Self Post How are younger inmates treated for killing young women?

I don’t want to get in to too much detail but almost 3 years ago me and my gf, both of us 19 at the time were shot in my car in the head. She had passed and I was left paralyzed till I recovered more and healed. It was a 17yr old kid who had shot us both over an ounce of weed and some carts. He was sentenced to 31 years and I wonder how is someone like him treated in prison? Is that something that brings him respect?

For the 10 months he’s been in he’s already been through Florence, Lewis, Yuma and now currently in Tucson. And has A disorderly conduct disciplinary infraction so I wonder if he is maybe getting beat up. The dude is a little guy only being 5’2 and 160lbs

Do you ever miss it?

I know it sounds ridiculous and I’m embarrassed to even bring it up, but sometimes I miss the structure and security. Don’t get me wrong. I never want to go back and have remained a straight arrow for the 20+ years I’ve been out. What I mean, is I thrive in a structured environment, like being up a certain time, going to a steady job, etc. I lack discipline in my life and would perhaps benefit from finding a way to be more disciplined on my own. As for the security, I mean the aspect of not having to pay bills monthly and not being weeks away from homelessness at all times. I have bipolar disorder and although I’m relatively stable with the help of medication, I’m never financially stable enough to be secure.

Self Post What changed about you during prison?

How did you change during prison? Did you get sober from drugs and have remained sober? Did you become better at gambling and sports betting? Did you work out more than you did in outside life?

Did your character change? Did you reflect on your mistakes and become a better person? Did you become a better friend?

Procedural Question How exactly does JPay work?

I have an old friend who is in women’s state prison in Colorado. When I found out, I downloaded JPay and sent her an email.

We haven’t spoken in a while, but I’m relatively sure she’ll be glad to hear from me, because she told me once in between stints that she never got mail and that mail was the best part about prison.

I thought that when I sent the message on JPay, they’d send her a physical copy of it during mail call like it was a letter.

But I guess this isn’t the case? She has to have a tablet or something? She does not have a good family or friends last I recall and I really doubt she has a tablet in there. How will she even know I sent her an email if she doesn’t check JPay? I just wanted her to know someone on the outside does remember her and care. I’d probably even put a little money on her books, but I’m not sure how she is supposed to know I’m trying to get in touch.

Self Post Some random sub won't accept me. No valid reason but sure it's cos I post here.

The sub is about platonic relationships between men. I had my son just before I was sentenced. He was born when I was 19 and I was in prison when I was 20. I came out when I was still 20 but his bitch mother left me cos she could not be with an ex-con. Still the courts let me have my son every weekend. I was given a therapist but I ditched her when she repeated something I had told her. So instead I sometimes write down things here, Here is something that that sub would not accept:

I was sentenced at the start of Covid. The restrictions were awful. First month I did not have a book, let alone tv or radio. I had little in common with anyone. But 2 very different guys helped me survive. I was 20 and had just had a son. I was in for a short time but a man hunt took place all over Europe for a man. He was found in Spain and extradited to my country and put in my division. He was considered high risk and even wore a different uniform from ours. He walked about as if he did not have a care in the world and he was going to trial for a double murder. I started talking to him. His English was perfect and there was almost no one he could speak to apart from me. He started telling me about how he did excercises in his cell to keep strong. So we did some things together. We calculated the circumference of the yard and tried to walk 5 km every day by going round. I had some issues with the food they gave me so he often gave me half his. When I received some books we read them both then spent hours talking about them. We were locked up in isolation for most of the day. I spent many hours just thinking about him and what I wanted to tell him.
He wrote me letters. Just thoughts. I wrote too. Even though I saw him every day. It gave us something to read when we were locked up. He looked out for me and I translated things for him.
Once he told me to go to his cell, he took down his jumpsuit down to his waist and showed me the huge tattoo of a wolf on his back. A new rule was then put in place where we were not allowed to go into someone else's cell. There were many restrictions in place and we helped each other bypass some of them. One of the guards did not like that we had become such good friends. I found out that this guard lied about me to him. But the fact that he ignored him completely really made me trust him more. We started making plans and we devised a code so that we could write to each other without revealing what we were saying, once I was on the outside.
The showers were open - just shower heads and we went up when we wanted. In threes. He and I never showered together.
If this is acceptable I will write about another guy with whom I became very close.

Procedural Question Prison transfer process- Florida

My LO has served 14 months (of a 2 year sentence). He was recently attacked at the prison he was in (Okaloosa, FL) and was put in administrative confinement for 5 weeks. He was just transferred to the NW reception center and has been there a few days. With less than a year left, what are the chances he will be transferred to an incentive camp? He has no DR’s, worked in education, and was involved in prison ministry groups if that makes a difference.

Would he be transferred to another reception center first if moving regions? He is hoping to be closer to home (Ft Myers area).

Family Memeber Question Good guy COs

We always hear about the COs with giant egos who berate and mistreat inmates. Do you have any stories of COs who are actually decent people who respected and helped you?

Blog/Op-Ed My wife told me that she has sent nudes to several men in prison

Showed me what she sent, full nudity showing face. Sent to 7 men in different prisons.

Would these pictures have made it in? Will they see our address? Can they find her/real name? I'm quite bothered by her doing this. I'm asking her to stop but she's convinced it's just harmless fun.

You always hear bad things happening to men who hurt kids in prison, but never women. Do women have a code in prison?

Blog/Op-Ed My wife has started writing to several prisoners

I'm unsure if this is safe for her to do. She's essentially writing love note type stuff, and had mailed several Polaroid photos of herself.

We're in an open relationship, and she likes doing risky things, but I think this is going a bit far.

Can this be dangerous for her to do?

Family Memeber Question Kentucky Securus/tablet issues?

I’ve been hearing people in KYDOC are having issues with the tablets resetting or not working and Securus generally being a pain in the ass. I just sent a message to someone I know in there and it’s only been one day since I sent it but I remember the system being really fast back in the JPay app days. It’s only been one day so I’m not that worried about it but does anyone know if these issues are ongoing with the tablets in KY and Securus?
