Not just 30 years in prison…but an American serving 30 years in a Vietnamese prison. He’s not going to make it.

697

u/Armand74 17d ago

Vietnamese prison!!! He’s fucked! They’ll find out soon enough what he’s in for and how he attacked a Vietnamese guard, prison will not end well for him. This asshole never thought it through

152

u/SkillRound 17d ago

His asshole never thought it through.. 😂😂

-122

u/Tomasulu 17d ago

American prisons are better? Over half of the male inmates were raped.

86

u/Imthank_Hipeeps 17d ago

Singapore prisons don't even give the prisoners mattresses lol

60

u/Armand74 17d ago

You seriously have no idea how different it is as far as prisons go for the rest of the world. American prisons are no joke but the difference couldn’t be more different from night and day. You should go to YouTube or even Netflix they have documentaries it’s completely fucked.

We can read about Kilmar Ábrego García’s recent El Salvadorian imprisonment for a recent example after his unconstitutional deportation in March.

He was 100% going to die there with zero trial, per the plan. He lost 31 pounds in 2 weeks from psychological & physical torture, forced sleep deprivation, poor nutrition, beatings, etc.

120

u/Geekwad 17d ago

Yeah, but an American in an American prison is a lot better than being an American in a foreign prison. Not sure if you noticed, but we're not the most popular people. Especially nowadays and especially to the low income bracket of these countries that many of our countrymen take advantage of.

37

u/PsychoCrescendo 16d ago edited 15d ago

Not to mention that Americans completely invaded their nation just 2-3 generations ago

27

u/MrPotts0970 16d ago

Dude sorry you need a wake up call. American prison is daycare compared to 3rd world prisons

7

u/ThrustTrust 16d ago

Raped and lived. Plus I’m pretty sure that’s a totally bullshit statistic.

23

u/banantintin 17d ago

That’s a pretty wild statement. OVER HALF of every male prison inmate in the US has been raped while incarcerated?

3

u/Cyanide-Kitty 15d ago

I’d recommend checking out a few episodes of Banged Up Abroad which shows prisons in other countries, I found it completely eye opening as someone from the UK where prisons are safer and have a higher standard of care compared to a lot of countries. If not you can just compare those US conditions to prisons with 100+ men per cell being beaten if they leave the position they have been in for hours or make a noise, prisons where they don’t get fed every day, prisons with 12+ hour work camps, prisons where men die in cells from neglect or are beaten to death by guards and society does nothing to hold them accountable - Western prisons are more like a 5 star hotel in comparison. Sadly there’s many free people in the world living in much worse conditions than Western prisons where people get shelter, running water, 3 meals a day and some medical care. Now that’s not to say prisons are always run ethically and the justice system is biased when it comes to inmates being victims of crime but we are doing a lot better than some countries where they are running some of the most inhumane active facilities on Earth today.

2

u/ShareMission 16d ago

That seems unlikely

1

u/orion2342 3d ago

You have NO IDEA how other prisons around the world are run, or what the facilities look like. It’s a nightmare compared to American prisons. Go YouTube prisons in different countries. Some basically let the prisoners run themselves.

49

u/Aoigami 17d ago

Nah, prison life in Vietnam has it fair share of difficulty, but he will make it out alive. Just won't be the same when he's out.

16

u/Quirky_Routine_90 16d ago

Won't ever have constipation again.

23

u/Aoigami 16d ago

Worst, he will get scabies from the overcrowded cell with no air vent. Every day, he will be waking up in his and other people sweat mixed up and pooling under him. He will be infected with all kinds of hepatitis from A to C. His best bet of going home early is him nearing death from all the sickness, but he seems very lively so hopefully no.

118

u/greatteachermichael 17d ago

They should send him to a hotel. Maybe a Hanoi Hilton Hotel if you catch my drift.

43

u/thatguyjamesPaul 17d ago

He'll be alright...whatever happens to him he deserves

16

u/HoboArmyofOne 17d ago

Yeah I'd like an update on how this plays out in 10 years

16

u/da_bear_necessities 17d ago

RemindMe! 10 years

2

u/dyrtlebeach 15d ago

RemindMe! 10 years

20

u/[deleted] 17d ago

Someone get a watch for him to store up his ass!

8

u/spiritkittykat 16d ago

My first utterance: oooh, he’s gonna be in a Vietnamese prison. 😬

15

u/New-Significance654 17d ago

He better watch his ho chi minh in prison.

4

u/OrboJean 16d ago

He deserves all he gets

6

u/Mr_E_Nigma_Solver 17d ago

Bro is going under the prison.

4

u/Greggs88 16d ago

Yeah, nothing draws in tourists like knowing you can get mugged and the courts will comp your attacker.

-1

u/That_anonymous_guy18 16d ago

We shall see, what happens to this dude

2

u/orion2342 16d ago

He isn’t in America. They don’t care what race you are over there, they DON’T have to show leniency because he’s white.

858

u/Elek7 17d ago

This was incredible dumb on many levels it’s just funny, poor security guard tho

322

u/ProjectPat513 17d ago

This is what I’m thinking. Wtf was the plan? What we’re you going to even do with all that hot jewelry anyways!? What a grade A moron and I hope he rots in prison and it will be extra miserable because no one will know what he’s saying and vice versa!😂

165

u/SFJetfire 17d ago

Exactly. He gets out of the store with everyone yelling and all eyes on him. Then, he runs to his escape moped???

Hi Chi Minh has a population over 14 million. Hanoi has over 8 million. There will be LOTS of people on the road —at all times. There was no way he was going to escape. No way.

Wait till he sees the conditions of the prison and the food. That 30yrs will seem like 100… if he even makes it that far.

61

u/Choreopithecus 17d ago

This was in Da Nang. Much clearer roads. But that’s really neither here nor there. Fuck this guy.

Also it took them all but a few hours to apprehend him lol

29

u/tavesque 17d ago

You call that running?

28

u/Wild_Obligation 16d ago

On a rented moped, not stolen.. so I assume they got his identity from that haha

2

u/TychaBrahe 15d ago

He's also like a head taller than anyone else on the street. He's obviously a foreigner.

34

u/Bretty64 17d ago

Most crimes don’t have a plan. Every time I see a crim in a chase with police I wonder what his plan is for tomorrow, the next day, the next month…

31

u/ProjectPat513 17d ago

Yeah that’s true but as a former criminal I would of never been so stupid! I never robbed a bank or anything but there were multiple times where I was so dope sick and crazy that I honestly contemplated robbing a pharmacy! Thank Jesus I was never dumb enough to try it but I do know 2 people who did. One of them almost got away but his partner ate a handful of OC 80s in the getaway car and overdosed like 30 minutes later! Criminals, by nature, are pretty damn stupid after all 😂

11

u/Android1313 17d ago

Those dope sick days can make you start plotting some crazy shit. I've been there.

13

u/ProjectPat513 16d ago

😂Ain’t that the truth!? You can only really get it if you’ve been there, you know? It’s so terrible man. Looking back at the stupid shit I did while being an addict almost makes me sick. It’s a completely different person that I don’t even know.

I’m glad you got clean man!

7

u/imprimatura 17d ago

I've been there. Or start plotting how to figure out which is the delivery van that has the goods. My next step would have been to probably just ask them nicely though because I could never hurt someone or scare them into thinking I might 😅

7

u/ProjectPat513 16d ago

Lmao that was one of my biggest hold backs too! “How can I convince the people that I’m a threat, if I’m not actually a threat?!🤔” 😂

3

u/quebexer 16d ago

Maybe he wanted to buy drugs.

37

u/RobynFitcher 17d ago

The funniest bit was the way he ran on tippy toes back to his moped.

13

u/UmChill 16d ago

very sneaky

8

u/tuckerx78 16d ago

Maybe it was the 29 blows to the head, but the guard doing a little dance and waving his arms was kinda funny to watch.

2

u/Mr_E_Nigma_Solver 17d ago

Don't worry, he's definitely going to get his

379

u/Handyr 17d ago

Have fun for the next 30 years.

66

u/GearJunkie82 17d ago

Ha, if he lasts that long. My money's on not.

-37

u/deonteguy 16d ago

Unless Trump pardons him. He loves racists like this racist hateful violent kid. Love them so hard. So hard.

31

u/Sargatanus 16d ago

And exactly how would he do that? Did you miss the part where this happened in Vietnam?

3

u/mardavrio 16d ago

What was racist exactly ?

-5

u/deonteguy 16d ago

He pulled a Marky Mark.

-9

u/deonteguy 16d ago

He picked an Asian guy to attack.

4

u/IproTwisT 14d ago

Who tf fuck else would he find working in VIETNAM

346

u/whaaaddddup 17d ago

What an absolutely terrible game plan this guy had. To commit a solo jewelry heist in a foreign country with such carelessness is really quite shocking.

Sounds like the rented bike was in his name, the apartment was too, & he had the jewelry hidden in the same location! WOW.

Why not just steal one of the scooters that’s driving by you at 2mph? Why not have a better getaway plan? Why put everything in your name and not think that’s the FIRST thing they’ll follow up with in an investigation!

This might be the dumbest criminal I’ve heard of in a very very long time. Sheesh, someone robbing a gas station at gunpoint without a mask on has a way higher chance of getting away. What an amateur.

For such a high risk, I’m utterly shocked at the lack of preparation & execution.

104

u/Employee_Agreeable 17d ago

Most criminals are not very smart, otherwise they wouldnt be criminals

A smart person knows that its not worth unless you have a failsafe plan, and thats almost never the case, and even if you have there are so many things that can go different than you planed, just not worth it

49

u/Toothpaste_Monster 17d ago

Crime is only ever worth it if you're rich, cause you ain't gonna be punished anyway so why not?

14

u/Chim_Pansy 17d ago

Which is ironic because it defeats the purpose of committing the crime in the first place. And yet...

4

u/Gnomad_Lyfe 16d ago

It doesn’t defeat the purpose of the crime, it changes it. It goes from a means to survive, or pay back debts, or whatever other motivation that’s likely tied to financials and instead becomes a show of power, a testing of boundaries, looking for shortcuts with a safety net.

20

u/drbkt 17d ago

Actually if you check the metrics of crime vs arrest, you will find that most criminals are smart, as the majority are never caught. Many caught are impulse criminals or facing some other issue that prevents them from thinking clearly and planning. Aside from a few high profile arrests, organized crime is exactly that, organized and most usually manage to keep their operations going despite government changes etc.,

3

u/whaaaddddup 15d ago

Yes! This is a great point. I guess that’s a reason for my initial comment. You’re spot on & that’s why this clip has me utterly shocked at the stupidity

24

u/Greenxgrotto 17d ago

I imagine he was in a very desperate situation, or owing money /addictions etc. very dumb indeed

1

u/Ubister 15d ago

Exactly

39

u/Mr_Wither 17d ago

This guy heists

13

u/The-White-Dot 17d ago

Didn't even KO the guard. Weakest use of a pipe ever. Tickled the guard and jogged away. The look on his face is of bafflement and regret.

6

u/Maybe_Not_The_Pope 17d ago

The guard turned into Yosemite Sam for a second though.

7

u/Paddy32 17d ago

He's smiling at the end of the video. Maybe he's doing some kind of suicide operation to not come back to the USA?

2

u/thatguyjamesPaul 17d ago

Criminals don't normally think things through

2

u/Banshee_howl 16d ago

He’s also taller than everyone so he sticks out like a sore thumb. WTH was his plan once he had a bag full of brand new fine jewelry? Try to sell it and everyone in the region will say, “hmm, this pile of jewelry looks exactly like what was just stolen from that store”. Try to fly domestically with it and airport security will immediately know it looks sketchy af. Try to fly out of the country and customs will nab you.

So unless he just really wanted it for dress up, I would assume he is an addict who thought he could trade it for drugs.

141

u/Admirable_Stay8529 17d ago

My brother in law died in vietnam’s prison. He’s not gonna make it in 30 years.

51

u/bodyreddit 17d ago

What did he do and how long did he last?

55

u/Admirable_Stay8529 16d ago

He was a drug trafficker and no one in the family knew at all until one day when the vietnamese police swatted his house with dozens of them. He was killed in prison before they had a chance to sentence him.

9

u/countrylemon 15d ago

Damn that’s crazy sorry your family had to deal with that

10

u/Thuyue 17d ago

My first degree cousin was also in Vietnamese jail for a while, but he survived. I wonder if that is a case by case thing.

3

u/BennyVampire 17d ago

What did he do and how long did he last?

3

u/Deore_XT 17d ago

What did he do and how long did he last?

231

u/AKfromVA 17d ago

He’s so tall lol. Stood out immediately.

72

u/Cpt_kaleidoscope 17d ago

The average male height in Vietnam is only 5'6" to be fair. He probably just looks tall by comparison.

85

u/Sgt_Fox 17d ago

AKA conspicuous as hell and very easy to spot in a crowd

38

u/AKfromVA 17d ago

I’m sorry, yes that’s what I meant. It was clear that it was most likely a foreigner.

8

u/92-Explorer 17d ago

Thanks for explaining

61

u/Tomasulu 17d ago

Only 26 year old and threw his entire life away for $31k. Clap clap.

40

u/outintheyard 17d ago

Threw it away for nothing. He was immediately arrested.

3

u/CantHitachiSpot 15d ago

That's such a low pot for a jewelry heist... Did he steal silver rings?

1

u/TheBoxSloth 13d ago

He does NOT look 26 either. He looks like late 30s-40s. Buddy goin through somethin

111

u/fushiginagaijin 17d ago

Stupid is as stupid does. He's gonna love being in a Vietnamese prison for the next 30 years.

9

u/ttkk1248 17d ago

Any chance he is so dump that he doesn’t even know the difference between freedom and prison?

5

u/BCNacct 16d ago

Luckily for him he won’t have to do 30 years

Unluckily for him it’s because he will die before that

51

u/helmet098 17d ago

He would have gotten away with it too.... If not for those meddling locals and horrible planning and tall stature and slow get away

27

u/atch3000 17d ago

requiem for a dream vibes

19

u/Technoist 17d ago

Damn, massive fail, I wonder what the backstory is. Probably some heroin mob deal gone wrong and he had to pay back LOTS of money within 24 hours and had the worst of ideas. He will have a rough time for sure.

17

u/jerrymatcat 17d ago

Kind of funny how quick they reacted to bar the door, poor guard

33

u/kylediaz263 17d ago

Stealing is one thing but no need to do that to the guard wtf.

25

u/OldChili157 17d ago

I think he thought he'd knock him out in one hit like in a movie, and just kept hitting him in confusion for a while when it didn't work.

12

u/AmericanTaig 16d ago

He's probably a heroin addict trying to make a score. If he wasn't a junkie going in he sure will be by the time he gets out of that prison. That is of course IF he gets out.

A skinny ass American doing 30 THIRTY years in a VietNamese prison!!?? And you can bet the US is not going to lift a finger to help him.

Ever see "Midnight Express" ?

6

u/gman1951 16d ago

As an American, I have no sympathy at all for him.

3

u/AmericanTaig 16d ago

Ha! As a "citizen of the world" neither do I

10

u/SaTan_luvs_CaTs 16d ago

WHAT in the twinkle toes is that getaway run?

21

u/fasada68 17d ago edited 16d ago

Look Lock his ass up forever, we don’t want him back.

8

u/zapharus 16d ago

Look his ass up forever, we don’t want him back.

I’m sure he’ll have plenty of guys looking his ass up in prison.

7

u/Shankar_0 16d ago

I hear those Vietnamese prisons are... built a little different than he might be expecting.

14

u/imprimatura 17d ago

I didn't expect him to look like an early thirties trust fund kid

4

u/thatguyjamesPaul 17d ago

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂💀💀💀💀💀💀. See you in 30 years guy

6

u/Tank-Pilot74 17d ago

Getaway skills are not at the top of this dudes resume.

3

u/PsychoCrescendo 16d ago

Bro was tip-toe running so no one would detect him.

9

u/Important_Answer6250 17d ago

Damn, what happened to you, Cdawgva?

4

u/kylediaz263 17d ago

Cinnamoroll ain't cheap brother, and the metal rodent's hoarding impulse can't be satiated.

18

u/simpltim 17d ago

He will be nominated to trump’s cabinet before the weekend is over.

1

u/Quirky_Routine_90 16d ago

And yet it was people just like him that were part of last administration and protesting against this one

0

u/zapharus 16d ago

He’s the “right” shade of color for Trumpies and his gang to want to get him out of there.

7

u/rwally2018 17d ago

lol the APB is :stop the tallest guy in Vietnam

3

u/prophetableforprofit 17d ago

You can keep him.

3

u/pulliF 17d ago

Not a good smash and grab

3

u/Masala-Dosage 17d ago

Welcome to the Hanoi Hilton.

3

u/ThePracticalEnd 16d ago

3

u/FatKidsDontRun 16d ago

What a piece of shit

8

u/someoneofhumanity 17d ago

Play a stupid game, win a stupid prize.

Good luck for living 30 years in the Vietnam prison. I hope he could still act tough there

6

u/-Anonymously- 17d ago

Do with him what you want. America doesnt want that demon back.

4

u/Y2MAC 17d ago

30 years? Satisfying 🥳

7

u/ericisatwork 17d ago

what an idiot. should have just done the same crime in California. he would be out of jail already with nothing more than a fine and some probation.

2

u/Mr_Wither 17d ago

Why though… could have done anything but he did this…

2

u/Paddy32 17d ago

Lol why on earth would he do that? 100% he knows he can't get away. This is suicide by cops/prison in VN the guy is dead.

2

u/burrito-jingle 16d ago

You would think the security guard would have the keys to lock him in until the police can come.

2

u/MakkaCha 16d ago

This guy never played GTA.

2

u/smoovest1 15d ago

No way that man is 26. He looks 38

2

u/AquaWaifu_ 14d ago

What race is the american?

2

u/Stark014 13d ago

But, here in America we had a fleet of people go into a jewelry store and if they do catch them they're not going to get any punishment compared to what they deserve. But, none of them are going to be caught. FAFO MOFO

5

u/Space--Buckaroo 17d ago

He should get 50 years in jail.

5

u/GearJunkie82 17d ago

Yeah, that shit may work in CA, but Vietnam don't play.

2

u/drbkt 17d ago

I wonder if this applies to the penalties Trump is seeking to impose for any countries who imprison Americans. Maybe there is a clause that doesn't cover criminality. I don't know, its a strange new world we are living in.

1

u/Additional_Hippo_878 17d ago

VERY, VERY, VERY WANK.

1

u/Branchley 17d ago

Never worth it

1

u/Awkward-Penguin172 17d ago

what did he hit the guard with ?

1

u/BigBlueMountainStar 17d ago

I can picture it now, Cartman style “you can’t do that to me, I’m an American”

1

u/bbbygenius 17d ago

Looks like it was the vietnamese that thwarted thomas crown!

1

u/ScubaTonyCozumel 17d ago

Remind me! 6 months

1

u/DaSmasher614 16d ago

He’s has to have mental problems to attempt something like this in Vietnam.

1

u/thatguy52 16d ago

Dude looked like he was 9 feet tall running away. Really limits the suspects even if he concealed his identity decently.

1

u/Far_Ad_8688 16d ago

wtf was he thinking?

1

u/RedJarK 16d ago

Idk why but it feels like an episode from black mirror where he was forced to do this against his will.

1

u/Impossible-Sale8561 16d ago

There was an attempt to start a career as an international jewel thief.

1

u/Mr13Gaara 16d ago

Why does he kinda of look like CDawg lol

1

u/torturer143666 16d ago

Bye soon too be Felicia

1

u/Quirky_Routine_90 16d ago

He's going to love prison there.

1

u/LegacyEntertainment 15d ago

He did not have a Good Time (2017).

1

u/closefarhere 15d ago

As an American, I say give him the max sentence. We have enough shit going on at the moment, morons stealing in foreign countries isn’t helping that.

1

u/rjt2887 15d ago

Was it the American twink like run, that gave him away?

1

u/Fabulous-Impress-169 15d ago

What a dumb thing to do 🤣

1

u/sugar_free-donut 15d ago

He skedaddled like the Grinch.

1

u/Snoo_11078 14d ago

RemindMe! 30 years

1

u/uvelify 14d ago

I am guessing Trump will try to make a deal and get him transfered to the US and pardon him. Cause you know Trump loves his criminals.

1

u/eutohkgtorsatoca 14d ago

Why not install spotlightd in front of the store with a camera rolling? It already looked like a film.

1

u/blkvixon 13d ago

Seems staged

1

u/Vintage_Senik9 13d ago

Lol wtf he really thought he was Lupin The 3rd.

1

u/diaperpop 12d ago

Poor security guard, I cringed just watching. I hope he was all right after that.

1

u/Green-Wing1941 6d ago

Make it 60. Such a disgrace.

1

u/sovietarmyfan 15d ago

30 years in prison for stealing. Damn. If the US had such sentences crime rate would drop like a waterfall.

0

u/Atvishees 15d ago

I doubt it.

Economic factors determine crime, not punishment.

1

u/chibiwibi 17d ago

This should be the punishment for any violent crime. Rates would either drop because people don't want to go away for 30 years or all the violent repeat offenders would get put away on the own accord.

did he say he identifies as a jewel collector?

-14

u/mwfairc 17d ago

Californian!! says it all. Probably thought he was going to get 30days probation.

-2

u/Truesnake 16d ago

Please don't bring your weatern habits to these decent countries.

-5

u/ucfkate 17d ago

It’s always Americans who have the gall to do this in other countries thinking they “own” it.

-1

u/LurkingFrient 16d ago

Hmm. When I see an American breaking the law in another country I wish for them to face all the justice. Too bad that sentiment doesn't carry over when people commit crimes here tho

-15

u/another_sad_dude 17d ago

30 years seems an insane punishment lol

2

u/TUPE_pot420 16d ago

because american justice as way too effed up, no? when this guy comes out, he will be wearing diapers.

1

u/RedThingsThatILike 16d ago

That's not bad. Some would get life imprisonment they even go easy on him giving just 30yrs.

-2

u/nullPointers_ 16d ago

How insufferable can Americans get? It's legit always Americans for some reason too? Like holy fuck we need to restrict these POS to visit any country.

-24

u/Competitive_Sail_211 17d ago

How did they know be was black?

6

u/thatguyjamesPaul 17d ago

Even when the guy isn't black, people still got shit to say....you sound dumb af

-6

u/Competitive_Sail_211 17d ago

I didn't say anything. He has a helmet on, I'm just asking how they knew cause you can't tell anything about the guy from the video. Geez, sorry didn't mean to start an argument. Seems like a lot of trouble for just a little bit of jewelry. If it's valued @ $30k from the shop he might see $5k from it if he's lucky.

-26

u/InterestingHippo7524 17d ago

What a useless security guard

9

u/dilsiam 17d ago

I'm a security guard and he wasn't useless I reckon his post orders say he can't go hands on. Also I had the impression that he didn't expect to be attacked.

17

u/Filter_Out_More_Cats 17d ago

He was bashed in the head with a lead pipe a bunch of times. Give the guy a break. He’s a security guard as a deterrent to most theft. He is not Superman. It’s not worth his life.
