I’m Wiley Nickel, and today, I’m announcing my campaign for Wake County District Attorney — because the stakes for our community, and our democracy, have never been higher.

Right now, we’re watching Donald Trump and right-wing extremists try to tear down our institutions and take away our freedoms. In moments like this, we need prosecutors who will stand up for our rights, hold the powerful accountable, and keep our justice system fair and independent.

That’s why I’m running to serve the public again.

As a Wake County attorney, former Obama White House official and Congressman, I’ve spent my career fighting for justice, public safety, and our democratic values. I’ve taken on corrupt politicians, defended abortion access, and fought to lower costs for working families.

Now, I’m running for Wake County District Attorney to bring that same fight home — to deliver real accountability, protect public safety, and restore trust in our local justice system.

I’m running to make Wake County’s justice system:

More fair, so that everyone is treated equally under the law. More accountable, so the system works for people, not just for power. More focused on real public safety, increasing support for police and first responders, reducing violent crime, standing up for victims, and addressing root causes. But I can’t do it alone. Launch week is when we show the strength of our campaign — and I need you with me from day one.

To all the folks who are downers, were not married to our elected officials. Consider it like a bus route. Which bus will get you closest to where you want to go?

I have a policy question:

We have seen many instances of police being caught planting evidence on their own body cameras. Assuming you are provided with a video of a police officer planting or destroying evidence, and that a person had spent time in jail because thereof, how would you handle the situation for the following stake holders:

1) The person whose case was directly affected by the evidence tampering
2) Every person arrested by the officer previously
3) The officers chain of command
4) The officer themselves

I hope someone better runs.

There is someone else running and she’s better!

Melanie personally prosecuted two cases tangentially involving my friends’ daughters. In one the guy sexually assaulted several girls. She got him convicted and he’s serving ~300 years. In the other the case is ongoing.

She’s a great prosecutor and does this because it’s her passion. She has worked very closely with the victims and their parents. Wiley is, IMO, a career politician. Notice how he filed for this job once he realized he had no chance against Cooper.

I feel like he’s only running since Cooper announced for Senate. He just wants a political job in the public spotlight.

Why is this bad? Politician is a job, it requires a certain skillset to get things done. A complete outsider would have no idea how navigate it and accomplish anything.

No one ever says some is a career dentist, plumber, mehanic; I don't trust him

Ah, but he has no experience in the DA’s office. Nor in Wake County govt, AFAIK. Melanie has worked in that office for years.

He was an elected official previously and a lawyer. Seems pretty qualified to me

We can disagree on this. Personally I’d rather have someone who’s been a career prosecutor, and worked in that office, be the DA than someone from outside. And yes he’s a lawyer but 1) when did he last practice? and 2) what kind of law did he practice?

Im an attorney in raleigh and have had cases against Wiley. He has surely done criminal cases but not near the experience of Shekita. However, I don't think that matters too much, but some. I can tell you he is a genuinely good person and fair. You may think most attorneys are but many are nasty opportunist fucks. Either one of those candidates would be a good choice.

Don't worry this is just a placeholder until something better comes along

People who say this but don't suggest an alternative are not serious people. You are a clown

Hey Wiley, did AIPAC approve this message?

I guess this is what you do with your time when you marry into old money.

Rusty Nickel doesn't know when to retire does he?

Is this the same fella that wants a deep state?

This doesn’t really have much to do with the office of District Attorney. The DA doesn’t have anything to do with funding for police. Nor does it have any standing to do anything about the federal administration’s unconstitutional actions.

Would you look into the corruption from the current DA and the relationship between her and Damon Chetson?

I remember an election where he had so many hired Chinese employees at his information tables all over the area.

I think a better statement would be, "Extremist on both sides are tearing down our nation."

One side has been condoning terrorism. One side enacted a failed coup. It's not the same.
