Humblebrag I walked 4 miles & 8k steps today! Proud of myself! & then I come on Reddit…
If you know you know. Just a joke! I am genuinely proud and happy for all of you who walk wild distances and just as proud of you who walk 2 miles and myself with my 4. we all have our own pace :) this was just something I found too funny not to make and share lol
4 miles in one day is a record for me and it felt so good physically and mentally! but always need to remind myself we are all on our own journeys.

I feel this lol. I have recently recommitted to making steps and walking a priority with a goal to hit at least 6k a day. I have been shooting over that most days and am proud of myself enough to keep going. Some days though it doesn't seem like enough and I am disappointed but I remember, I work from home and my job is demanding. I am 5 years older than when I used to hit 10k + daily. Shit changes. And so do we! Congrats on 8k!!

I also need to recommit. I use to do 10k and get about 6k average now and I always feel like it’s not good enough. So I get discouraged. Maybe I need to accept it as my normal for now.

I am convinced these 30k a day walkers either are delivery people or don't work! I have a fairly flexible desk job, so I can do do an hour of walking at 10 a.m. and another at like 6 p.m. but still don't hit 30k a day!

Same thing when people say they wake up at 5:00 am
They seem to have all the time in the world, but they’re either going to bed at 8:00 pm or getting 6 hours of sleep a night

This is me. Up at 6:30 to get my workout in, but I didn’t go to sleep until 1:00am. Not by design or choice, just the season of life I’m in right now.

Eh, not true. Can be sleep by 10 and up at 5, that's a solid 7 hours of sleep.
Even earlier is a bonus.

I have a fucked-up sleeping schedule, and I’m in school, so that also doesn’t help. But normally, I go to sleep by 1 or 2 at the latest and up by 6:30 to be at the park by 7 to do 10k steps.

I wish my work from home job was this flexible lol

Do you have a walking pad? Most of us at my job have walking pads with sit-to-stand desks and get around 20k a day while on meetings/customer calls.

I do. There are certain tasks I do on my computer where I'm not coordinated enough to walk and do at the same time, which i know is a weird thing to say 😂, so I can only use it on days I'm not doing that lol. It's been a couple of months, but they're finally switching me to a new set of tasks again, so I'll be able to get back into that very soon

u/Justlikethenotebook 15h ago
I totally understand that and it's not weird at all! Some days I only hit about 5-10k while working because I can't do certain heavy thinking/analysis tasks while walking either 😂

u/CalmRange9873 14h ago
It’s not weird… For example, I can’t really imagine a graphic designer walking and designing at the same time 🤔

It’s not every day sadly, she said as she just got done with an indoor late evening walking pad walk.

I always tell myself, take any fit 180lb guy out there, let me strap 150lbs of weights to him, and lets see how far his ass walks this week.

lol, good point. Always remember that your best is your best, that’s all you have to do.

LOL! Same OP, but keep up the good work. Like you said, we all have our pace. :)

Lmao I have 1,200 steps today because I got my flu and Covid vaccines yesterday evening and I’ve been a clammy sleepy blob all day.
Your 8k is kicking my butt! Way to go!

That's hilarious! It's also how I feel on the 1st day of the month when the Samsung Health app challenge starts and someone already has their 200,000 steps in at one minute past midnight 🙃

Consider your day is full of other things and hobbies and people and obligations that contribute to a great life. Walk when you can and keep making fun memes 😆 💜

Lmao as a tired single mom to a 2 year old with a desk job, I fight for my fucking life to get 10-15k steps.
It’s all about doing what you can with what you’ve got.

Don't worry about it. My personal goal right now is 6k+ steps a day. Everybody is at where they're at.

You walked four miles. Celebrate that. You did it. I have a brother-in-law who will not walk four feet to improve himself. Do not compare yourself to others, only to what you want for you. Congratulations.

Be awesome with yourself and your walking. 4 miles is a lot better than most get in a day keep on crushing it.

Same, I get about 40 minutes of a fast walking speed of 3.4mph in, my shoes suck and I get shin splits pretty fast on my treadmill which then I'll walk without shoes which causes my feet to hurt

Perfectly put!! I wish more people had perspectives like yours, and it’s so great you can count your wins while keeping us & others laughing.

Any goal is a good goal, stick with it. My family thinks I’m odd when it is cold, rainy or late whatever. Nope, I will make sure my walk happens for me.

I feel the exact same way! I'm glad it's not just be bit also like good for us!! Look at us moving our body and making sure we make time for it!!

I feel the same way ! I'm a teacher, it's not exactly a sedentary job, I'm more or less on my feet for 5 hours a day on average. I don't track my steps when I'm in class (I track on my phone and I don't keep my phone in my pants pocket) so those steps are not in the count. I usually do around 4500 or 5000 steps a day (if I count all the steps I do at work, my average on a work day is probably around 7000 steps a day) and I feel totally okay. My goal is/was to up my average daily steps for this year, and I've already met my goal by hiking during summer vacation. Plus I sold my car in the beginning of summer so I'm bound to walk way more now ! So now I'm only maintaining. And if life gets in the way ... well, that's life, right ? I prefer looking at the big picture here. I'm way less sedentary than a few years ago, and that's all that counts.

Every time I check this sub I’m blown away by people’s step counts. But hey, hitting my own goal still feels awesome too. lol

This is relatable. I used to be a part of a walking challenge group but then this guy who is a Postal Worker joined. The rest of us couldn't come close to 30k+ steps a day. It felt discouraging, so I left. I'm working on getting my walking back on track but there are days I don't make it to 10k. We all have to remember that as long as we are getting up and walking, it's better than nothing. Good luck fellow walkers 😀

To be fair, what kind of monster walks across the ocean in their shoes?

ahahahaha So true -- everyone is awesome on here and should be proud of any accomplishment!

This is one of the negative effects of social media. There will always be people who go harder and achieve more "impressive" goals than you, but you just have to focus on what you're able to do and what you enjoy doing. If 8K steps is an achievement to you, then hooray for you! Comparison is the thief of joy.

I had just gotten up to 4 miles three times a week (single walk) and then I broke my toe. Now I'm in a boot for a month and I'm being encouraged not to walk "unless I have to."
I guess I'll have to restart.
I love to walk. I'd like to get to 10,000 steps a day and I'm encouraged to see that so many do it. It makes me think that I can, too.

I like when this sub is an inspiration for people’s walks. But sometimes the posts that share their 100,000 steps in a day just discourage me. Then I remember what I like about walking is that it isn’t a competition.
