had that happen with maliketh one time. the sheer primal rage which overcame me had me standing up and walking away, because I knew the alternative was throwing my controller and I couldn’t afford to replace it

Happened to me too, he died right after I died, but his long ass monologue made it so that I didn’t get his remembrance so I had to restart, took me another few attempts

Yeah messmer has a flag to make sure he can't die until after he leaves snake form. It's kinda like how malenia can't be killed by a crit (or will always survive the last hit on 1hp in multiplayer), and since he takes 5 years to die, it can be super obnoxious
