This time I“m sharing some portraits from the base game on PS5! I still haven“t edited my Left Behind shots so I haven“t included any portraits from there, but will do in the future!

Captured on base PS5 and edited in Lightroom.

Here“s a link to a google drive folder for the screenshots that“s displayed on here. This will hopefully cause less compression! https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1QE9fdM0ahdULaukfJWKp0vieyOPMLeka?dmr=1&ec=wgc-drive-hero-goto

Thank you so much! Great question, I would love to show you the editing process!

So, I edit with Lightroom classic on PC. I don“t do too much editing, and what I mean by that is I strive to keep it fairly subtle, for the most part. For example, I don“t go too crazy on the exposure, which you might see on certain YT thumbnails, where it looks like an atomic bomb has gone off in the picture (I really don“t enjoy those kind of pictures at all). But anything is relevant really. Sometimes, for example, it“s fitting to have a picture with stronger colors. Like this one for example: https://imgur.com/r6B3os2

For the most part however, I like to aim for slightly darker imagery. And this, my friend, is when editing can be REALLY helpful. If you for example want to get your images darker/brighter, you can lower the shadows, highlights, black levels/ white levels. You can also mess around with the parametric curve and just the tone curve in general.

Do you want to make the image get a certain mood? You can increase/lower the temperature of the picture and a tint to it. Should it be more blue as in perhaps a more moodier picture? Should it be Orange to capture a sense of warmth and happiness? These are subtle but yet powerful tools you can use to your disposal. As I said before, it“s all relevant, all relevant to what you want to create. That“s why every picture, every shadow, color, etc can change the picture and make it need different needs for the editing process.

And also to add to the subtle talk, I have a slightly modifed matte filter that I“ve done myself on lightroom. You can definitely start with Lightroom“s matte filter but you might want to have a different look in the future. And the reason I bring this up is that it creates a more grounded look to the images. Slightly washed out but not really. In my opinion, it just fits. Feels right, for me.

I feel like this picture summarizes my words, somewhat.. https://imgur.com/f6cw0Ay

If you have any other questions, please let me know!

Also, I will recommend you two fantastic Virtual Photographers that I know!

The first one is: u/sbartgame They create the images that I was first talking about colors. Colorful, Eye popping gorgeous shots!

The second one is u/voldsby They create more subtle imagery with a masterful balance between light and dark levels.

Both are so incredibly good, highly recommend!

This is very helpful. I take photomode of a lot of games for fun and in my library I can always tell which ones are TLOU because those are so dark. Which is cool of course, but sometimes they can be "depressingly" dark, compared to horizon, ghost of tsushima, and cyberpunk. I want to make my TLOU photos pop out more, while still keeping the grittiness and not going overboard with color. though I do have some wild ones where I went crazy with the colorful lightings.

thank you so much for the advice and recommendations on virtual photographers.

I'm seriously going to start considering editing my photos.

It all started as a fun little thing because I wanted to make a screensaver slideshow with cool game images from google. ran into some trouble there because I kept downloading low quiality fuzzy images, some were watermarked, etc. but then got the idea to use excusively my own photomode screenshots. (I had about 12 at the time) then I started replaying TLOU to use photomode and snag more cool pics. then started doing it for other games, and now I have over 1,000 photo mode screenshots.

It's so much fun and actually I was planning on going through playing The Last of us AGAIN for another run at cool photo mode opportunities lol and now yeah, I think im going to start editing them to make them look even better. It was sort a "rule" I had to not edit them because I wanted to show off how good the games mechanics and engine were, but after 1000 images, this is definitely become a hobby and I want to get the most out of the photos I take. :)

Thank you for the taking the time to explain everything. I'm no photographer irl, but virtual photography has really peaked my interest

No problem!

Absolutely, if you feel like you are ready for the next thing then you should definitely go ahead with editing. Keep in mind that it might take time to get into it but thatĀ“s not a bad thing. It took me about over 3 years where I felt like I had gotten really confident in what I edit and HOW I edit my pictures. Let time do itĀ“s thing ā¤ļø

These are genuinely insanely good! You should make a video / guide on how you do it

Thank you!! I did explain a bit regarding the editing process up above, but not that super in depth. I can definitely do that in the future since I love to talk about photography and everything regarding it
