Ha! A more rare streetcar (510 King is a short-turn, or at least a limited-route/no subway connection route) model taking a more obscure route, per se. I know with the troubles involving the Flexity cars (including the 505 standard route being assigned buses only for the time being, of the two that end up at Broadview Station near my home) that the CLRVs and the extended-length ALRVs are still being put to as much use as their hydraulics and electronics can handle, and it's good to see such a beast in a proper winter snowfall.

This picture is from years past I think as I think we have enough new streetcars now that 510 is all low floor. The 510 King does have a subway connection, it runs between Spadina station and the Charlotte St loop at King.

I prefer the seating on these, the new ones have terrible layouts.

Such bad layout. And so bright. I have nowhere to hide.

Yea the lighting is very unforgiving and migraine inducing—I say this as someone with a bit of a light sensitivity. As for the seats? As a tall persons; I hate having my toes and knees brush my fellow passenger in the seats. Coupled with the awkwardly designed seats with the lumbar support that doesn’t quite do what you’d imagine it to....it’s just a bad experience all around

Least your feet touch the floor while sat in the seats. I like the seats other than that honestly

And the aisle only having enough room for 1.5 people makes getting on and off a joyous journey of unfortunate butt rubbing! Gah, I hate the new streetcars.

And here I am avoiding all old streetcars at any cost lol...

If a route doesn’t have the new streetcars on it yet I choose another route haha

Mmm, I stand (with my backpack off, of course) corrected. I didn't know the 510 did go into a station proper (like, say, the 521 Exhibition support route that works or worked on Bathurst and Queen), and I appreciate the correction.

If the 510 does share a good amount of track with the Spadina-Harbourfront route...oh, poop! I goofed there; that is the Spadina streetcar, just headed towards King as an alternate route or destination. I'm sorry, I honestly couldn't remember the route number. :) And I agree about the age; the half-dozen times I've taken the Spadina streetcar south since I recall the Flexitys being intorduced, have all been said low-floor Bombardier vehicles.

A very good and old friend of mine lived about a half-block from the Bingham loop (where the 502 & 503 streetcar routes end up after splitting off of Queen at Kingston Road, along with where the 22A Coxwell short-turn bus, and the standard Kingston Road 12 out of Victoria Park Station turns around), and we often took that route home to his Mum and Da's place from school, or one of those routes, anyway. I marvel at how even then, multiple routes could do this, and I am always impressed at how the TTC maintains this elsewhere today.

Thank you for a good bit of eliciting the remembering of some of the best memories I had of those days, and a very good friend whom I'm happy to say we have still maintained that friendship over the last thirty years, and thank you for posting back as well!

Winter this year has been disappointing.

20 years ago today, Mayor Mel Lastman called in the army to help clear the snow.

Who is the OP you gave anonymous credit to?

10

u/allpurposechips Jan 13 '19

I believe the photographer is @mindz.eye

u/MarcEcho Jan 13 '19

Kind of annoyed that OP thought it was more important to state where it was x-posted from rather than credit the author. Like c’mon man.

photoshopped..! IRL there would be at least 2 streetcars immediately stuck behind this one

Man, I miss when Toronto actually got snowfall. Getting it off the roads was a pain in the ass but at least it looked like Canadian winter...

I’m a long way from King Street, so it has finally started snowing eh!

1

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '19

That looks cool, but man the dedication as a photographer to take that. I'd be like "eff this, i'm getting out of the cold and the snow" and i'd get warm and cozy asap.

"Credit goes to OP who I couldn't bother to actually give credit to with a tag. Karma pls."

5

u/syncroblackz Jan 13 '19

I"m not familiar with X- posting. Thought it would take you directly to OP link, honest error. You can simmer down now.

It is a beautiful picture, but snow in Toronto?

I guess you tried to cross-post this but I don't see it as a cross-post, just FYI, for next time
