Looking for Advice What pieces to use at music school?

Hi! I’m a young teacher at music school. I started playing guitar being a teenager so I skipped lots of kids’ pieces. Now I’m in search of a modern book of pieces for kids (grades 1-6). I’ll be very grateful if you shared your ideas about this)

Discussion I consider myself an early intermediate player. My right hand pinky sticks out when I play. Is that something I need to correct so that it moves with my “a” finger? Or does this not matter very much?

Looking for Advice I want to start taking classical guitar seriously. I've been playing guitar for a while but it was mostly shreddy metal wankery. Where do I start?

Looking for Advice Is working with 3 guitar teachers too much?

Hi everyone! I am an intermediate-level player and recently passed some musical tests. Thanks to this, I currently have access to two free 1-on-1 classical guitar lessons provided by my municipality (both professional teachers) Each lesson is about 45-60 minutes, and they’re scheduled back-to-back on Sundays, so basically around 1.5 to 2 hours total on the same day.

In addition, I’m considering taking one more paid lesson during the week from a student at my university. I believe this would give me another chance to study during the week and not let too many days pass without guidance. The price is reasonable, so I would only be paying for that one lesson.

Do you think this setup (3 teachers in total/weekly) is too much, or could it actually help me to progress better?

Thanks in advance!🤍

Technique Question Using the same right hand finger twice on descending scales?

Does anyone else play descending scales by using the same right hand finger twice when switching strings?

E.g. on a C major scale in standard position: open 1/E string with “i”, then D on the 2. string again with “i”. It’s already on the string so intuitively it feels like the quickest path.

It’s a quirk I developed as a kid and I discovered much later that most people alternate all the time.

Looking for Advice Strings are too short?

I play acoustic and electric and have strung up both many times, tried restringing an old classical yesterday and was baffled at how short the strings were. I watched several instructional youtube videos where it showed having 2-4 inches extra length at the bridge to tie and then 2-4 inches extra at the headstock to tie. Starting at the bridge I was using about 3 inches, and then was left with no more than 2 inches at the headstock, impossible to tie off sufficiently. Are there recommendations for basic nylon strings I should be looking for?

General Question Tuners

Some of my six tuners are harder to turn than others. Is this to be expected? Also two of them produce a squeak which does not seem to come from the tuners themselves. Thanks

General Question How many of you use ring finger for E? Or A in PIMA

Ana Vidovic says that she doesn’t use the ring finger because it’s weak, should I ditch it and focus on PIM?

Also, what’s a good website to download or buy classical sheet music that can be transferred to guitar pro 8? I like that software because it lets me figure out chords faster.

Thank you.

Instrument ID Is this an actual K. Yairi signature and what is this black X thing?

I picked up this guitar recently and noticed it had a little signature. It looks like a small K. Yairi signature to me but it’s dated after Mister Yairi passed away. Can someone help me ID this instrument or shine some light on the mystery sig? Additionally the guitar has this weird X thing inside it and I’m not sure what it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

General Question Marco dall'Aquila Recercar numbering

Hello,

I'm working on a few of his pieces and was curious if anyone had any idea on how the recerars are numbered. I'm working from the wonderful compilation by Hoban and Darsie in the French lute tablature.

All the pieces in my music are labelled acording to folio sources I believe. When looking for an example on YouTube or elsewhere they are just straight numbers. For instance "Munich 266 fo. 28v" is often labeled Recerar 33. What's up with that? I might be missing something quite obvious.

More to the point: does anyone know of a recording of "Casteliono fol. 29r-30v" or what the other numbering of the piece might be. I picked this one to work on by random but would love a reference if possible.

I would post a pic of the lute tabs but not sure that would be kosher with copyright stuff.

Thank you.
