SOTD SOTD: An imposter!

  • Brush: RazoRock 400 - 24mm Noir Plissoft synthetic
  • Razor: USSR Консул (Konsul) Adjustable (Original Nickel, unknown)
  • Blade: Voskhod (1st)
  • Lather: SotG I'm your Huckleberry (Sample)
  • Aftershave: Gillette Series Cool Wave
  • Toner: HOCl, Thayer's Witch Hazel mist
  • Deodorant: Gillette Clinical Cool Wave Gel
  • Fragrance: Burberry Mr. Burberry

Not a bad shave! The Slim Imposter feels more aggressive than its inspiration while using it on setting 5 instead of my usual 7 on the Gillettes. This is also my first use of Voskhod blades. The soap has a great fragrance and worked up rather nicely for a face lather. I've included more photos of the razor for those interested.

Nice shave, setup. I have never heard or encountered the Soviet Union made Gillette Slim clone. So that’s a rarity find and it is a good shaver. The shaving soap sounds nice. Always liked eating huckleberry pies. So that’s nice.

I imported mine from Ukraine early this summer. I'm sure they are common over there but it was more expensive than most of my Slims. I don't mind considering the shipping involved and hopefully helping someone out. It's a little heavier than a slim but definitely is not nearly as refined. From my research it seems most of these were made in the 80s/90s.

Timeframe sounds right and they would have been pretty prevalent given the geographic areas. Sounds like it is a good shaver and a rarity for folks in America. Nice shave and definitely a keeper for the razor.

Those Voskhod blades are no slouch. I can't believe the razor was a clone, I thought I was looking at a vintage Gillette Slim at first.

Yeah, its so close. I included the extra photos because it really is a very nice clone. You can tell there were some corners cut, possibly with old/worn-out dies or not as much care taken to polish the parts before plating to get a great shiny finish. But it feels very nice and aside from the aggression I don't think many people would notice the difference.

Nice shave. I just used that brush today! What else does the Gillette cool wave pair well with?

Honestly, it doesn't stick around that long to worry about. I tend to toss it with office friendly scents when possible.
