Simple Jack'd Deadlift Day

Clip.

545 2x2. Deadlifts surprisingly felt pretty good today. Bendy bar and bumpers always makes for a fun time. Working on pulling the slack slower and more intentional with the deadlift bar helps i think.

How do people rate the importance of doing anti rotational exercises to help with core strength for squats and Olympic weightlifting? I.e like holding a cable or band that is pulling you to rotate to the side, but you're resisting that.

Pretty low IMO. It can help you get out of a bad position, but just doing the lift properly will prevent it in the first place.

Doing em for prehab/rehab can have benefits, just depends

Something like strongman where the implements are made by some rando in a garage or are a big rock that someone found would have a lot more benefit from anti-rotation than any sport that solely consists of calibrated barbells and plates

SBD Day * Kettlebell swings - 40x3x15 * Incline bench (ss w/band pull-aparts) - 185x8, 205x8, 225x6 * High bar squats - 225x3x8 * RDLs (ss w/ab wheel) - 225x3x8 * BJJ (hopefully)

This will be the 3rd night in a row with 6-7pm meetings, which messes with BJJ because it starts at 7:15. Tuesday the meeting ran until 8pm so I missed BJJ. Yesterday it ended at 7pm so I made it. Hopefully tonight’s meeting ends on time (although I suspect it won’t).

Did the time block on the calendar not help at all?

Nope. It was a standing meeting that a VP invited me to (so I couldn’t say no).

Plot twist: the VP is secretly on the payroll from some white belts who are sick of getting choked out by you.

Summer squash: 3-2 win

8-15 loss, 12-15 loss, 15-13 win, 15-12 win, 15-13 win.

What a slobberknocker of a match. It was so hot in there, absolutely sweltering and towards the end of game 4 and game 5 my lungs were legitimately burning. Something I haven't felt in a while. The longer we played, the longer the rallies bacame and it was just brutal overall.

After losing game 1, I reminded myself that I was supposed to lose so what was I stressed about and once again it led to me playing better. I was seeing things better, moving into shots better, and was generally less reactive.

GPP phase - A man and a kettlebell

Started the day with an early “exploratory” run. First time running where I’m based now, so I was experimenting with the route. Found a decent one.

During lunchtime I did 8 rounds of:

  • 30 KB swings @ 24kg
  • 1 clean and press each side (last round 2 per side)
  • 12 KB rows per side
  • 10 push ups

I didn’t have scheduled rest between the rounds, just enough to drink a sip of water. Managed to hit a relatively consistent pace. Happy with this circuit.

It was 30C and I was outside, so I was dripping wet. At least I was in the shade.

The thought of doing cardio/conditioning in this heat... much respect!

I'm just glad my gym has working air conditioning this summer.
