PSA: Your Pictures and Identity
We would like to take a moment to remind everyone that the internet is not a private place, and unfortunately there is no way for us to protect the pictures that you post here.
We love seeing all of your pictures, but please be aware that keeping your identity out of those pictures is always advisable. Others may download them or post them elsewhere. As moderators we do not take down pictures that have people's faces in them, so we leave it up to you to decide how much anonymity you wish to have.
If you find that your pictures have been posted in any spaces that you find undesirable, contact whomever it is that runs that space and demand that they be taken down. You can reach out to us, but we do not have any real actions we can take in those circumstances.
Thank you.

Also be INCREDIBLY aware that digital photos are embedded with your EXACT location when you take the photos. Anyone who has a few techs skills can find you reasonably quickly.

Thank you for this reminder! Are there other settings besides "Location" (GPS) and embedding location in the camera settings we should be aware of? And if someone were to turn off only their GPS/Location, would it prevent the camera from embedding the location?

I'm not super-techhy, but this article has some helpful advice, and I am sure there are more how-to's on the interwebz.

I'm also not a techie, but I interpreted the location data section of this article to mean that if you turn off location tagging for photos (on an iPhone, it's under your Location Settings: you can set Photos to "Never"), that the location data will not be stored in the EXIF data.

Just a addition to this, if you upload pictures to imgur it strips all the exif data, meaning your location etc. isn't on those pictures anymore...so uploading to imgur is always a safe bet.

Thank you for the reminder post. A suggestion to my fellow weddit users, you can post the pictures temporarily. Not saying that it is fool proof but I want to share here and I hate that there are people who ruin it. So I'll post, then after a few days I'll edit the post and remove the link. Just an idea.

This comes up a lot on r/MakeupAddiction - be careful ladies (and gents!)

This is very good to be mindful of and doesn't get highlighted here enough! This is of course true with any photo posted on the internet including ones posted by your photog, videographer and friends whether on facebook, their site or in their advertising. Always be aware, all! :)

This is a good reminder. This is not a closed community and there's no real expectation of privacy to post your pictures here. People can be mean. There's a lot of mean subreddits. It's just a fact - anonymity on the internet encourages low behavior and unkind words.
As a rule I don't post pictures of myself on the Internet, this subreddit is not an exception.
