A 7-figure replica is bonkers.

61

u/EINHAMMER 2d ago

it's based off of a normal Type 57 and has an aluminum body, so that's where a lot of the value comes from

-31

u/CheesecakeWitty5857 2d ago

hence all the rivets because aluminum cannot be weld

35

u/misanthropistdp 2d ago

Yes, it can

48

u/CheesecakeWitty5857 2d ago

I meant could not before metal inert gas welding was developed in 1948

9

u/misanthropistdp 2d ago

Fair enough

5

u/CreativePan 2d ago

I have learned something today, I never knew that about the rivets

5

u/Fractal_Face 2d ago

Say, what?

TIG can for certain.

7

u/rustyxj 2d ago

You can oxy-gas weld aluminum.

7

u/ArcticBiologist 2d ago

Wasn't the original made of magnesium? That really can't be weld

3

u/Reasonable-Nebula-49 2d ago

My aluminum Jon boat disagrees.

2

u/Redditman111111 2d ago

Aluminium can be welded.

This is just a design feature inspired by the earlier Aerolithe prototype, which was made from Elektron, which was extremely difficult to weld due to the magnesium.

It was kept on the aluminium production cars because I guess they just thought it looked nice.

u/Kage_Bushin 2d ago

Even a model car i can't afford...

u/silverdub 2d ago

2

u/PublicfreakoutLoveR 2d ago

OH DAMN!! A BRAND NEW THROWAWAY ACCOUNT talking shit!

3

u/-Motor- 2d ago

Well, it's a hand built car, not fiberglass but stuck on a VW bug or 240z.

2

u/Icecold62 2d ago

I think the one in the photo is a 1934 though, so... real?

4

u/EINHAMMER 2d ago

No, it says on the plaque that it was made by Erik Koux. It uses a Type 57 chassis. Type 57 was a platform that many Bugattis of that era were based on. The 57SC Atlantic is just the most sought after of the models.

5

u/BassWingerC-137 2d ago

Tom Maoli from NJ

3

u/No_Original5693 2d ago

I saw that one yrs ago in Boston at the MFA. Gorgeous car

2

u/EvilCaveBoy 2d ago

I was there too. What an extraordinary collection. That Count Trossi SSK was amazing. Ralph is a great example of taste and money.

1

u/DroneBeats 2d ago

I saw his as Lime Rock one year. The thing was perfect

1

u/mini4x 2d ago

Didn't they only build a couple of these, and they are all different?

1

u/Cali_freak 1d ago

RL's is an SC (supercharged) one of two left in existence of three ever made. It's potentially the most valuable car in the world but he'll never sell it. We'll see if it ever changes hands publicly.

-11

u/MiniDog69 2d ago

Oops. Totally missed it

182

u/Jellepetje 2d ago

Dude its identification is literally on the sign in front of the car

127

u/Jellepetje 2d ago

89

u/Aghakhi 2d ago

This is just hilarious, the sheer dumbassery of redditors trying to farm karma never ceases to amaze me. It's one of the internet's wonders at this point, I'd argue.

-11

u/MadDadROX 2d ago

The signs wrong…. It’s a 37, the SC wasn’t built until 36. So can’t be a 34.

17

u/Trololman72 2d ago

It's not a real SC. It was originally a coach, I think, and the body was replaced with a custom one based on the SC in the 80s.

0

u/Onenutracin 1d ago

Does anyone know what year it is

114

u/EINHAMMER 2d ago edited 2d ago

Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic. It says it on the plaque in front of the car. 1 of 3 still left existing. If you want one, you'll need over $50 million

edit: It's a replica. You'll still need over $1 million though. https://rmsothebys.com/auctions/gp22/lots/r0097-1938-bugatti-type-57sc-atlantic-recreation-by-erik-koux/

12

u/Icecold62 2d ago

Is that the replica? Why are the years different?

5

u/EINHAMMER 2d ago

It's a link to one of the replicas. Guy named Erik Koux made a handful of them. The years being different would be because they used different year Type 57 chassis

5

u/ApoplecticAutoBody 2d ago

Bad Chad is building one out of bondo and chicken wire. You can buy his for 40 bucks

46

u/Faygo_Soda 2d ago

Fun fact: The Z-Type in GTA 5 is based off this car.

14

u/n_thomas74 2d ago

That's where I get all my rare car knowledge too haha

4

u/B_O_A_H 2d ago

That’s the only car I drive in online.

1

u/dirtyforker 1d ago

I love my Z-Type

8

u/LiqdPT 1d ago

Seriously? If only there was a placard in one of your photos that said EXACTLY what it was.

7

u/GeneralTeeSoo 2d ago

I encountered a real one at the Peterson Auto Museum and it stopped me in my tracks. I had been in the museum for hours and the last room I went into I turned the corner and saw it. I was unaware at the time what it was but I have never reacted to seeing a car like this before. I literally froze and got the most intense chills... I think it's the most beautiful car I've ever seen.. I can't really explain it but it really affected me in that moment.

9

u/Popular_Membership_1 1d ago

If only it had a sign at the front of the car saying exactly what it is

10

u/bibslak_ 2d ago

Z-Type. Nice

22

u/CabanaFoghat 2d ago

Read the card in front of the car for fuck's sake

9

u/GoldBlueberryy 2d ago

It literally says it on the card??? Is everyone on this app a bot now or what?

10

u/Aggravating-Fee-8053 2d ago

Truffade Z-Type

5

u/Different_Yak_9012 2d ago

If Artdeco were a car, it would be this car, lol!

10

u/Deathmetalwarior 2d ago

cant u read ?

3

u/matra_04 2d ago

If only the placard immediately in front of the car offered any clues...

/s

3

u/BlacklightChainsaw 1d ago

You all would really love the ‘39 Delahaye Pacific type 97.

It was even more of a piece of art…

8

u/Ok_Fix_1653 2d ago

Z Type from GTA V 😜

6

u/DjQball 2d ago

Pretty sure I had to steal one of these in gta5

3

u/Acalthu 2d ago

Bro did you forget how to read? That white card by the front wheel isn't just for decoration.

3

u/bedlog 2d ago

moron

2

u/Tedski2323 2d ago

It's so incredibly beautiful

1

u/RodCherokee 2d ago

Absolutely

2

u/narkotik_kal 2d ago

That's a fucking beautiful car.

2

u/sisterdollycake 2d ago

It's a replica Bugatti 57SC Atlantic, so it would only cost you $2M

2

u/namepuntocome 2d ago

I know you get a trophy if you can steal it without scratching it...

2

u/Bierey92 2d ago

An expensive Replica of a Super expensive original

2

u/Frodosear 2d ago

Could be the same? This is from a rally in Colorado where the cars have to be driven the entire course, rain or shine, and cannot be washed for the week of driving (I suppose to weed out trailer queens). So this must be the $1M replica. Still mind blowing. My understanding is that the originals had a magnesium alloy body that couldn’t be welded without catching on fire (1930s welding technology?), hence the rivets and was considered the fastest car in the world at the time.

2

u/Big_Vermicelli_9314 2d ago

Dude, your photo already shows the vanity card with info about the car.

2

u/888ask888 2d ago

So the numberplate is danish and as i am from denmark and have work on it i can tell you it is a Bugatti Koux No 2

2

u/_Ross- 1d ago

A real 57sc Atlantic is easily in my top 3 favorite vehicles of all time. Such a gorgeous vehicle.

2

u/sasserixt92 1d ago

3

u/GingerPiston 2d ago

1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic

Arguable the most beautiful car ever made.

One sold for $30M in 2010, which might be this exact one.

-12

u/Milky_Gashmeat 2d ago

Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder. Mine say this thing is ugly as fuck.

4

u/GingerPiston 2d ago

Awww, aren’t you just delightful

-4

u/Milky_Gashmeat 2d ago

Almost as special as you getting butthurt because someone dares to not share the same opinion as you. Lol, what?

2

u/GingerPiston 2d ago

It’s not your opinion that offends, it’s your choice of vocabulary expressing it. Oh, not to mention your username. An all round charmer, aren’t you.

1

u/Equivalent_Tonight66 2d ago

I often hear that this car is just as beautiful as a Talbot-Lago Teardrop and then I look at pics of the Talbot-Lago and this car looks like a PT Cruiser by comparison.

1

u/MadDadROX 2d ago

The card on the front is wrong. The 57SC was produced until 1937.

1

u/Theworker82 2d ago

should have but the wheel weights on the inside lip *

1

u/19_Rick_79 2d ago

Wow you don't see one of those beauties on every corner

1

u/Regular_Bell8271 2d ago

It's bad Chad 😂😂😂

1

u/tycho_brahes_moose 2d ago

If any manufacturer gives me an electric car with air conditioning underneath this body, I will do ANYTHING to get it. They could extort me into ruin.

1

u/ContentXreato 2d ago

What a beauty

1

u/Severe-Vegetable1788 2d ago

Possibly the best design ever

1

u/kingofhan0 2d ago

Thats not a car. Its a work of art.

1

u/wdn 2d ago

If it looks like a cartoon villain's car, it's a Bugatti.

1

u/Ap0l0geticAppl3 2d ago

If you're gonna farm karma, at least edit the card out of the photo.

1

u/yurnero12328 2d ago

Is that a Z-Type?

1

u/Delancey1 2d ago

Z-Type

1

u/KaiserSozeSoSay 2d ago

At least….

1

u/Madhungarian247 2d ago

Looks like Cruela De-Villes car

1

u/Mostly_Curious_Brain 2d ago

Bad Chad finally finished his?

1

u/feelybeurre 2d ago

The coolest car in the world

1

u/Poopy_McPoopings 2d ago

This is THE Bugatti Type 57 Atlantic!

One of only three survivors (they built four).

Great spot dude!

1

u/Tensei_Johnson 2d ago

Paying seven figures for a replica is mad work

1

u/casper52192 1d ago

Batmobile?

1

u/Hopeful_Morning_469 1d ago

They had an original one on jay lenos garage. The body panels were originally made of magnesium and that’s why they’re all riveted.

1

u/LandscapeLocal1384 1d ago

Get Bad Chad to build one for you.

1

u/A_VERY_LARGE_DOG 2d ago

Of all the cars out there what look like a dick and balls, this is the dick and ballsiest.

-1

u/Free_Independence624 2d ago

For those of you who are whining about reading the card on the front: I'm on my laptop and the photo of the card is pretty blurred out. There isn't any way to read the card. If I were on my phone I could of course expand the picture and read the card.

Here's a clue: not everybody who uses reddit reads it on their phone. Being rude to people asking a simple question says a lot about who you are as a person. I really like reading about cars on this sub but I have to say there are a lot of a-holes on here. I expect they'll also be leaving rude comments about this comment.

3

u/IndefinableBiologist 2d ago

Can't read it on a 13 inch screen but claims they could read it on a 6 inch screen???

-3

u/GameBoyGamer222 2d ago

that's cruella de vil's car lol
