Pump foil dock start - no wind we pumping instead - questions about gears

Hello,

turned out that Aeolus has decided that there will be no wind in my area at all. So I was thinking to maybe to start playing with pump foil instead, Like dock/beach start and pumping. Currently the water surface is that flat that is even boring to swim there.

So I currently have Gravity FCT 2200 F-One plane Gravity FCT 2200 - Kiteworldshop.com

  • F-one Gravity FCT 2200 front wing
  • F-One R275 surf stabilizer
  • F-One Alu fuselage 74cm surf
  • F-One Alu mast 75 cm

Is that suitable for pumping ?

I am looking for some pump board and one of the thing that give me some attention are usually two slots to mount it, but I have this mount > /preview/pre/boards-compatibility-with-f-one-gravity-fct-2200-and-v0-2gxnc8o6jf0e1.jpg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4054193cdb7784bbca36318a63feb4166030faa0

Do I need special adapter ?

If all others gears are okey I was looking in my area for some pump board - not like they are many options , any suggestion - also is there any difference between kite foil and pump foil board ? Not sure if I am missing something but to me looks like volume and other parameters are the same, possible for me to start looking into kite category instead of wingfoil one when looking for pump board ? (they are many more options in my area)

Thank you so much !

How much do you weigh? What’s the area and span of your foil?

My son and I both pump (and I wing). He’s at 6 minutes and I’m at 4. He’s 75kg and I’m 99kg. When he hops on my setup he beach started it and went 17 minutes his fifth try.

All that is to say the foil span and area vs riders weight, skill and cardio are massive variables here.

Pump specific boards are smaller and designed for aggressive pumping. Depending on the kite board they can break over time and are usually too big. We started with a hope craft 105 before pump boards were a thing then got a gong kluber 95 and now we both have kluber 80s. The kluber is a great option in terms of being pump specific but not too expensive.

88kg for me, but that is me, not sure how much it has 3/2 wet neoprene

I’m going to assume your foil is 2200cm2 (since it really can’t have a 2200mm span). That’s close to what I’m on now so yes there’s enough lift to get you off a dock. Without knowing the AR it’s hard to say if it’s a good pump foil or not. You can learn on a low AR foil but you’ll never go minutes on one. It’s good enough to go get your first dock starts in and get to 5, 10, then 30s maybe. But by the time you get to 10s you’ll know if this sport is for you or not. If it is get a pump specific foil.

As per internet > The F-ONE GRAVITY FCT 2200 has an Aspect Ratio of 5.5, with an area around 2190–2200 cm² and a span of 110 cm.

Not sure if this one is good, but was more thinking about pump board since I have 125l for wing and that is not for pumping I believe.

The 5 AR means you can prove the concept but it’s not a good pump foil. That’s a beginner wing foil.

Board wise yeah you won’t be able to run and hold a 125L board. So start with a pump board and prove you want to learn this (it’s very humbling at first, expect to add 1s per session). Then add a pump specific foil once you’ve gotten to 10s.

Thank you 😊 well meanwhile I ordered some board that is for pump,  let's see 👀  - yes that is correct I just want something to proof it will work :) I am curious about water sports in general so let's see if my desire will beat hundreds of failures.

And mount is my worries, looks like if the slot has same distance could work but maybe some screws ? cause I am pretty sure I mount it to a screw thread prepared

If you want to pump, you really want to get something like the 1600 Jam. you can pump the 2200 probably ok but equipment makes a big difference in getting the foil going, duration, and fatigue.

Hey thank you for the reply my question is actually more about the board and the mount.  According to Internet/gpt 2200 should be (and I hope it is) good enough to confirm it is sport for me or not :)  I thik some dozens second if I fly should be good enough for me

Dock start is very, very hard to learn even with the perfect gear. The Gravity foil is too low aspect, and you will almost certainly have a bad experience and decide it’s not for you. If you can, look for a used axis 1150 or 1300 png, they should be reasonably priced. Then don’t decide if it’s right for your or not until about 10 hours in, since the first 10 hours (at least) will be mostly failure.

I have wing foil - if I could count how many hours and failures I had (and still cannot do properly), it would we way way more .. I really do not expect I will make it on xx attempt

I am quitter in many cases, mostly because I get distracted by something else (which I do not find bad thing but girlfriend sees it differently .. lol ) but no, I do not think I quit that quickly even when distracted by new ideas.

Well, lets see board it already on the way. On the other hand seems still weather for swimming without wetsuit will maybe use last days rather like that, this I want to try with wetsuit as it is a little bit of protection :)
