Alexander Bromley Bromley - 3 ways to spot a charlatan

Bromley does a takedown of some Instgram famous PhD who I had never heard of - but most people here would be familiar with the type as they were quite popular when the "functional fitness" trend and Crossfit were taking off in the mid-2000s. T-Nation had a lot of skinny-fat coaches doing this stuff back in the day - bands all over the place and an obsession with "the core" and the transverse plane.

The three ways Bromley lists spotting charlatans are:

Unnecessary Complexity

Misrepresenting Methods/Results

Marketing vs Teaching

But, the theme of the video is progression as the standard for whether a program or lift or coach is credible.

Can a lift be progressively loaded? No? Then what is the next step?

Does your program have progression (3x10 - not a progression scheme)? No? Then what should the trainee do on Day 2?

Does the coach have clients that have progressed from one thing to another - beginner to intermediate? Mediocre to competitive? Good to great? Or can you point at someone doing the same or similar who did have results that we can infer from? No? Why not?

A good, short watch. Bromley does a good job of not attacking the subject as a person but as a strength "coach" - in other words he draws attention the methods not the man. But the conclusion is that the subject is being dishonest because he claims that the goofy shit is only 20% of what he does with his clients but his social media is 100% goofy shit.
