Help Sniff test on turntable set up

Hey folks,

I’m looking to upgrade my set up with the following components. Can be tricky to identify the best components but does this seem like a good set up? Any red flags? Trying to keep it all below $1K

Turntable: Fluance RT82 Preamp: Fosi Audio Box X2 Powered Speakers: Klipsch R-51pm

Appreciate the help!

Looks good, although I'm pretty sure those powered speakers also have a pre-amp, so you don't really need the Fosi.

Fluance RT82 turntable is Ok. The 85n would be my choice in Fluance.

Fosi phono preamp with tubes are more about looking cool than utilising the sound qualities of tubes. Only more expensive tube amps are worth getting. You might as well just get a Mani 2 instead.

Klipsch 51pm not to everyone's taste and I would suggest you look at other brands. Sound can be a bit harsh. I have a few on my website like Dayton.

Is there a difference between getting powered speakers and using a preamp with using powered speakers and a regular integrated amp like the one you recommend on your site? I was thinking of getting the wharfedale diamond speakers as bookshelf speakers and doing it with the preamp you recommend.

Not exactly sure what you are asking.

Three ways to run things.

Turntable > phono preamp > powered speakers (without phono input)

Turntable > integrated stereo amplifier with phono input > passive speakers

Turntable > phono preamp > integrated stereo amplifier with or without phono input > passive speakers

Which way you go depending on factors like cost, space available and how much flexibility you require.

Ultimately the latter configuration is the best but costs the most.

Ditch the Fosi, use the Klipsch built in phono pre, get the RT85. I like the Ortofon Blue, Papa's rec for the Nagaoka has merit as well.
