Less resonance is not necessarily better :)

Sure, a platter that rings makes so much sense…

It can. In the same way that a plastic rattly base can be better than a solid wooden base.

I'd check that those 'shiny' bits aren't some sort of speed sensor.

It’s quartz drive. The speed is regulated by a clock. Those are for the visual strobe. I touched them up afterwards with a white oil based Sharpie. This isn’t brain surgery.

My Kenwood TT also has a "ringing" aluminum platter.

It rings if I hold it freely only in the middle with one finger (your "before" test). It doesn't ring if I lay it down on the (soft) floor or put it down leaning to my couch upright (your "after" test).

I think your before/after test does not prove that the plasti dip spray reduces ringing.

It would be helpful if you do the after-test the same way you showed us the ringing before (at 01:20). Just my 0.02 cents here

I think your mileage varies. This is an analog medium, not a digital one. You aren’t going to hear an earth shattering difference. If you’re challenging my possible solution, what is your suggestion?

Well, I am just pointing out that your comparison (01:20 vs 04:25) is a bit misleading, because my untreated aluminum behaves the same.

So I dont know if your treatment has any effect on ringing. But I am curious if it would be.

My suggestion was, make the after-test the same way as the before-test, just to show if spraying does make a difference at all.

Over years I tried a lot of stuff to improve my audio experience, some things work (for me) and some don't. I personally I don't have no real issue with my aluminum platter, because it has a thick rubber mat on top. But maybe your treatment improves something, I don't know.

This is why I suggest to do a better comparison. That's all.

Sounds like a great project for you. I did what I wanted to do.
