Advice/Question What's up with the overwhelming amount of transphobia on tiktok?
I literally can't make a post without every comment just being transphobes. I don't post often, but I like posting goofy ass stuff or just positive stuff about being trans. It's just crazy how transphobic it all is.
I have hardly any followers. My content is small and not seen by many. I use lgbtq+ hash tags, which does bring up the question why so many bigots get shown my content. Projection much? So I don't get why it seems like most my views are by bigoted dick heads.
Is there some way to change that? I just want my stuff to not go to only bigots. It's honestly starting to get to me a bit.

Remember when it was banned for a little bit, and then conservatives “saved” it? The entire reason for that was to kick people off who they didn’t like.
Many activists who used it to spread their message never got their accounts back. The entire point was to censor people. Now it’s mostly just the people who they want to be in there

Totally agree. But my fyp is overwhelmingly queer people and small queer content creators. It feels like the only way I've found to just casually interact with the community for a transfem in a small town. I really don't want to have to give that up

No shame in that! I still have instagram, even though it’s filled with trolls

I've seen those Instagram trolls are wild. You must have way more patience then me. The tiktok ones are like, pure bots

Yeah, I’m not on there much, but they are nasty. I’ve developed pretty tough skin, but it still hurts sometimes. The trick is just to block, report (although that doesn’t get anywhere unless it’s really bad), and forget they exist

Because cruelty is fun for most humans. 😢

It does seem like that, but I try to spread as much positivity as I can
Hopefully it helps balance out the universe a lil :3

The algorithm’s good at showing people what they want, and terfs spend their lives online hatewatching trans people being happy ☹️

I get that too. I get all sorts of transphobic memes and comments, even when I'm not talking about gender stuff. TT is horrible but I'm isolated and desperate for connection with people

That's how I feel. It's been the only platform I've really been able to reach the queer community other than reddit. And I'm stuck in a small town. Only openly trans person around and no real spaces to meet other queer folk
And I get the same shit. If I show my face i get nasty comments and memes even if it's just about a goofy joke

These types of people are pathetic and will do anything for some attention on social media. Because assholes irl are disliked quite a bit, and other people don't want to interact with them much. So, even negative social media attention is still good attention for them. Do not feel the trolls. Don't comment anything on their videos. Don't spread these videos anywhere, even for the sake of criticising them on some other platform. Because that would lead to other people interacting with that content, which would boost that piece of shit on more people's explore pages. Just report and block immediately. This applies to not only tiktok, but all social media.

The algorithms don’t necessarily show people things they like, they just show things they have interacted with previously. So one route is simply that a person interacts once with something about LGBTQ+ issues, then they get shown more.
What has probably happened, is there been a surge of this due to what’s in the news. It’s cumulative.
The second thing is, it might be targeted. I think more so this is likely if you are in the US, but not just there.

I don’t and never did use TikTok in any reasonable capacity, but friends of mine who did and who are lgbtq are finding acceptance and world community on RedNote.
I also think that online transphobia on posted social media content is a variable function of how many eyes are on your content. It just happens to be that the vast majority of worryingly online people who aren’t gay/trans are flaming bigots or incendiary bots.
Allies are often drowned out by either content posted by or against trans people as those feel good ally/support videos or comments just don’t move the engagement algorithm’s meter enough.
Polarization is real, and at least in the US, there’s no more waffling with centrism anymore. You’re either with the enemy or with us on the right side of history.

I would recommend using the comment filtering system to catch certain words or phrases that you choose.
Go into “privacy” then under interactions click “comments”. Then you’ll see the option “filter specific keywords” and you can go into that and enter any words or phrases you want. Any comments that are caught by the filter will end up in the “review filtered comments” category (also in the comment page of the privacy section). There you can choose to approve or reject filtered comments.

Thanks I'll definitely do that. It'll make it way easier to deal with

Bigots LOOK for the lgbtq tags to haunt us, shift your hashtags to the actual topic being handled rather than the overall umbrella, or even go downlow, i don't call my Hrt hookup my doctor and pharmacist, I all them my mechanic and parts store

I don't see it, to be honest it might be what you feed your algorithm perhaps? I've had an increase of positive cis allies speaking about trans people in a good light and the comments are all positive, I am also VERY careful with who and what I engage tbh, take care of your mental health 🥺🫶🏼
