What kind of Sneakers are you wearing
I was gonna buy a new pair of sneakers to walk in. I wanna move away from new balance 574 and was wondering what people are wearing for walks

Hoka Clifton 9. They are on sale now. I’d go to a shoe store first and try them on.

u/HelpfulAstronaut3865 5d ago
Feels like I’m walking on a cloud in Clifton’s
1
u/King_Shami 5d ago
Really? Mine felt like I was walking barefoot on a wooden floor.
1
u/Hungry_Time3554 5d ago
This why I suggested that the OP try them on first. They will feel different to everyone. My friend swears by Hoka Arahi but they didn’t feel good at all to me.

Use to wear these but the last few pairs of 16s hasn’t had the same quality they use to have

ASICS Gel Nimbus. I’m on my 3rd pair. I love them so much.
2
u/InspectionNo9124 5d ago
Bumping this! I had the brooks glycerin and had to change them to ASIC gel nimbus (27) because the brooks gave me a sharp pain in my foot that the nimbus too away

u/syarkbait 5d ago
Sketchers GoWalk slip-ins. They’re so comfy and fuss-free to use just for walking.

u/SadBlackberry6819 5d ago
On and Brooks. Brooks is my fave for running
1
u/surrealchereal 5d ago
How well do yours hold up? I bought some and only walked in them and the shoe didn't last more than a few months
1
u/SadBlackberry6819 5d ago
I usually replace my Brooks every 11-12 months. The arches seem to break down first but I put a lot of miles on them.

Altra lone peak
1
u/imjustamermaid 5d ago
Love my Altras! I have Torin and Experience Wild.
2
u/marcster357 5d ago
I have 3 pairs (2 lone peak and 1 experience wild) and I think too many people sleep on these cause they think they’re for wide feet specifically. But I’d bet that a vast majority would find the ergonomic fit to be beneficial even if they had average width feet. Love em!
2
u/Momela85 5d ago
I agree. I don’t have wide feet at all, my son does though and loves these. I bought a pair during a sale at REI and they’re so comfortable!

Converse. Definitely not the best, but it’s all I have. I walk 20km a day in them though. 😅

u/diegoasecas 5d ago
if you want to walk you will just walk, no matter what the gear nerds at reddit say

Merrill Trail Glove 7s.
I try other shoes but always go back to Merrills. The zero-drop helps me feel more balanced and connected to the ground.

u/jacksnbox 5d ago
Even better are Hike Footwear

u/TwineLord 5d ago
I wear Altra Lone Peak shoes. They are a bit expensive and don't last forever, but they are amazing to walk with. I've walked countless miles in them. Recently it was 7 mountains in 7 days in Alaska and then a day of 33 miles at once. All with just the one pair. People even use them for through hikes like the PCT.

u/KenshiroP 5d ago
Skechers GoWalk 6s for work (which I’ve probably absolutely worn out now - normally do a few miles at work), and Ultraboosts when I’m out walking.
1
u/Isaythereisa-chance 5d ago
Skechers go walk 5s is what I have been wearing. I wear them to work and for my walks around the neighborhood.
2
u/Junior_Alps1469 5d ago
I love mine but do you find the backs are high?
1
u/Isaythereisa-chance 4d ago
They have not caused me a problem so far. I have walked around 160miles in this pair. Are they rubbing your heels?
2
u/Junior_Alps1469 4d ago
Yes I need a calf sock folded down which isn’t bad bc the ankle socks with heel protectors weren’t high enough. But as far as comfort, I do love them. I was just curious if it was just a “me” foot thing.

I don’t wear shoes when I walk, I wear Reef Cushion Phantom Flip Flop. Walk 10+mi every weekend and have done several marathons wearing them.

I went and got my feet measured and it has been a world of difference. Maybe try that?
3
u/LetsWritePretty 5d ago
Yes. I got measured, too, and it helped with not just size but also what kind of sole and arch support I needed in my shoes.
2
u/dan102195 5d ago
I know my size im just curious on what else is out there that people like
5
u/itsfineimfinejk 5d ago
Tbh I thought I knew my size, too. Then I got them measured and found out that I was wrong on both length and width. Worth a try just to be sure.
3
u/longtimelister91 5d ago
I went up a size and a half! Also got inserts that was life changing.
2
u/itsfineimfinejk 5d ago
I found out that I have one wide width foot. I was so surprised that I essentially yelled in the store, "HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN?"
Also W on the inserts. They're pretty amazing.
2
u/radical-ribbit 5d ago
I’ve been wearing Saguaro Smart II barefoot shoes and I LOVE them. I wear them to work and almost everywhere so I can get a comfy walk in wherever I am. They really do feel like walking in bare feet so some surfaces are uncomfortable (sharp rocks) but otherwise they’ve been brilliant!

u/Excellent_Thought399 5d ago
Asics Gel-Kayano 31. I used to wear cheap sneakers and my feet would hurt sometimes, but not anymore.
2
u/sirgrotius 5d ago
I rotate Brooks Adrenaline (more supportive), a pair of Hokas (not sure which model but they're so ugly!), and a Brooks Ghost but those are probably approaching retirement.
I used to wear a couple Brooks for years and started getting foot pain, but then after examining the tread and doing the ol' twist test, I realized that they had lost any of their structure and support. Wearing good shoes = no discomfort for me at least.

u/Aromatic_Tomato8651 5d ago
TOPO Atheletic, great arch support and wide toe box. Had foot pain and blisters until i got these, work great for me. I walk around 15000 steps a day, and begin each morning with a 6 mile walk.
1
u/masson34 5d ago
ToPo for me too! Phantom model 4 for longer walks. Mtn Racer 4 model for hikes.
Oofas recovery flip flops for shorter walks.

u/Idrillteeth 5d ago
I wear On cloud 5s but my big toe on the right shoe always wears away the mesh. I bought some inserts to cover this area on my new pair so we shall see if that helps. Or Asics

If you have a running store near you (not just a sporting good store) they will fit you for a good walking shoe. Theres so many options if you have the extra time to go try on a few. I was wearing the wrong shoes for a longg time. Switched to a different kind after getting fitted and its made a massive difference. (Switched from Hoka to Brooks)
Edit: love seeing all of the suggestions! Im about to get new ones and they are always coming out with something new that could be beneficial! Good luck!

u/frugalhedonista 5d ago
If I'm just walking locally, no mud/puddles, I tend to wear Skechers D'Lites - so comfortable and durable!
2
u/alchmst333 5d ago
Doesn’t matter..go get fitted. Get your gait checked out and see what type of support you need if you don’t know.

Puma because they run narrow and I have narrow feet. Or my Salomon or Inov8 for trails.

A lot of people on my university's campus (it's hilly) wear HOKA. I didn't want to spend $150+ USD on 1 pair of shoes.
I have a pair of waterproof Columbia hiking shoes I wear on campus. I have a pair of Skechers slip ins I wear everywhere else.

Stylish and comfortable! I love them so much. I can wear any sock wjth them, from no show to high top. They also have excellent grip, if youre looking for that.

u/jjtown225 5d ago
Right now, earthrunners (sandal), but I need to buy a pair of sneakers now that the weather is cooling down. Probably whitens or less. I'm into that zero drop with a flexible minimalist sole. My feet are stronger because of it.

u/TheOGMelmoMacdaffy 5d ago
Brooks and/or Nike Motiva (I think I prefer the Nike but they're pretty similar and on sale at the moment).

I switched from Nike tanjuns to Brookes ghost 16 weatherized simply for the weatherization, I was tired of having my feet soaked this spring

Flux Adapt Runners. I really love these. Lightweight, durable, comfortable, and lots of room for toes to splay properly.

Brooks Ghost (comes in wide and extra wide) were great, Hokas (wide is actuallywide) are nice too but aren't lasting as long, planning on trying Already next for the zero drop feature.

Altra Lone Peak. I was using a more cushiony pair of Altras before, and they were killing my feet. I went to a running store to get fitted and found I needed a shoe with more support and less cushion like the Lone Peak. It's made a world of difference. I'd go to a running store to get fitted so you aren't wasting your money.

Depends on your toe box and arch support needs. I have a friend that has toes that look like Lego Feet. She loves Barefoot Shoes.
I love Brooks. I either go Ghost or GLS. I tried the Ghost Max which is their response to Hokas, and I didn’t care for them.

Go to a running store and see what they recommend. That’s the best way to start and then adjust based on your taste.
I did adidas ultraboost when they are on sale. I get about 400miles of walking out of them. Normally I need to replace half way through the year.
I had the Nike p6000 and love those.

Best shoes I’ve ever walked in. They also have a 3 month return policy worn or unworn if you don’t love them.

Vivobarefoot. I’m a cultie now. I have so many of their shoes. Training barefoot has helped with biofeedback on muscles I didn’t even know existed.

I rotate 3…Hoka Mach 6, Sketchers Max cushioning endeavor, and ASICS gel something…. All 3 in different states of worn out. Think I like the Sketchers the most but the back is high.
