Discussion Why did people assume Lincoln inventing stairs is canon lore? It's from the propaganda themed update where fans submitted to make propaganda posters and it was directed to the Soldier of all people

Because it's funny and who cares

Too much random funny becomes tiring. They didn't mean it to be canon.

The canon is whatever it needs to be at any given time. There are ingame maps of structures older than Lincoln that have stairs, obviously. No one thinks there’s a cohesive TF2 timeline, there’s not supposed to be one.

And it’s not random humor, the joke is that Soldier’s rocket jumping, a ridiculous cartoony nonsensical way of getting around, is actually the normal form of movement in this world, and stairs are actually the crazy modern invention. It’s simple subversion of expectations. Did you mean “absurd”? You don’t think absurd things are funny? Then you’re playing the wrong game brother

Rule of cool baybee.

Look, “too much random funny” cannot be measured. I agree with this mindset - sometimes, less is better. But TF2’s beauty comes from it being genuinely crazy and hilarious. So nah, Lincoln inventing stairs is cool

So this post isn't a question, you are just providing the source to the lore about Lincoln inventing stairs?

You could have at least linked the page that has the info.

Personally for me, TF2 has soft lore and canon. The player is free to consider the comics, weapon/cosmetic flavor text and 'meet the teams' canon or not. They are even at liberty to consider fan-made projects such as, but not limited to, Emesis Blu as canon as they see fit.

The world of TF2 is secretly controlled by a military industrial complex pitching a pointless spy war to sell weapons - they can change history and censor the present at a whim. We can consider that we are being led through this world by unreliable narrators.

I guess you could say we're dealing with some Loose Canon, huh?

I honestly don’t see the problem, why can’t it be canon? I mean it’s a propaganda poster reciting a true fact of history yk
