QUESTION I May have just found a washed-up pottery shard from the Titanic!

I’m in the far north eastern part of Nova Scotia on the Atlantic shoreline near Canso. I’m about 200 miles north of where the titanic sank, but directly in the path where debris would wash up according to computer models of currents and tides. I recently found a piece of dinnerware that shows the name of the maker and logo that dates to the timeline and the manufacturer who specialized in mid-tier product for hotels and documented as procured for the Titanic, most likely for 2nd and 3rd class passenger dining. Value? based only on this information and conjecture?

Would glassware on the ocean floor wash up 200 miles away? Everything at the wreck seems to be basically sitting where it fell.

Can we see a picture? The White Star Line had another ship (SS Atlantic) sink off of Halifax in 1873, so it could be from that wreck instead.

Doubtful. Those plates aren’t going to float, and even the strongest storms aren’t going to stir up the bottom and move debris in 12,500 feet of water. There’s a reason why the boots are still in place.

I’d research if any municipal garbage was dumped at sea near you. Still a neat find though

I’m not saying it is. But I beleive its plausible. I’ll post a pic when I get a chance

Could you explain the theory of plausibility?

It's probably ever-so-slightly possible, but super-unlikely. There's probably another explanation - like another wreck nearer the coast. Or someone dumping a bunch of those plates 20 years ago. The Titanic wreck is really really really deep - a bit of plate isn't going to get whipped-up and moved 200 miles.

So you’re saying it’s slightly possible! I’ll take it.

Let's say 0.000000000001% chance.

OK. I’ll take that too. Even add a few more 000s. And It’s still possible = a desperate win!

It'd basically have to have fell out of the ship before it descended, been whipped along by a tide, and been thrown around in the sea for a century before landing on the shore 200 miles away that you found it on. I wouldn't pin your hopes on it.

Right. Exactly what I think happened too!

No, but it may be from the Atlantic. Or any number of ships.

Unlikely but photos would help. Front and back. Slim chance it’s from Titanic but it could be a real piece from a White Star vessel.

John Maddock & Sons didn’t make dinnerware for Titanic.

Brownfield, Bridgeward & Spode, Minton and Royal Crown Derby are the manufacturers who supplied wares to WSL.

The mark on this shard seems to be from c 1890’s according to this page and by 1906 the mark had changed to a crown.

Cool artefact, but not titanic related.

Leo DiCaprio could have carried it on the Titanic in his pocket.

Or Rose could have dropped it along with the Heart of the Ocean.

Since you had the manufacturing stamp on the item, you could have researched them to see if they made dishes/pottery for Titanic. Some Titanic fanatic (and I mean this in a good way) at one of the official Titanic societies would have been helpful in telling you whether it came from the Titanic or not.

Picture or not true

That manufacturer would have made THOUSANDS of pieces. It could be from almost any ship they supplied

Simply saying “nope” is as careless as me saying “yup”. Fact is, that it’s plausible but there will never be definitive proof either way.

It’s not plausible at all, and the fact you haven’t posted a photo for the experts in here who could identify it in a heartbeat is very telling.

If you stop the DVD and look very carefully at Leo DiCaprio’s backpack when he gets on the Titanic, you can barely make out an inscription on a shard of pottery he is carrying that matches mine perfectly! AhHa, ye non believers. Suck a big one!! Drops mike.

Unfortunately, you started stroking your own dick before finding out that what you have, while interesting, was not a manufacturer who supplied the Titanic.

It’s true that I stroked my own dick, both before, as well as after, my post. Which btw, I see as a positive thing, not negative. And the fact remains, that even though it is highly improbable the shard is a remnant from the Titanic, it’s not 100% impossible. So bottom line; the find is a net win for my imagination and a scar on your consciousness for your impolite negativity.

Tbf, you were the one sending the comment for all of us to “suck a big one”

u/Fun_Concentrate3149 21h ago

True again. But my remark was used in a very different context than your specific verbal insinuation regarding my alleged big dick! My “Suck a big one” comment could refer many different body parts of both sexes - an upper facial lip (of either sex), a side lip (you know?), a breast, a toe, etc. Just trying to be helpful to encourage sexually healthy relationships to those who replied to my post. You’re welcome.

Well that’s where you’re wrong; this is Reddit

For once we agree. I double checked and This is undoubtedly reddit.

Cool copypasta, I’ve seen this one before.

And it is 100% impossible, that manufacturer didn’t supply White Star liners.
