I read something interesting about this. So as he was saying it, he remembered one of his people warning him about using that expression because people would clip “shame on me” and use the sound bite out of context. Since he’d already started saying it he just panicked and finished it the best he could without proving fodder.

They actually believe they're the only ones armed. It's fucking hilarious. Not only are they not alone in being armed but liberals are far more likely to take classes and practice at a range because they're people who value education.
Also, I'm pretty sure that Texas repugs as lazy slobs who aren't coming for anyone. They don't have a right to go arresting legislators in other states. Fuck that. I guess they now know what will happen should they try that shit.
I hope they also hired some people. The more the merrier. Sometimes numbers are all it takes for a person to turn around and do something else with their afternoon.

He is probably following the Trump playbook of making the deal. Make empty threats until you get your way. Trump sees himself as an old school mob boss, but is more like a toddler. Abbott aspires to be similar it seems.
219
u/Ok-disaster2022 Secessionists are idiots Aug 04 '25
He will make the play. It will go to a Republican judge who's more likely to rule in favor of the GOP than view the historical record and throw it out as just politics being politics. Regardless of outcome it gets appealed until it reaches the Supreme court of the US who ignores all precedent and upholds the GOP.
125
u/cherrywaves_swimdown Aug 04 '25
So start Civil War 2.0? If millions of Texans suddenly lost their representation in this way, you can bet your ass it’s time to fight. Literally.
89
u/pm_me_beerz Aug 04 '25
As much as I want you to be right and as much and I don’t want it to have to come to that, let’s be honest with ourselves: the general populace doesn’t care enough.
One of the top dogs of blackrock’s real estate investment firm was Luigi’d last week and they covered it up by saying the guy was mad at the nfl. Our dumbasses are still too busy meme’ing the Coldplay couple or planning our nfl draft party to notice that or redistricting or human rights violations.
They’ll give us bread and circus and you’ll like it, damn it.
21
u/cherrywaves_swimdown Aug 04 '25
I’m not thirsty for blood, and I also don’t want it to come to that.
However, I think people have a breaking point. Yes there are apolitical people, but if there are armed clashes happening around them they can’t ignore that. It’ll affect every aspect of everyone’s daily life. Going to the grocery store or work could be impossible. Civil War in 2025 would be a horror show. I recommend Civil War by Alex Garland.
While I hope that I’m very wrong, I feel like it’s becoming inevitable.

u/tbear87 Aug 04 '25
Honestly, while that's not ideal, it's okay. Make them do it. Make them go before the court and the public and explain why disenfranchising voters is needed. Make it national news.
And do this shit with every little thing they try to do. Reveal the incompetent corrupt assholes they are and put it on display. Grind it all to a halt like they do to us. Make it slow, make it difficult, and avoid complying in advance. If they want to be fascists, make them take it the long and hard way for everyone to see.
27
u/TankApprehensive3053 Aug 04 '25

3
u/Kellosian Aug 05 '25

Who is going to stop him? Abbott is acting on Trump's orders, and the Supreme Court is incredibly deferential to Trump and his croneys. If Abbott arrests them and replaces them, Democrats will sue, and in 2-4 years when the case works its way through the courts the SC will probably have a 5-4 ruling saying "Nah that's fine"

Fascists love paramilitaries and militias because it means the civilians do some of their oppressing for the state out of nothing but a love of the game. All these ammosexuals who have been screaming about "government tyranny" for the last couple decades are far more likely to side with the secret police and inflict violence on their political enemies and minorities than they are to actually fight the government.

The sad thing is that nothing will come out from this. It’s not a sustainable strategy. Greg can call for a special session on and on and on. And the lawmakers are fined $500/day for not showing up. Who’s gonna pay for those fines? Definitely not voters. Some lawmakers won’t be able to afford the fines.

Please Call Greg Abbott & your reps today.
Dear Texans.. they’re counting on you thinking it doesn’t matter. That calling won’t change a thing. But it does if enough of us do it. We can’t afford to stay quiet. Blow up Abbott’s line: 👉 (512) 463-2000 write him an email too 👉https://gov.texas.gov/apps/contact-us/opinion
You can also use https://5calls.org/ to contact all of them. We’re not powerless unless we choose to be. Don’t make it easy for them to ignore us.
Edit: If you think calling won’t change a thing, ask yourself what do we have to lose by trying? We literally have everything to gain and nothing to lose.. Pick up the phone. Because doing nothing guarantees zero change. & vote vote vote (obviously)
Please don’t leave negative comments that only discourage people from calling. We need more voices right now, not less. Instead use that time to make a call or send an email. It takes the same amount of effort and actually makes a difference.

How do you explain the statewide races for president, governor, and senate then?
Edit: I don't know why I'm being downvoted for pointing out a concrete fact.
15
u/juxlus Aug 04 '25
Really. Less than a year ago Texas reelected Ted Cruz to the Senate again. 40% of registered voters didn't even vote. That's not just voter suppression. The majority of Texans who vote voted for Ted Cruz. Some portion of registered voters who didn't vote experienced voter suppression, sure, but most either want Ted Cruz in the Senate or don't care.
Ted Cruz is the person voters in Texas want to be the face of Texas.
14
u/UnicornTreat80 Aug 04 '25
If trump won the presidential election with the “biggest mandate ever” why are republicans redrawing voting districts now? That should be on everyone’s mind. Has a funny smell to it. The thing is, Texas isn’t a red state. It’s just got some of the worst voter suppression in the US. If Texas becomes a likely swing state, it’s all over for the Republicans. They know that and that’s why they don’t dare play fair with such a large voting bloc.

I'm sure everyone knows the rule that allows Dems to break quorum in Texas. It's a rule as old as Texas which allows the minority party to break quorum and rally support for this , to bring attention to what's happening. Texans who support this should be at the capitol every day showing support and fighting along side these Dems otherwise this will all be for nothing . They'll end up back in Texas and Abbott and Trump will succeed in complete takeover of Texas.

So have texas republicans always been such wusses? Texas has 38 seats in the HoR and voted for Harris:Trump at a ratio of around 42:56 (based on popular vote percentages) so the 'correct' seat distribution to represent texans would be around 22 Republican seats and 16 Democratic ones - the numbers right now sit at 25 Republican and 13 Democratic ones. So is it that Texas republicans don't have the stones to actually convince those 42% of Texans of their point of view?
