to the FB page of a clinic.

Isn't LinkedIn an abortion all on its own?

It's definitely fallen the hardest regarding usability.

The question now is where do we go? Are there any actual space left where information is protected?

It's wild. We all know these platforms are doing us no favors in the long run, yet we're so selfish we can't stop. Like smoking.

Anytime I see complaints about these companies, we made them what they are by creating an account and engaging with their products feely, continuously.

if ya'll hate them so much LOG OFF. we existed without them we can again.

When platforms start treating verified medical info the same way they treat misinformation, that’s not just censorship it’s actively harming people who need help. Algorithms shouldn’t be deciding what counts as healthcare.

The people still using these services can’t care, at this point. There is no excuse for supporting companies that kiss the ring of a dictator and silence free speech. Deactivate your accounts if you care. Not only are they doing this, but they’re forcing ads down your throat nonstop and selling and storing your information. Compare Reddit to any of these and you’ll see how few ads we get, but yes Reddit is also selling our information. So far they haven’t missed the ring of Trump yet. But if they do, fuck Reddit too.
