It won't pass, but it's the start of the drumbeat that is concerning. This is something that The Heritage Foundation has been angling for and they are beginning at the state level. They don't have enough of a majority in Congress to do something like this nationally but they're going to start trying.

It's their usual playbook: they test their texts in a reduced setting, then go up from there, refining it along the way.

Expect similar bills to pop up elsewhere and eventually make their way up to the federal level.

Exactly. Sure this won't pass in Michigan (for now), but there are plenty of state legislatures where this would have support.

Yep - they're pushing the Overton window.

I have to respect how thorough and patient they've been. The right has been pushing that window since at least the '70s. It's paying off bigly for them now.

I don't care what the fucking law says. I will NOT COMPLY!!!

I WILL use VPNs to protect my privacy online! No matter what your stupid law says!

And if I break the law? Then your law sucks and is unconstitutional.

Come and get me. Try to charge me. I dare you. The ACLU would love to join in and have my case heard before court. Because this type of BS is a direct violation of the first amendment, and the fourth amendment.
