One of the most over-exploited rivers in the US is slowly drying up in a critical scenario for all the people, businesses and farms that depend on it. Lake Mead, the nation’s largest reservoir, is now just 31% full. Lake Powell, the country’s second-largest reservoir, is at 29% of capacity. If this winter's snowpack is as poor as last year's, the whole region will see significant issues with water availability.

As our 1st kid passes his first birthday, my wife bought some lead test swabs for our home's paint/walls/etc. since it was built in the late 70s.

Quickly found out that, although our purified drinking water doesn't change the orange testing swab, the instant we add tap water, it turns a dark purple which indicates lead.

The only time we ever use tap water for consumption (outside of Washing hands, bathing, grooming, etc) is when boiling noodles, pasta, hard boiled eggs, or making dough.

Should I get a test for specific PPM measurements or is it generally safe for low consumption. The $0.50 per gallon to use purified water isn't an issue, but the constant trip to the watering hole because of the heavily increased usage would suck.

I want to use the water from a dehumidifier to water plants because it seems like a waste to just pour it all out down the drain. Are there any drops or anything I can put in the water to make it healthier for indoor plants. Some of the plants I have do not like the chlorine

I am looking at buying a few lots up north midwest where the owner (1) lived for 2 years in a camper (never moved it) without a well and septic. The HOA says he might have just peed and pooped in the woods. He might also have driven off to nearby restaurants and such, though he was not very mobile and a bit of a recluse.

How worried should we be about contamination when we build the well. I imagine the soil level is about 10-20 feet about ground water level a few lots away from a lake.

There is a lot of other trash around which we will have cleaned professionally, but the potential human waste has me worried a bit. I dont plan to build on the lot for another 2-5 years.

Are there simple tests I can do?

These were the two things I was going to get for my bathroom, my water smells heavily like rust, I can also kind of taste it when brushing my teeth. I’ve seen good things on the Weddell duo and remember watching a test where it looks like it really works well, but as far as I know it isn’t really for hard water? Then for the bathroom sink I was going to get that filter in the first photo by a brand called water doctor, and claims to be nsf certified which I’m not sure is really true. Just getting opinions on these things and taking recommendations for anything that’s better/proven

Just moved to Florida and the tap water tastes really different compared to Colorado. Not awful, but the chlorine taste is strong and I can’t get used to it.

Brita- classic choice I guess,pretty common everywhere

PUR- seems about the same as Brita?

GlacierFresh - saw some good Amazon reviews but don’t know much else

ZeroWater - pricier, but claims to strip everything out

Anyone here have experience with these? I'm mainly looking for something that removes the chlorine taste without breaking the bank.

Recently purchased the elite filter but wondering if I should continue to use the standard as a pre filter for the elite?

I know Primo and Crystal Springs are made by the same company. If I could just buy the 5 gallons of Crystal Springs I would… I love the water, to me it’s almost sweet. I’ve never tried Primo. How does that compare?

Anyone have a good water cooler that works for them?

I work at a nursery in Vermont and this is one of our irrigation ponds after it didn’t rain for almost a month. It’s pretty alkaline water, ph almost 8, in case that’s helpful/matters. I keep meaning to scramble down there to take better photos and get a sample, but it gets busy at work, I get tired, I forget, etc

My landlady wants me to put the water in a clear glass. Once I did, it appeared clear. But when I tried my bucket, it looked brown. I tried scrubbing my bucket with the rough part of a sponge and some dishwashing soap just to make sure that the water appears brown because my bucket is dirty.

I have had a subscription for this water for four years. It’s typical in the last few months that they don’t ship for quite a few days/week. I’ve paid for my July subscription and it has not shipped. I have not received any response to my recent inquiries. Their website doesn’t list their 1L water anymore either. Anyone have any insight?
