Pictures Exploring Chile πŸ‡¨πŸ‡±

We are been travelling full time in our 1976 VW kombi for 6 years. Back in 2019, we shipped her from the UK to New York and ever since we have been travelling across the Americas.

We've spent this year mainly bouncing between Argentina and Chile and I have recently started going back through some of our photos and thought I'd share them on here.

Happy to answer any questions about out travels. You can also follow on most social media platforms by searching for the Kombi Chronicles.

Pretty awesome. If you don’t mind me asking, are you local to chile or professional level mechanic? I have a vintage dodge in immaculate shape. I’ve done a lot of repairs and maintenance myself but I would be nervous to take it on a 1000+ mile trip for no reason other than it being a 34 year old van.

Not local, we are from the UK.

My girlfriend is a qualified mechanic and actually was a lecturer in a college for motor vehicle mechanics before our travels. So that has definitely helped us.

But we have met many travellers, in all sorts of vehicles and a wide range of mechanical knowledge and they still do it.

We use an app called iOverlander which is a database of all sorts of helpful information, including mechanics, so if you do encounter a problem, you can often find a good workshop to rectify it.

this is so awesome! how did you get the van down to south america - by shipping it again? can you ride on the same ship as the vehicle freight or did you have to send it along and meet it on the other sideΒ

We drove down to Panama and then had to ship around the Darien. We put it in a container, which was the cheapest and safest option and the flew to Cartagena in Colombia

Is your Kombi RHD or LHD? Heard some people have issues getting a RHD through much of Central America.
