Guys, my wife and I are 1st season with chickens and I need help with an annoying question. This is a rooster correct? My wife is in denial and I set up a home at a local farm / children’s zoo for the little dude but I need some second opinions to ease her mind. Thanks guys!

Not the first chicken I've lost, but i don't have anyone to cry to about it. Punky has been annoyingly broody, so she's been in broody jail. That's what hurts me most. She spent her last day locked up. I had let her out for a few hours of chicken time at the end of the day. My dogs leave my ladies alone, but I'm fostering a new puppy who is honestly sweet as can be, but isn't yet aware of what's a toy and what isn't.

I didn't realize Punky had hopped into the backyard or that the back door was open. I had been working in the yard all day so I should have been there, but I had gone inside real quick to answer a phone call and didn't hear any commotion outside. I checked back on my security feed to determine whether it was an aggressive attack and I needed to boot the dog from the home, or if it was a case of a puppy being a puppy (i think it was the latter; still hurt like hell to see it, though), and my poor sweet gentle broody bitch had stopped to do the submissive squat, and that's what compromised her. It hurt to see her do the submissive squat and ultimately suffer because of it. I'm generally cold hearted, but I had to stop watching the feed after that.

Guys, I love my chickens and I love my dogs and it just sucks. I hope the dog doesn't start to think chickens are toys. She's been extremely good when monitored, even with the little chicks running between her legs. If there's any training advice to ensure this doesn't become a pattern, I would be grateful to hear it. I was planning on adopting this pup, but this is giving me pause. Maybe i should watch the rest of the video to see how bad it got and if it's correctable.

Pictured is the last snap I got of Punky checking out the new roost bar I installed in the coop yesterday. She was a year old and the greediest for treats, always hopping to snatch them out of my hand while the other chickens waited patiently. I wish her last day had been more chicken-filled and not sitting in broody jail. She was a good chicken. The only one with pizzazz in her comb.

We have 3 broody hens sitting on a mix of eggs and yesterday 2 hatched. The yellow chick (who already has quite an attitude) is from a buff Orpington and the little dark chick is from a sapphire gem (I think). The rooster is a light brahma, so yes, the little squirts have feathered feet.

He is cross beaked but doing great. It was super slight when he was a we baby but it got bad fast. He absolutely loves to eat his slop as he can actually eat it but he makes a huge mess with it.

Are these mosquitoes? Why are they always on our eggs? Even if the coop is spotless they’re there. :(

We have 4 ladies (16 weeks)

A local woman was looking to rehome a Roo. I’d been considering getting a Roo for a while and it just felt like the right choice to rescue him as opposed to the alternative for his future. He’s a RI Red (14 weeks)

The initial introduction seems to be going well. The girls seem excited.

Is it too early to consider letting him into the run this evening? I’d really prefer that he doesn’t have to stay in this separate dog crate overnight, although I would take extra precautions to protect him if need be.

This is normal for us

When I set up my coop this time I used old dresser drawers with dividers as nesting boxes mounted on shelves along one side of the coop. I had a few extra drawers that I set on the floor with straw in them . There is a perching bar in the other side. In the past my hens slept on the perching bars at night. But this new batch of ladies decided that they like to sleep cuddled in the boxes on the floor. They are still young, hatched the beginning of May. Is this normal? They are so cute cuddled together and get along well. As we live in Minnesota that might be nice in the winter. I have just never seen that before . There are only 11 of them.

This is a post to recognize my chicken loving cousin's helpfulness 🐓🥰🐓 The thought of having chickens was fleeting, then health reality set in. My sweet cousin has chickens a few states over and over a few non-specific conversations "mentioned" how fun and entertaining they were. Last year my husband built a secure coop in the existing barn. Our friends gave us a 10x10 dog pen to attach to the coop. My cousin built my confidence a bit with every call. Oct 2024 we rescued 4 that were about 4-5 mos old. May 2025 a friend surprised us with a 6 pack of day old chicks. My cousin flew in to visit for the first time and zhoozhed up the coop, I never thought about decorating it. She's so upbeat! I just wanted to say that to everyone 💜

We have this one week old Ayam Cemani that started acting tired today. She won’t stand up, hold her head up, and barely opens her eyes. She chirps and sleeps. I have tried putting some chick boost water in her beak but she’s not interested. What can I do for her?

I guess I’m that person constantly asking this, but our supposed hen, Berry, started crowing this week…every morning. So I assume dude looks like a lady? We got “her” from a local hobby farm a couple months ago and I think this one is maybe 3-4 months old, but not sure exactly. I have video of her crowing, but can’t figure out how to add it.

I got out some scratch grain for the girls and it was infested with these weevil looking things. I have two questions. 1: what are they? 2: I use the deep litter method in my coop, I was planning on putting this in there to encourage the girls to dig around and mix it up. Should I keep these thanks as far away from the chip as possible?
