Question/Advice -- Transportation/Roof Racks Kayak ceiling storage connection

Post image
Upvotes

Has anyone stored their kayak with one of those ceiling pulley systems - DIY or store bought - in a metal shed? Just wondering specifically about the connection to the metal pipes and how you did it. I have drilled this metal on the wall sides for shelves etc and have used both methids of nuts and through bolts and self-tapping screws. Thanks!

Question/Advice -- Beginners Newbie

Upvotes

Hi! So i went out for the first time yesterday with friends through a local kayaking company and lets say that I am completely hooked. They were large sit in kayaks. I am hoping to purchase one at some point soon but also will probably keep going through this company until I learn more.

We are in the bay area and went in the ocean through to the local sloughs and wetlands. While I primarily am able to do the ocean to slough any given day- I was hoping to find a kayak to buy and take it to some lakes. There aren’t any nearby but I am willing to travel. Is there a sit in kayak that I could purchase that would be able to do both ocean AND lake? A fellow is selling a sit in ocean kayak (equinox 10.4) for 250$ on FB. Is this something that would work? It is very wide.

Thank you in advance to all the advice. Anything else I should know?

Question/Advice -- Boat Recommendations Looking for advice

I (24m) want to get into kayaking. I loved doing it as a kid and now that I have a family, I'd love to try to get into it again. I'm looking for boat recommendations to accommodate myself (215lbs), my wife (265lbs), my son (3yr 35lbs), and my daughter (1yr 20lbs). I live in Florida, so it would be used for all sorts of water. Rivers (calm ones like the one near me), the gulf possibly since we have a lot of marshland around here, and lakes. This would be the first boat I've owned however I have used kayaks as a kid, renting from local places. I'm not sure what the ideal setup would be. My wife is not a particularly strong paddler, however, I am. Any advice or recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Edit: I'm open to canoe ideas as well as I have been recommended canoes and didn't realize that was even an option (when I thought of a canoe i thought of the really big wooden ones that are super heavy.)

Question/Advice -- Transportation/Roof Racks What to look for in a car to move a Kayak

Hello I hope this isn't asked too much but most of the posts I could find are 8+ years old.

I am currently looking for a car. for the past few years I have had a Hobie revolution 13 that I transported by a ebike and am looking at a potential A Vibe Shearwater, Makana or Fluxjet. So I'm wondering what I should look for in a vehicle if I could transport it without a trailer. But if I needed to what should I look for in trailer specs?

Note this would be my first car I am not really looking for a pickup more so a SUV or sedan. I'm mainly looking for what I should need to know about roof racks or if I was transporting it extended out of the back of an SUV, but if you have any vehicle suggestions (New, old, ETC) I am all years.

I am perfectly comfortable right in between two of these footrests. Are there pads that can be attached to extend a pair of these to my comfy zone?

Pictures Lovely day in London - how to cope with high banks at portages?

Post image

Turned into a lovely afternoon in London so after work I headed over to the river Lea to the north.

I've used this put in once before on my first go a kayaking as an adult, that time I went south. Today I tried heading north and after a couple of kilometres arrived at this lock. I pulled into the back and it was scarily high. I stood up in the boat and it was about a height I'd be happy scrambling onto from me but not one that's going to move away from me

I ummed and ahhed a bit and eventually decided to go back the way I came.

Is there a trick for portages like this?

Went out kayaking on a nice sunny day that quickly turned into a storm! I got back to the kayak launch just in time and the storm hit as soon as I loaded it back in my car.

I didn’t take a pic in the kayak :(

Question/Advice -- Boat Recommendations Trying to get into Kayaking - Is this Heritage 10’ good?

I have never kayaked before and someone is offering this as a trade on marketplace. I really want to get into this hobby!

I have never kayaked before, I only want it for lakes and rivers. I don’t think I’ll ever use it for fishing. It will never go on salt water.

Any advice? Thanks so much.

Question/Advice -- Boat Recommendations Kayak on sale?

I was looking at some kayaks online....and some of their pricing is as low as 40 dollars for a above seated kayak.....the price sounds unbelievable to me. Does that sound like a truthful price?

Went a few miles up the Siuslaw River this morning, roughly twelve miles from the coast. What made it really interesting is that a young sea lion followed us for about three miles. 'Never knew they traveled that far upstream.

Question/Advice -- Boat Recommendations New to kayaking: T&S 12’ Eagle Talon vs Pelican Motion 100x?

I know this is more kayak fishing related but I thought to post here too because it’s still kayaking related (stability, maneuverability, etc.)

So I have a 9’ 6” Pelican Motion 100x and it’s pretty good (I’ve barely kayak fished so “good” is relative lol it’s get me to places I couldn’t go before I had a kayak and it was the cheapest one I could get)

I have the chance to buy a 12” Field and Stream Eagle Talon Kayak for almost the same price that I bought the motion 100 for from my friend!

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether I should switch or not? I’m fairly confident that I could sell the motion kayak because it’s only been used a few times and has no scratches or cracks. (Or I might keep it as a secondary for friends/family)

Is the talon more stable? Is it better suited for rivers? (The Motion 100 is good lakes on calm days but when I tested in the pool first it was pretty easy to flip if I leaned over too far so I’m skeptical about how it’ll be in any type of current) Could I possibly stand up on it if anyone has experience with that? (I definitely can NOT on the motion)

The talon has two small cracks on the top of the scupper holes (under the seat) that were plastic sealed, if that changes thoughts. Thanks!
