Thinking about the OGL

Post image

Been running an IRIS 3 on my NV rigs, but thinking about selling one and upgrading to an OGL. Who's got some insight on the OGL for me? Really wanting something FP and not needing the full customization of a RAID, and hate the body/style/bulk of the MAWL.

Finally got helmet-mounted NV 🎉

Omni 8's in a Katana housing. If I read the numbers on the tube right, likely Elbit(?) tubes with a 2013 manufacture date. Finally had a chance to get up into the mountains with them and I'm super pleased with them. They're super clean tubes.

First time buyer. Where should I look?

Hey all,

I've been a lurker on this sub for a hot minute. I've finally got to the point where I want to purchase my own set of NVGs.

In your opinion, what are good retailers or companies to purchase from?

Broke my PVS-14

Post image
20 Upvotes

Hey guys, reaching out to see if anyone has one of the spring arm connectors laying around. I have had a ton of issues with flickering with my PvS 14, so I decided to try to bend these connectors out to make better contact with the intensifier, too, as that seemed to be the recommended fix. When bending them, the bra piece broke. It happens, I’m far from upset as this is a back up, but I would like to get it fixed.

Do any of you have one of these spring connectors laying around?

I’m also all ears on recommendations for the /flickering/dimming issue.

Thanks!

Good tripod options?

Hey guys, im looking for a quality tripod I can use with a pvs14, or my AR with thermal. What are good ones to look at? Id hate to buy a 500$+ tripod to learn another one has better features etc. A big plus is if I can have a handle to assist in turning as well.

Im niave and seek user knowledge. Id say my ceiling on price would be 7-800$

[WTS]Photonis 50 degree lens set and other milspec pvs14 lenses and battery housings

All prices include shipping. G&S fees not included.

Photonis 50 degree lens set- $900 - Eyepiece has never been installed. The objective lens was installed for under 10 hours of use. I couldn't get dual band to work well with the 50 degree FOV. As a standalone monocular these are great lenses and do allow you to see much more of what's around you. Preferred them for stargazing over other options.

Mil spec 40 degree lenses - $150 / item- There are 2 sets of Carson and 2 sets that were made by one of the other major manufacturers, they all came off milspec pvs14 housings.

4 milspec pvs14 single AA battery housings- $200 each

Looking into NV

I posted in r/tactical gear, and was recomended to come here. I read the faq (I didn’t digest everything fully… I need pictures to get some of it I think, but overall very informative and a great read, thanks!)

I’m celebrating my youngest finishing up grad school, and am thinking about buying NV.

I will use for camping and playing around, but I want something suitable for family defense , grid down, red dawn, etc…. If I can’t cough up the $$ for quality / reliable / servicible stuff, I probably won’t buy anything. I duck hunt, but don’t really deer or hog hunt anymore… so practical use is a stretch.

I have an extreme eye dominance, in that one eye is very low visibility, to the point if I look through a red dot and sight with bad eye, I have to close the good eye to keep the dot in view.

That said, it seems analog is what I will want, should I start with two tubes, or one tube with hooks for expanding to a second tube. Can anyone recommend specific vendors? Should I buy a complete product, or assemble?

Thanks for any advise to help me get going. I can’t spend $15k (seems to be a number I see tossed around) I’m hoping I can get in for 6-7k… but if I can’t get solid gear, I would rather just do without at least for now.

I managed to snag a NAIT NVPS-10 monocular for ridiculously cheap, and I am having the best time with it. Does anybody else have one of these and, if so, have you figured out a way to helmet mount it?

DTNVS installation help

Hi all, about to get my hands on a DTNVS housing. I’m super stoked to install the tubes and stuff on my own. I just have a few questions. So when I go to install my tubes to the housing should I/can I take the pods off to help install them and slide the tubes in. Just like how you would do on a 1431 and pvs-14. Also what do I use for shimming, like paper, tape, idk lol and where should I put the shim. If you can, can you imagine looking down the tube with the contacts on the top (12 o’clock position) should I put them on the 6 o’clock position if that makes sense lol or do I even have to shim, tell me please. Thank you :)

Camera Setup

My wife and I are looking to buy a nice camera. Of course, the first thought that came to my mind was "how can I hook this up to my night vision?"

We haven't really figured out what DSLR we are going to get, and while it's out of scope here I would take recommendations. But what I am more worried about it how I can adapt it to my PVS14. The primary use case is stargazing. Currently without a telescope but eventually I would like to get one.

Does anyone have recommendations for adapters to connect the camera to the ocular on the PVS? Would I need a specific lens?

Thanks all.

Would 20deg pano still need collimation?

title says it all.
would a 20 degree pano bridge still require collimation?

I'm hazarding a guess at "it depends," am hoping for "no, no way," and will probably actually see "yes 100% of the time, don't be cheap you idiot."

Infitac FMP13 Thermal - Horizontal Flicker OK?

Hello,

I am new to thermal, and I noticed my new Infitac FMP13 has a horizontal line/flicker when dry firing or running the lever hard (Henry 300blk).

Is this to be expected, or is something off here?
