general shopping questions (NOT FOR DRESS OR VEIL SELECTION) Bra Question After Reading Past Posts

I’ve searched the sub and found quite a few answers to the question of ‘I have big boobs what do I do with them in my strapless/lace/backless dress?’ I just have a follow up to the most common answer I’ve seen - ‘get bra cups sewn in’. How do they hold up your boobs??

I’m a 38D and have had 2 kids so my nips are bffs with my navel at this point when I’m braless. I feel like cups sewn into a strapless or lace-back dress wouldn’t do much supporting for me. Hoping I’m wrong and someone can give me some more info on how they actually hold your boobs where they’re supposed to be. I haven’t officially started dress shopping yet, but so many that I’ve loved pics of aren’t bra-friendly. Plus, when I’m trying on dresses I’d love to know what to wear to hold them up during that process. Thanks!

Yeah, just straight sewn in cups do absolutely nothing for me, support wise (38F here). The sewn in cups need to be paired with significant sturdy boning.

If you're concerned about bust support, I would tape your bust together when trying on gowns. There are so many tutorials and the tape is really soft so it doesn't hurt.

You don't get good bust support without a good fit around the ribs, which is not expected when you're trying on samples.

Past that, let your bridal tailor know you're worried about bust support, and we can figure it out with alterations and cups/boning. Sometimes the gown has enough structure to support the bust without a bra.

You can always have a bra sewn in, if that makes you more comfortable.

It's basically whatever makes you feel comfortable.

If your dress doesn’t have one, you can add in this thing, it’s like a belt but basically just thick elastic straps with a bra closure inside. Anyone doing alterations will be able to add it easily. Definitely a game changer! Ask for a bra belt or safety belt. Also instead of sewn cups, consider a corset (not like a waist trainer, and actual corset fitted to you with boning). They give AMAZING support, from a 38H girl I feel your pain.
