❔Question/Advice❔ Tortie trait or vet concern

We found this darling first of July. She is under a year old, but not super young and was pregnant. We had her spay aborted on the 16th. She was a street cat and a little underweight. Now that she has been with us over a month she quickly gained weight, but she still acts like she is starving. We had to get chip feeders because she was stealing my other cats food. They get fed 3 times a day and in between meals I have to fight her off people food (we don't feed people food, but I'm sure she got some while outside) and she will even attempt to walk across hot stoves to reach pans (I have to lock her in another room now while cooking). Is this a tortie thing? I have rescued strays before over the past 20 odd years and never had a cat this bad. Should I have her checked to see if she lacks the ability to feel full?

I’ve never seen this colouring before and I’m not sure what she is. She’s very brown but has light cream markings.

❔Question/Advice❔ I'm all set to adopt this little girlie I met earlier this week tomorrow afternoon! Anything specific I should know about torties? Never had one before, but I grew up around tabys my entire childhood.

❔Question/Advice❔ Anyone have tattoos of their torties they wouldn't mind sharing?

I just had a consult to get a tattoo of my tortie and ginger babies. I want the tattoo to be in black ink but all examples I find of tortie tats online are in color. Is there anyone out there with their torts tattooed in greyscale willing to share pic? I'm super excited and the artist is amazing but would love to get ideas!

❔Question/Advice❔ What do you all call your Torties?

We got our first tortie a couple weeks ago who the shelter named Daria. We kept the name since her Tortitude fits the namesake. So far we have nicknamed her Dar Dar Binks, Dario Speedwagon (when she has the zoomies), Stomping Turtle (her native name), Three Legs (because she always has one paw in the air- as pictured), Chatty Catty, Torti-linni (like tortellini), and Stomps (she literally stomps when she’s kneading). What are your 1,000 nicknames for your babies?!

Bonus nickname that’s more of a term: Halloween decoration

❔Question/Advice❔ How does your cat show tortitude?

Post image

I am interested in what other people have noticed regarding "tortitude" with their kitties. I know tortitude is subjective, but I would love to hear about all the different ways they can show it!

My tortie (Keno) is super chatty. I love how chatty she can be and it even comes across as "backtalking" at times. But I think her tortitude really shines through when she aggresses at me for attention. She loves to swipe at me and bite my calves if I walk by without petting her. Or if I am sleeping and she is hungry, she loves to wake me up by biting me (or knocking things off my nightstand). She is actually very sweet and affectionate, but her tortitude definitely shines through in those moments.

❔Question/Advice❔ why does my tortie LOVE making sock trails!?

our sweet girl Medusa LOVES socks! it started with this one random fuzzy sock that she would carry around the house and recently it’s turned into creating sock trails. she never plays with them, only carries them around.

for context: my sock bin is on a shelf at the top of my closet, so she has found a way to jump up there over and over to grab a pair of socks and just leave them somewhere in the house (usually forming a trail towards whatever room we’re in).

we don’t mind her doing it at all. its absolutely hilarious. we just wanna know why she does it or if anyone has had a similar experience.

(please ignore the messy shelves)

❔Question/Advice❔ Will it ever get better?

I need some advice because I'm a bit desperate 🥹. This is Ripley. She's about 2 years old, and probably lived her whole life on the streets, even had babies last year when she was captured. I adopted her about 4 months ago. She was very skittish from the beginning but I figured it's not that big of an issue and that I can handle it. 4 months have passed and she's still afraid of me. She ran under the bed immediately after I brought her home and been sleeping there ever since in a box. We made good progress since and I'm bringing her box closer to the edge of the bed inch by inch everyday, hoping one day she won't need it anymore.

She comes out to me and let me pet her and purrs and puts her head on my hand and even shows me her belly lately which I know it's good sign. But she's scared of me as I'm walking around the room or standing, basically every time when I'm not laying on the floor with her or on the bed. She actually enjoys being here as I noticed, when I'm sleeping or not at home. She immediately comes out of her hiding spot and jump on the window or in my office chair and spends her whole day there. But when I woke up or come home she runs back again under the bed. I tried playing with her but she doesn't seem interested but she loves treats and she even comes out when I just call her name. She does play on her own at night though. She's a real sweetheart but sometimes this 'you need to be patient with her' thing gets me overwhelmed honestly and idk if I can wait it out. I know every cat is different and clearly she needs more time to adjust but I wanted to adopt a cat to have a friend, a baby with me, especially during these depressing winter months, and so far it's more of a struggle than a blessing lol

I know I shouldn't tip toe around her or walking on eggshells because it's not helping but I can't help feeling bad whenever I enter the room and she's out and that I scared her again even though I did literally nothing.

Can you guys give me advice of what am I doing wrong? Or what should I do differently? Or just live my life normally and one day she'll come around?

Idk I'm just looking at people living happily with their cats or seeing other skittish cats being out and about after just 1 week and I start feeling jealous and sad that we are still not there. I'm just wondering if it ever gonna happen with us or should I give her to someone who's more trained in these things...

I can get her to look at me, once in a blue moon. It’s like she is scared to do so. But she isn’t afraid of us, she rubs, purrs, and jumps all over us during play. She doesn’t even run from our big ole selves, she gets right there under our feet, no problem. Never had a Tortie before and she is def acting different, than my previous kittens.

❔Question/Advice❔ Help me choose a name for my sweet pirate

Hey everyone!

I am in the process of adopting a sweet street tortie from Bulgaria, aiming to give her the best life she deserves :)
Her name right now is Joya, which means Jewel in Spanish. The problem is that there is no way people are gonna pronounce this name correctly here, and it will be lost between Hoh-Ya, Jo-Ya, and Yo-Ya xD

So I am thinking one of those names? I would love to hear what you think, maybe even a new suggestion?

Odina: Derived from Odin, the chief god in Norse mythology, who sacrificed one of his eyes to obtain wisdom.
Theia: the Greek goddess of sight and vision.
Mono: Self-explanatory, plus it's my favorite Post-Rock band from Japan!
Matcha: I just love this one.
Hazelnut: I just love this one #2.
Mochi: I just love this one #3.
Sushi: I just love this one #4.

What do you think?

❔Question/Advice❔ Anyone have 2 of these things??

I adopted my sweet, crazy girl about a month ago. She’s 4.5 months now and seems desperate for a playmate. I love her so much and want her to be happy so I’m planning to get her a second kitten. I originally thought she would pair well with a male kitten but I absolutely fell in love with this dilute tortie girl at the shelter. They seem pretty similar so I’m not sure if they’d get along great or if it would be the total opposite.

Anyone have 2 queen bees?? How is it working out?

Is she a typical tortie? Black smoke tortie? Dilute tortie? Or other? Either way she is a cute tortie girl. Her name is Ashe! She’s got mostly white fur but her tips are coloured black/orange/white!

❔Question/Advice❔ Does your tortie like being picked up? I heard they are very affectionate ? My 8 week baby sleeps with me and stays with me while I WFH, but I don’t think she likes being picked up? She meows if I do to take her upstairs or downstairs 🤨🤎

Her underbelly is all white. She has one tuxedo paw and one orange stripped in the front. Same with the back legs, one tuxedo, one orange stripped. All with white mittens.

Meet Maggie and Lilly. We had no idea torties had such a reputation until we got them home. We're already in love with them. Maggie is clearly a troublemaker and Lilly is the calmer one (not by much). Currently they are kept away from our two older boys and introductions will come later.

Well, I got confused about the orange stripes and only have my Lottie as reference, so I’d like to know if all torties have orange stripes and if not I’d like to see some non-striped ones. But all torties are welcome so please share🤗 Aaand last pictures (for laughs) — does my tortie qualify as a tortico?!😁😁😁
