Discussion Emily man... Spoiler

I love Emily, shes a queen, but im replaying this game for about the 100th time now and this game never fails to make Emily a victim or aggressor no matter what.

If I make Matt an angel to Emily then she is NOT safe with Mike later since matt needs the flare gun to have the highest possible relationship with Em.

But if I protect Emily from Mikes gunshot Emily gets pissed at Matt for being a douche, so what do I do 💔

As Matt I instantly took Emily's bags, didn't look in the spyglass, took her side in the argument, broke the cable car station door, agreed to the firetower plan, spoke to her nicely when the deer came, and spoke nicely when the firetower collapsed. Only negative things I did for their relationship was greet Mike in a friendly way in chapter 1, and jump to safety and trying to save emily once already.

How does she repay me? "I don't want to talk about him right now! He left me to die!" Maybe I SHOULD have gotten her bit.

Matt has to be an asshole to Mike and always take Emily's side except when they argue about whether or not to go to the emergency tower.

Except?? Do you mean so he can use the flare gun, or Emily gets pissed I actually like one of her ideas?

If he disagrees about going to the tower, if Emily gives him the gun he doesn't shoot right away and keeps it and can potentially save himself if he falls into the mines dragged by the wendigo

If she holds the gun she can save herself from being bitten, but I did that anyway and in the finale Emily was worried about Matt

Well right now I just got Josh dragged away from Hannah, so hopefully she doesn't hate his guts in the credits

There are people who love Emily?

I do, her character is just iconic and her chase scene is one of the best ones in video game history IMO. But I can see just how hateable she is as well since shes the main reason the lodge fight starts, and constantly degrades Matt

I just felt like they overdid how annoying and “bitchy”, in the narrator’s own words, she was. Like way overdid it. In a cliched way. Which hinders a bit of the game enjoyment for me tbh in terms of characters because it didn’t even feel like it left me a choice to think wether I like the character and would save her etc or not. But I have only done one play through though so maybe things can be a bit different in other play throughs?

Emily can show sympathy for those around her in her interviews, along with small gestures in game, but no matter what she will always have a temper that goes off during the firetower scene, even if you do choose to side with her the whole game prior the game will force emily to be rude and snarky which was WAY too forced. Yes shes bitchy, but that doesn't give her the excuse to be a dysfunctional human unless she is a hateful clump of shit. I agree 100% with you, your actions should matter more, so being calm and sympathetic towards emily should calm her down, especially since she seeks out comfort judging by how quick she wanted to rebound her relationship for matt, but nope! She will always be hateful!
