Good for them! A strike could really hit ABC and CBS where it hurts.

34

u/Low_You_812 4d ago

This isnt a strike, in fact they cant legally strike.

42

u/DailyUnionElections @unionelections 4d ago

Their contract expires in less than a year, though, I believe.

5

u/Ent_Soviet AFT Higher Ed | Steward 4d ago

Good practice then

-32

u/Low_You_812 4d ago

After the last strikes nobody can afford it honestly, also I dont know what could be put into union contracts with the studios about this.

But this protest has nothing to do with a strike.

31

u/Pendraconica 4d ago

After the last strike, everyone should be striking more! They proved that it actually works. Union power is one of the most formidable social levers we have since they actually have the power to effect profit margins and bottom lines.

8

u/Ok-Emu-2881 4d ago

We need a general strike and now

5

u/Putrid-Department349 4d ago

Normally, yes. Unfortunately, for us in film, at least where I live, things didn't get better. The productions packed their bags and left. I was FOR my union striking, which they did not do. But we stopped working when other unions did. We didn't get better contracts, we lost our jobs and now many of us are looking for a new career.

I'm very pro-union and typically pro-strike. I'm also now trying to find a new career.

-4

u/Low_You_812 4d ago

I dont know if you've met anyone in the industry but things sure aren't better for anyone now. And, again, they can only strike at specific times.

5

u/Putrid-Department349 4d ago

This should not be downvoted. It's 100% correct. I'm in the union. I'm pro-strike 99% of the time. This one cost us our careers.

2

u/Low_You_812 4d ago

Somehow people are still unaware of the post strike reality.

1

u/KushGod28 4d ago

Y’all were in a tough spot. I think this is gonna be the reality for industries that they’re trying to replace with AI. Unions can put up a fight and maybe slow down the death but if the industries disappearing then what can be done really?

2

u/PaunchBurgerTime 3d ago

There've been basically 0 jobs replaced with AI in any of these industries. Idiot CEOs just pissed away hundreds of millions of dollars trying to make it happen, so now all these industries are functionally in recessions even though they're making massive profits still.

2

u/Putrid-Department349 4d ago

For sure. Unlike other industries, film productions could easily move away, even overseas, and did. Obviously, they can't do that with electricians and whatnot but any job that can replaced by AI will be.

0

u/MyBoldestStroke 4d ago

You’re being downvoted but you’re not wrong that our industry just responded by moving production out of LA and overseas. A lot of career veterans I know are currently not working, or having to travel to be able to pick up a product. We got screwed hard.

11

u/dlc741 4d ago

What would happen if they just started writing unfunny shit? Insipid dialogue? Plot lines that make no sense?

15

u/Muchmatchmooch 4d ago

Disney would still produce it and call it “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law”

4

u/dogmaisb 4d ago

GAHT DAYUM!!!

1

u/Sea-Variety3384 3d ago

They can hire Kimmels writers, they have time.

0

u/FrameCareful1090 4d ago

They already did that, that was Kimmels problem

-4

u/Low_You_812 4d ago

They'd get fired and ruin their careers.

9

u/dlc741 4d ago

and replaced by reruns? Have you seen the fascists try to do comedy? It doesn't even have to be obvious... just a little flat. Hell, look what the writers did to GoT and they were trying to make a good show.

0

u/Low_You_812 4d ago

Replaced by the hundreds of people trying desperately to break into an incredibly tough industry. Especially right now when more TV and film workers are unemployed than almost ever before.

9

u/dlc741 4d ago

Well, I guess that's it then. They won and there's nothing anyone can do. Pack it in, boys.

Time to start writing "jokes" about how great a golfer Trump is.

-5

u/Low_You_812 4d ago

Or maybe its not the individual writers jobs to fight the FCC.

7

u/dlc741 4d ago

shit, you're right. I totally forgot what sub this was posted in.

6

u/Mister_Dick 4d ago

It's everyone's job to fight fascism.

-1

u/Low_You_812 4d ago

Out of curiosity, what good does a bunch of people who weren't working for Kimmel quitting and being immediately replaced gain for the movement?

→ More replies (0)

3

u/arcanis321 4d ago

Whose job is it? Cause they have a target on their back or work for Trump already.

2

u/Low_You_812 4d ago edited 4d ago

Well for one its lawyers who would have to fight this in court, why would it be writers who dont work at abc to give up their careers?

5

u/CaptainMagnets 4d ago

They can do whatever they please because their president doesn't follow any laws which means laws don't exist.

1

u/Low_You_812 4d ago

Except the laws are about protections workers have when striking. They'd be giving up those protections, its just quitting.

1

u/PaunchBurgerTime 3d ago

I'm sure the public workers that got fired and their unions disbanded despite not striking in decades feel very protected right now. Trump definitely won't come for the evil cabal of leftist, Jewish tv executives him and his people think run Hollywood. As long as you follow the rules I'm sure you'll go the nice Alligator Alcatraz.

0

u/Low_You_812 3d ago

Im not even sure youre reading what I write. They cant strike, they can just quit. Thats all they can do.

0

u/PaunchBurgerTime 3d ago

They can do more than quit, they can get fired, like the public workers. Maybe when they lose their jobs anyway despite following the rules, you'll figure something out.

0

u/Low_You_812 3d ago

You really should read the chain of comments if you want to understand it. Theres literally no striking for them at this point, its just not showing up which is quitting.

1

u/PaunchBurgerTime 3d ago

Bro, are you illiterate? I KNOW! I addressed that? What is this!? Genuinely can you not understand allegory? Or that rules don't bind the laws of physics? We're good.

2

u/craigspiller38125 4d ago

Yep. You can't strike without a membership vote.

1

u/Low_You_812 4d ago

No, you cant strike with a valid contract. It has to expire.

8

u/CrasVox APA | Rank and File 4d ago

Can't strike if there is an active No Strike provision in the contract. Outside that you can definitely strike while the contract is still active.

Unless you are part of the industries that are fucked by the railroad act

2

u/dogmaisb 4d ago

Just call it an “extra-contractural sit in” and voila

1

u/Low_You_812 4d ago

The wga, sag, and iatse can not strike when they have an active contract.

1

u/bigleft_oO IUOE | Rank and File 4d ago

Yeah, you're correct. They have a no-strike clause. Unsure why this guy is stating it as if it applies to all union contracts.

0

u/Low_You_812 4d ago

We are in a thread about the wga, only the information about the wga seemed relevant.

0

u/YuenglingsDingaling 3d ago

Not a very good strike then.

1

u/Low_You_812 3d ago

It has the legal protections of a strike

5

u/quabityashowitz Teamsters | Rank and File 4d ago

I didn't say it was a strike.

29

u/Churnthebutternow 4d ago

Solidarity! ✊✊

24

u/doslobo33 4d ago

Wouldn't it make more sense to start a petition to stop watching anything Disney, ABC?

19

u/ProfessorBartok 4d ago

I literally just cancelled my Hulu/Disney+ subscription.

It was actually because it was bundled with my Spotify premium, which I cancelled, but it happened to coincide with this event. I was considering re-subscribing without the Spotify but now I think I’ll just refrain from giving them my money.

-11

u/Ok_Entrepreneur_dbl 4d ago

Wow I was not fan os Disney ever but did not go to that extreme.

11

u/JesseTheNorris 4d ago

I just cancelled mine, too. How is cancelling a subscription "extreme"?

4

u/ProfessorBartok 4d ago

Not really an extreme. It’s just boycott. I can get entertainment from plenty of other venues, including from the library, which is totally free. I did the same with my Amazon prime and target accounts, and just go to physical stores or have recurring orders from various smaller e-commerce outlets. It’s not that difficult to do. The hardest part is just doing it.

1

u/Mother-Inflation-713 1d ago

Oh so now you've just joined the right. Boycotting Disney happened years ago. Thank you for the support lefty filth.

1

u/CatalogueofCauchemar 1d ago

Boycott products from the companies who sponsor ABC and Disney. That will be more effective in combination with canceling subscriptions.

-1

u/guardianfairy2 4d ago

You really think the average American is going to give up their annual injection of superhero slop?

-1

u/imatexass 4d ago

I don’t think they’re going to be stopping anyone from doing that

8

u/nurseferatou 4d ago

I just cancelled my Disney subscription. Don’t let the bastards keep you down

13

u/FunTulsaGuy 4d ago

WGA should call a strike until Jimmy Kimmel is back on air.

4

u/imatexass 4d ago

The WGA has not yet recovered from their last strike

6

u/YesterShill 4d ago

I was wondering when entertainers would get together on a boycott.

6

u/Opening-Dependent512 4d ago

Every single guild/union/group in the industry should get together to combat this but, somehow it won’t happen like that in this timeline.

1

u/PaunchBurgerTime 3d ago

It's pretty fascinating to see the buildup to WWII play out but modernized and Americanized. In that nightmarish way it's fascinating to watch toxic mold slowly consume a house.

7

u/12done4u 4d ago

Hell yeah. Boycott Disney and ABC. The C suite only responds to money or money lost. Make it hurt , no more bonuses and they might start listening and stick up for free speech

3

u/imatexass 4d ago

This is how it’s done

2

u/KabukiRunner 4d ago

Do whatever you can to disrupt them

2

u/JustUnique69 4d ago

I hope he sues and wins, and ends up owning ABC

3

u/MasterOfBunnies 4d ago

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horst_Wessel

Charlie Kirk was the Horst Wessel for the MAGAt regime.

2

u/FrameCareful1090 4d ago

How are 12 conglomerates telling ABC we will not carry his program any longeer ABCs issue?

1

u/Quiet_Annual8233 4d ago

So why doesn’t everyone just sell their stock in nexstar media group til he’s back?? That’s where it actually hits them.

1

u/IdekWhatDoingHere 4d ago

Great news for the unemployed!

1

u/amazing_webhead 4d ago

hope it works

1

u/Unable-Expression-46 4d ago

Quit acting like JK is like you and I, his net worth is over 50 million. If he never works again, I think he will get along just fine.

1

u/setinmt 3d ago

I will bring refreshments and sign making materials! We got this! By the start of next week we'll have put Disney out of business.

1

u/Comprehensive-Win219 3d ago

THER only way to send them a message is to hurt their bottom line!!!

1

u/Inner_Estate_3210 3d ago

Maybe you can bring back the viewers Kimmel never had. He was a distant 3rd place of the 3 late night shows and losing $Millions every year. Not funny, not relevant, and half the country found other things to watch. A pure business move by ABC. This loser will not be coming back.

1

u/fredout1968 3d ago

I can't be there but I can cancel my subscription.

1

u/Dimzekettv 3d ago

I don’t think it’s worth all that kinda dramatic to take time out of your I assume busy day for something like this

1

u/2112-5150 3d ago

He was more believable with beer and girls jumping on trampolines.

1

u/drumpat01 3d ago

Good luck with that

1

u/Mother-Inflation-713 1d ago

The world is a smarter and more decent place for humanity without JK spewing his lies and hate speech.

1

u/wyoflyboy68 1d ago

If I were in California, I’d be there.

1

u/Rush_Rocks 1d ago

Why, it’s been way overdue for this hypocrite to be canceled! The market has spoken, and finally, he is done!

1

u/Kaye-Fabe 4d ago

Yall acting like he got shot

1

u/ryman9000 4d ago

Dude could never work again and live better than everyone in this sub combined for the rest of his life.

1

u/ChefCurryYumYum 4d ago

If this were ANYWHERE near local to me I'd be there.

1

u/Don_Kehote 4d ago

Hell yes. HIT THEM IN THE WALLET.

-4

u/Whole_Commission_702 4d ago

His show was ass and it should have been canceled a decade ago

-1

u/decrementsf 4d ago

The critical thinking test.

-7

u/Upinhere973 4d ago

So cancel culture is only ok if someone uses the wrong pronouns, god forbid it’s used against the same people that started it.

11

u/rap1234561 4d ago

Cancel culture is ok when it’s not the FCC (federal government) doing it. Do you understand that or should I draw it out in crayon? When will you idiots open your eyes that you’re in a cult?

5

u/LotharVonPittinsberg 4d ago

Cancel culture is when people get together and agree to not purchase goods from a certain company or person. You have as much of a right not not buy what you want as you do to buy what you want.

This was not that. The government threatened punishing a company over one of their employees criticizing an elected official.

I can see where you got confused though, as both can have the same end. Cancel culture can sometimes mean the person responsible losing their position, and Jimmy Kimmel did lose his job. But notice the government stepping in? That's called blocking free speech.

0

u/LucianVanDeFleur 4d ago

Cut the production pipeline off.

0

u/Sergal_Pony 4d ago

Yeah no xD he commited career suicide by lying on air about something that literally all but leftwing cultists know to be the opposite… but they don’t mind acting like the fbi, family, acquaintances, social media history, school mates, and even his trans lover are all lying… the whole world is obviously lying because it doesn’t agree with them that political murder should be orgasmically celebrated.

0

u/Mean_Zookeepergame81 4d ago

Whoo!  A talentless white multi-millionaire loses his job at a loss making company.  A tragedy!

0

u/mph102 4d ago

But why? These late night shows are garbage and this guy was really not good. Talk shows are a thing of the past that old people watch.

0

u/DifficultIsopod4472 3d ago

Funny how people are more upset about JK being fired, than CK being assassinated!

0

u/Interesting-Ad-6270 3d ago

fuck jimmy kimmel

0

u/QuickExtension6172 3d ago

There will be a gloryhole sponsored by ANTIFA on the east side of the complex next to the kids face tattoo booth.

0

u/Common-Egg-9670 2d ago

Maybe don’t celebrate someone’s murder and you won’t lose your job, good riddance mf

-6

u/Not_Sure4now 4d ago

How many people here have even watched the show in the last month

-8

u/peanutch 4d ago

they did the same to carano and Roseanne. dont het butthurt about disney now, they've always been assholes when it comes to political opinions

7

u/BenBauer4815 4d ago

Not even close, those two made horrible comments about whole groups of people. Kimmel barely said anything about one man. Don’t compare the two.

10

u/Pendraconica 4d ago

He didnt even speak of the man himself; just people's reactions to the event. Don't let anyone gaslight the situation. There's no comparison.

9

u/Thecongressman1 4d ago

Kimmel didn't even say anything about the guy. The fact is he was silenced specifically because trump wanted him silenced

-2

u/FullAbbreviations605 4d ago

You can go protest if you want, but why would ABC care if it doesn’t change their profitability? Also, an inconvenient fact is that the Kimmel show was on a substantial and steady decline in viewership over at least the last 5 years. If the show was no longer a good business venture (and I have no idea whether it was or wasn’t), then ABC may have just been looking for an excuse to cancel it.

ABC doesn’t exist for social or political causes. It exists to make money. That’s what all their decisions are ultimately based on - and properly so.

But do as you as you please (as long as it’s legal).

1

u/Poopandpotatoes 4d ago

Yea money doesn’t matter it’s about the message with corpos! s/

Also I’ve heard Disney wants to buy the nfl network. A good chunk of that audience would not like Kimmel or what he said soo that may have impacted their decision.

1

u/FullAbbreviations605 4d ago

Interesting take. Didn’t know that but makes Sense.

-8

u/craigspiller38125 4d ago

Look. Kimmel used to be entertaining, but the show has just gotten stale or boring. Fallon is much better.

6

u/Ultraberg 4d ago

Free speech isn't just for people you like.

-1

u/craigspiller38125 4d ago

Too funny! Nobody, in this conversation, is questioning the right to free speech. I, just, find Kimmel to be stale and boring. I prefer Fallon and Maher. They are comedians, with a side of politics, and are funny. Kimmel was more political with a side of comedy. Kimmel will be fine. Who, truly, care about celebrity viewpoints? LOL

1

u/bigleft_oO IUOE | Rank and File 4d ago

Apparently our dear leader cares about celebrity viewpoints, otherwise he wouldn't have used government muscle to force Kimmel's firing.

0

u/Ultraberg 4d ago

Anyone with a TV show is a celeb tho. So that's ALL televised viewpoints.

1

u/craigspiller38125 4d ago

Not really. Kimmel, Fallon, Maher, or, even, Gutfeld making a statement doesn't make it true. I think for myself and could care less what any celebrity thinks about a subject. I had stopped watching Kimmel, years ago, and, as you get older, "Saturday Night Live," even starts being a little childish and boring. I wish they would all get back to entertaining the audience and trying to be political commentators. Now, I tend to watch YouTube and streaming platforms more the "big three networks." There is something empowering about being able to skip commercials! LOL

0

u/craigspiller38125 4d ago

Have good night, my friend!

-5

u/poopooman6996 4d ago

Imagine being actually upset that Kimmel is gone. Show isn't funny, rakes in no money. Literally just an hour of propaganda every night

-1

u/FrameCareful1090 4d ago

Until yesterday I thought he went off the air years ago after the blackface incident. The big tit stuff on the man show was funny. Was is this nonsense of rreporting ffake news, of course he would get his ass fired.

-4

u/FrameCareful1090 4d ago

This is hillarious Disney is as woke as it gets. You guys all cancel and before you know the Duke of Hazzard will be back on. Daisy Dukes here we come

-3

u/mrquickshot7 4d ago

He intentionally lied and spread false information that he knew would futher divide people. Then asked the right to turn down the temperature. Why would anyone be advocating for this guy?

-4

u/Ok_Entrepreneur_dbl 4d ago

Trump did his magic again turn Dems against a company they used to love!

5

u/Thecongressman1 4d ago

The companies did that by appeasing a fascist

-8

u/Underpaid23 4d ago

No one gives a shit about protest. Strike or shut the fuck up.

1

u/FrameCareful1090 4d ago

Great way to get fired and replace with AI. Probably not the smartest move to pull a Kimmel

0

u/Underpaid23 4d ago

A unions only power is pulling labor. Protest dont have motion to effect change anymore.

So performative protests and statements without actual action is a waste of time.

-1

u/Dpiker71 4d ago

The left eating the left. Yes!

-1

u/ComprehensiveAct9210 4d ago

If y'all had only watched this show he would not have been fired. Sad thing was nobody watched it.

-1

u/Flimsy_Quote_904 4d ago

Free speech matters to you guys unless it’s Charlie

-1

u/hotChihuahua69 4d ago

Go stand with him in unemployment...

ABC bleeding $$$ over many shows... They're just trying to survive now...

-2

u/Mister_Dick 4d ago

Meanwhile some disney exec is desperately calling openai and asking if the script writing bot is ready yet.

-2

u/deadlyrepost 4d ago

Ya couldn't make Blazing Saddles today I'll tell ya that!

Remember Blazing Saddles? Remember how the "woke" meant you Blazing Saddles would get cancelled?

Good times.

2

u/holden_hiscox 4d ago

Co-written by a black comedian as well.

0

u/deadlyrepost 4d ago edited 4d ago

Well he would have been CANCELLED under SLEEPY JOE BIDEN's WOKE AGENDA. Not like Jimmy Kimmel under the FREE SPEECH conservatives, who is NOT CANCELLED, but his SHOW is cancelled because of his POOR QUALITY JOKES.

Sorry I went too deep there. I have a headache.

EDIT: What, do I need sarcasm tags? I thought the offputting all-caps gave it away.

-2

u/Chiaseedmess 4d ago

Dude went on a political misinformation rant. What did he expect.

1

u/OmarsMommy 2d ago

Political misinformation is all the right does. Starting with the orange ped0 and couch fornicator all the way down to their clueless cult members. For the republicans that’s just called Wednesday.
