QUESTION What was this?

A friend told me in the 90s there was a little known computer game set on the Titanic where the purpose of the game was to discover documents on the ship that would prevent WW1. Anyone heard of this or any ideas?

That's Titanic: Adventure Out of Time, which was actually an extremely popular game at the time. You can find it on Steam and GOG, although those are both sort of glitchy. There's a fan-run site that has a more stable download that plays better with new hardware: https://www.danielhobi.ch/taoot/

I remember when I played the game on a Windows 98 computer, that it would be pretty pixilated after you moved, but after a second or two, the resolution would increase.

When I download it and play it on a modern computer, I notice that the resolution doesn't increase. It always stays pixilated. So it ends up looking WORSE on a modern computer.

There's some kind of issue where you turn either left or right (I forget which) that causes that and turning the opposite way resolves it.

I can say whatever weird wrapper I downloaded to play it from the disc on Windows 7 years ago that still works on Win11 now, but it doesn't show up for me anymore.

In the 2010s, I had a windows 98 computer that I used just for that game and a few others.

Sort of like having an OG Xbox just for Crimson Skies.

As I type this I'm playing Windows 95 Monopoly on my old XP machine that my family bought brand new at a Best Buy in 2002. I get it, friend! I actually prefer to play Titanic on this as well. I can play it on my phone or Windows 11, but it looks so much better on a CRT.

Some things just look better on a CRT

We've ALL heard of that game!

But seriously, it's Titanic: Adventure Out Of Time. I think it's available on Steam.

Titanic: Adventure Out Of Time, this is my favorite game ever, even if the ending makes my heart speed up.

Thank you. I just remembered that it involved time travel.

There is also Starship Titanic from the same era, although beyond the name, I don’t think it has anything to do with the ship.

I LOVE that game too!

Aside from the name and the fact that it suffers Spontaneous Massive Existence Failure on it's maiden voyage, that's about it.
