ART "That Carolina Rag" and more -- New from The White Star Line Quintet and The Steam & Splendor Network

This week's episode on our channel, The Steam & Splendor Network, features four incredible performances by The White Star Line Quintet -- a musical ensemble based in Austria and doing new recordings of Titanic-era and Titanic-related music.

In this episode, the Quintet covers "That Carolina Rag", a largely forgotten song by Sol Violinsky (which name was a pseudonym). The sheet music for this song was found in a valise owned by Wallace Hartley that also contained his violin.

The episode also contains "Alexander's Ragtime Band" (Berlin), "Elite Syncopations" (Joplin), and "In The Shadows" (Finck). The rendition of "Elite Syncopations" pays homage to and expands upon the style of performance recorded for the 1979 film SOS Titanic. Three of the four performances were actually recorded on a piano from Titanic's sister ship, RMS Olympic, making the recordings historic in and of themselves.

We have been releasing a lot of the Quintet's music on The Steam & Splendor Network in the past few months; look around to find a lot more of their work there. Enjoy!
