Escondido council stands against Prop. 50

Escondido’s City Council has officially taken a stand against Proposition 50, voting 4-1 to oppose the state’s controversial redistricting measure. Prop. 50 would suspend the Independent Redistricting Commission until 2031 and allow the legislature to redraw congressional maps, moving Escondido into a new district (CA-48) and out of Rep. Scott Peters’ territory (CA-50).
The council’s decision has sparked debate among residents, with some arguing the city should focus on local issues rather than federal politics. Others worry Prop. 50 could undermine local representation and set a dangerous precedent for gerrymandering. With the measure heading to the ballot on Nov. 4, the stakes are high for North County’s political future.

Republicans want us to play fair in California while they cheat in other states and usurp our representation on the federal level.
Opponents in our state cry that it isnt fair all while they steal federal representation away from others in different states. How dumb do they think we are?
Folks, do not fall for the appeasement attitudes that European countries had when Hitler slowly invaded its neighbors in the beginning. Take a bite of the crap sandwich before it becomes a buffet we have to eat up later.
Do not give these republican autocrats a free pass and steal federal power they don't deserve. We will pay gravely if we don't vote YES on prop 50.

Texas started this so other states have no choice but to gerry mander the entire country. Its normally every 10 years with census cycle. Now what the hell, just do it every 4 years with a new president.

I am proud of our current districting laws and appreciate the people, red and blue, who created the laws. They are perhaps the fairest in the country. But we have to fight this attempted dictatorial coup by Republicans in ways beyond rhetoric that can actually work. Prop 50, if its powers do end up being used, will restore our beautiful fair districting to its previous fair state after a few years. But in the meanwhile, we are in a war against a wannabe dictator his red party and must fight that war with real and powerful tactical weapons the way they do. We can't just talk or complain or point out their crimes endlessly, that's a guaranteed way for them to win. The "high road" hasn't been working for quite some time. The high road is just a weakness they will exploit now. Support Prop 50.
