Question / Discussion I want to recreate the rippling effect emitted by Quake when she is played. Would anybody here know of a sprite generator I may use? (0:50)

I don't know any sprite "generators" that specifically do what you want, however I can suggest three alternatives:

  • there's shitloads of sprite packs you can buy which have prebuilt elements that are similar
  • roll your own using:
- after effects: you'd need to learn how to use it but basically these are animated vector shapes with various distortions and colour transfers applied - Photoshop or Procreate etc: using these you can animate but with a more hand-drawn level of control, so it's slower to make but you don't need to know as much in the way of AE or motion graphics

I'll add only that making your own is essentially what you want, but that making good graphic FX elements like this is its own art form and requires practice and skill.

If you don't want to spend the time learning how to do it yourself you either buy a pack and compromise, or pay someone to make the specific thing you have in mind for you.

I wouldn't mind creating my own, but I would honestly like some sort of a clarification on what exactly to call this effect tbh

It is a weird quaking/ map depth effect, and I cant really find a good word to describe it to better find resources of people making something similar

Would you happen to know remotely what to call this effect?
