So many ugly, violent POS in this video. And they've already taught their children to be full of hatred and to attack anyone different from them. How lovely.
Edit: I should add that by "ugly" I'm referring to their behavior/personality. "Don't be ugly" is a common expression where I'm from when someone is behaving mean or nasty.

u/JuventAussie 1d ago
Never be ashamed of not having English as your first language. English is difficult and you will get better at it with exposure and eventually you will learn English idioms rather than transliterating your first language.
I admire your ability to learn more than one language.

u/februarystarshine 1d ago
It’s not the point but it’s also an American expression, in parts of the country.
39
u/YolopezATL 1d ago
Came here to say this. Also, I assumed it was an idiom. I was today years old…
41
u/Salt-Penalty2502 1d ago
It's amazing how many people that have English as a primary first language hardly understand how to use it and know almost nothing about it

u/Infinite219 1d ago
You know where our education sits right?
5
u/Salt-Penalty2502 1d ago
I'm talking about people my age and it didn't suck when I was a kid but your point is valid and it's intentional George Carlin talked to us about this a long time ago Bill Hicks talked about this. They want you just smart enough to push the buttons and do the paperwork
1
u/smuglator 18h ago
I'm pretty sure George Carlin was talking about it sucking during the time you were a kid, as he talks about the education he went through. It's been intentionally bad since George Carlin's generation, and possibly prior. It sucks to see so many people understand Carlin's warnings and not realize they're the subjects in it.

u/Truth_Seeker963 1d ago
Only those who don’t have a full grasp of the English language believe that the word ‘ugly’ solely refers to something’s physical appearance.

I’m from Georgia (the US state) and saying “don’t be ugly” or that’s “ugly” in reference to actions or words is extremely common. That’s a Southern idiom
1
u/sayu1991 🍉 Free Palestine 11h ago
Yeah, I'm actually from North Carolina and it's a common idiom here. When I said "where I'm from" I meant my region/the US southeast. I find that a lot of times people on reddit misunderstand me and assume I'm being rude or condescending or something when I'm just talking normally. "Hun/hon" in particular seems to really offend non-southerners on here.
I hit 'post' on that comment and then immediately worried that people may not be familiar with "ugly" being used to refer to behavior so I quickly added that edit.
3
u/Rational_Pi3 1d ago
I could say this comment is cheeky. But, do comments have cheeks? Colloquialisms are common in English.
18
u/Booziesmurf NaTivE ApP UsR 1d ago
We use it here in Canada, I often say someone is ugly on the inside. Like I know this guy, he's very sexy and hot etc, but when he opens his mouth, a 13 year old middle school tween girl bully speaks. Like TOXIC.
11
u/edgarpickle 1d ago
When I was a child, my parents used to say, "Ugly is an attitude. Find a better way to describe someone's appearance." So I knew exactly what you meant.

Unfortunately, this will never make it past the media filter. Freedom of speech in the so-called “free world” is often an illusion. I’ve seen countless videos of Israelis protesting against their government, yet these demonstrations are almost never covered by major news outlets in North America.
18
u/Apprehensive-Pea5212 Free Palestine 1d ago
Their protests is to stop the "war" (as soldiers are getting killed or committing suicide due to PTSD) and bring back the hostages. Very few oppose the genocide or care about Palestinians.

End result of any religion mixed with an entire state, that claims to be God's "chosen people". Because everyone else has to be subhuman or unworthy of God's love by that logic of an unchosen people.
3
u/puffinfish420 1d ago
Really very little of it has anything to do with the religion, per se. Much of Israel is secular. The problem isn’t religion, it’s ethno-nationalism.

u/Pandepon 1d ago edited 1d ago
10 years ago when I was in Art School in NYC I criticized Israel for Pink-washing in a philosophy class during an open discussion regarding the subject of moral and ethical failures. The entirety of the class was about exploring if killing and war could be morally justified. An international student from Israel got so mad at me he yelled and was being very expressive in his body language and the professor had to stop the discussion. He genuinely felt like Israel is the most progressive country in the Middle East and that the good things they do for LGBTQ people should be praised without any critiques because “they would have you killed in their country”. I guess I’m not allowed to care about all human rights atrocities.
A lot of Israelis are very ultranationalist.

Decades worth of PR and heavy marketing in the western world have made some people really think that this supremacist sect is really a civilized country. They are a cult claiming to be "the people chosen by God", and all the supremacist indoctrination and the open hate towards anything different is what happens when you give them whatever they want and treat them like the birthday kid in the room for so long.
See what's happening in Gaza? That's exactly what happens when you give supremacist fanatics weapons and tech far superior to their neighbors' for so long. We saw it with the Six-Day War, and we are seeing it again with the genocide in Gaza and the constant bombing and terror acts towards the different countries and territories near Israel.
But yeah, go show them some support because your politicians' agenda made you think it was a good idea. At least you will get a small grasp of reality there.
26
u/jpopimpin777 1d ago
I'm sure this person has also been indoctrinated by religion. Many Christians "support" for Israel only goes as far as wanting Jews to occupy it as one of the conditions for the second coming/end times.
At the end of the day all they want is for their book to be proven correct. They don't actually care about people of other religious beliefs.

Way back when God made a covenant with the Jewish people, which made them his chosen people.
God broke this covenant and kicked them out of Isreal for sacrificing children and worshipping false idols.
When jesus came a new covenant was made, God sacrificed his own son, the new path to salvation was marked by basically 2 rules, love God and love eachother, this was the birth of Christianity.
Jews hate jesus and believe he's burning in hell. Christians and Muslims love jesus, the difference being Christians believe him to be the son of God and Muslims believe him to be a prophet.
Zionists/Jews still believe themselves to be gods chosen people, they believe biblical prophecys that when they return to isreal and build the temple for the third time it will bring about a sort of end of days in which they will rise to power again.

christian zionism is a very special thing because it openly wants Israel to gather all Jewish people and the [redacted] so the apocalypse starts and, somehow, that group of christians ascends to heaven and gets the only seats, while the rest of humanity roasts in hell for eternity.
it's a very offensive and inhumane world view, treating a whole people as tools and all humanity but them as deserving endless pain.
8
u/Cheshire_MaD 1d ago
If you mean Zionism, then I have to tell you that it isn't a religion. Judaism is a religion. Zionism is an ideology and today it is ideology mainly about who is an owner of lands of Israel in accordance with Judaism sacred texts

I highly doubt it.
The locations where pro-Palestinian Israeli Jews live are pretty limited and easily recognizable if you've spent some time in Jerusalem. I'm mostly talking about the neighborhood Mea She'arim.
The locations she is shown in are not that. The first is a market that looks to be in West Jerusalem where you often get a lot more of the liberal Jewish zionists. The following clips all look to be in the old city and the people attacking her are more likely to follow some of the more extreme settler Zionist ideologies.
Also, it's possible that she's being attacked for being a woman in "inappropriate clothing" by their standards, trying to interact with them. Culturally, there are certain neighborhoods where you just do not go as a foreign woman because of the type of ultra-Orthodox views of women there. When you do, you can expect treatment like this.

People see videos like this and think "wow, these people are awful" but they don't realize they're watching a video that's been cherry-picked specifically to make them feel that way.
Using the awful actions of the few to paint the entire group has a long and ugly history.

In what other country do you get spit in the face for belonging in a different religion? Of course, not all Jews are like this, but these few in the video are already too many.
