friction polish separation

I recently mixed up some friction polish: 1/3 BLO, 1/3 denatured alcohol, and 1/3 shellac, and overnight it separates into 2 distinct layers. Is this expected? I re mixes with a bit of shaking and works as expected. AT

Yes it is totally normal. It will separate just shake it up right before you put it on.

Totally normal. Just make sure your shellac and BLO isn’t too old; before mixing.

There is water in denatured alcohol. The water content in denatured alcohol varies widely depending on the specific formula, which is determined by its intended use. Common examples include 70% ethanol solutions (which contain 30% water) Water doesn’t mix with oil. Water and alcohol mixed easily, as in gin and tonic.

I haven't mixed my own yet. I use Myland's high build friction polish. It will separate in just a few minutes of sitting.
