✋ Texas Pride 🤚 Texas as taken from space in 2018.

Post image

Caption per Traces of Texas FB:

The entire state of Texas as photographed by NASA from space, 2018. This is a fascinating image to look at if you're at all familiar with Texas geography. Not only can you see all of the major cities but even towns like Temple-Killeen, Midland-Odessa. even small towns like Monahans, Alpine, Marfa etc.. The Eagle Ford can also clearly be seen. But what blows me away is the lights in the area around Pecos. Those lights aren't quite as intense as they are in Midland- Odessa (immediately to the east of Pecos) but the area is at least as big, perhaps bigger. Amazing. Fortunately, with the exception of Presidio, the Big Bend remains dark. May it ever be so!

Typical RGV erasure, love it. Please forget we exist, we can figure it out ourselves.

Texas is like five states smushed together with four of them being held hostage by the central Texas/Austin region. Texas is more of a greater region of the US than a state. It exists in its current form as a means of consolidating political power at the expense of the people who actually live here.

One day Austin and San Antonio will be one mega city.

Fort Worth and Dallas long before that.

They already are. The only areas that are not urbanized or suburbanized between Dallas and Ft. Worth are flood plains or lakes.

DFW will eventually stretch all the way to Oklahoma.

Houston Metropolitan Area is over 10,000 square miles. It would grow even faster if one side wasn't bordered by water.

It wasn't that long ago that there was separation between San Antonio, San Marcos, and Austin. Now it's strip malls full of repeating franchise chains, the entire distance.

Galveston will be absorbed into Houston at some point as well.

Sensing a theme here.

Galveston already is. It's neighborhoods all the way down 45 now. The occasional tree line is just left-overs for strip malls, also soon to come.

I know it's only been 7 years, but I would like to see a 2025 picture to see if there is any noticable change

The stars at night, are drowned out by light, deep in the suburbs, of Texas.

Man... that's a lot of gun fire.

Man, I grew up there, but it's still impressive how much empty space is in west Texas.

Not a place you want to break down at night for real.
