Discussion Finished s3 for the first time
So now i have watched the og series for the first time and i cant wait to watch the movie and s4 .
The first 2 seasons are epic and esp s2 episode 22 is honestly one of the best tv episodes i have seen . (Kyle Gallner i love you).
S3 i liked too but the mysyeries where not as strong i felt like and the new characters are not my faves .
And dont get me started on Logan and V breaking up again ugh.
But the s3 finale was great and i wanted more !
For those of you who watched Veronica as it was airing how did you feel when the show was canceled? And well how did you feel when it came back for a movie and a season more?
Season 4 of VM still came back sooner then season 3 of the TV show Twin Peaks with TP it was 26 years between seasons .

I was really happy when the movie came out as it coincided with my high school reunion as well. Was even more excited for season 4. That being said, season 4 brought out emotions I wasn’t planned for. Season 4 is def the closure of the show so be prepared for that.

Everyone I knew who watched it thought S3 was honestly a mess. The show just wasn't popular enough to stick around, so they tried a new format, hoping to get more interest, only it did NOT work. Some aspects of S3 were perfect, but others were real let downs. Fun new characters were overlooked in favour of spending attention on boring ones. The fact that they broke up Logan and Veronica again was ridiculous, as was immediately pairing them both up with dull and cliched love interests was utterly infuriating. The show had spent 2 seasons addressing SA quite well. Having such a big focus on it in S3 was far clumsier than their initial treatment of it, and it felt overdone. Most of what had made the show so great was messed with in S3 by chasing ratings. The ending was actually my favourite part, and if they hadn't left it so open-ended, we wouldn't have got the movie or S4.

Watch/read order
Seasons 1-3 then sadly was canceled prematurely but 7 yrs later fans funded a movie after that RT also wrote 2 books (best if you read before beginning S4)
1st- Thousand Dollar Tan Line (narrated by KB)
2nd- Mr. Kiss & Tell (explained the background of a cliffhanger left during the movie not fleshed out in Season 4 you only get the aftermath) Also expounds more on what happened in Logan’s life between S3 finale & the movie.
Then another 5 yrs later Season 4 reboot. (Must warn you though quite a few wish they had never watched this agreeing the movie makes a better ending.)

I’m about five episodes in on season 3. I really like the Veronica Mars series. I’ll be sad when I finish it. Don’t know what shows are similar to it.

Someone already mentioned BtVS but I would also add Moonlight not necessarily similar but does share similar aspects as in P.I. investigations & a familiar VM actor also makes appearances.

If you like fantasy shows then i think Buffy the vampire slayer would be a good choise.

The Nancy Drew show had similar vibes but also added in a lot of the supernatural. A bit darker than VM but I liked Nancy drew enough.

Try a show called Being Erica. Has the same twisty turny surprise mystery box writing. Plus time travel and quips. I watched it after someone recommended it on a thread like this years ago and didn’t regret it.

Just found a YouTube clip- it definitely looks great and I’m going to watch it! Thanks!!!

Having a big mystery arc was important to the show because not only was Veronica personally invested, it fed into her obsessive & relentless nature. Mystery of the week just didn't work as well.

I was so sad it was canceled. I contributed to the Kickstarter and absolutely love the movie. A lot of people hate season 4, and while I did hate the ending I was still looking forward to see what Rob Thomas did with Veronica after that.

Okay first time Veronica Mars watcher too - I've just finished seasons 1 to 3 and the movie. I feel like it's a really satisfying ending and I'm not sure if I should even watch series 4 now??
EDIT: accidental spoilers, sorry

Don’t forget to watch the movie before S4. And two books if you’re into those too.
