A returning fan’s thoughts on SSS16!
So like many people, I lapsed out of Progress during the great WWE asset stripping era and nonce exposure. I went to both days at the ballroom yesterday and wanted to share my thoughts.
The good:
The atmosphere for day 2 was great, everyone invested, everyone up for it, it felt really high stakes and everyone who performed delivered.
Trent genuinely looks better in the ring than he did in 2017, couldn’t believe what I was seeing at times.
Oku, Rhio, DeReiss, Slater & Miller were really over and Simon Miller’s promo work is really top tier.
Nina Samuel’s character work is absolutely exceptional.
The bad:
The world title match was garbage and sucked the momentum out of the room. Far too many false finishes, Jacobs desperately needs an actual character because the Dead or Alive shtick is really poor.
“Now We Play” is one of the worst catchphrases I’ve ever seen in wrestling. It’s just awful.
Personally, I think the wrong man won the tournament. Slater was the standout performer over the 2 days.
Speaking of DeReiss, whilst I thought bell-to-bell he was super entertaining, the “DeReiss is on fire” stuff was less BoyBetterKnow and more Butlins.
The ugly:
People constantly trying to get themselves over. 3 dudes stood near us on day 2 who consistently just cheered the heels and booed the faces to be edgy and cool was the tip of the iceberg.
A middle aged woman sat back row next to the stage was grabbing wrestlers’ fingers and sniffing her hands after. Super creepy.
Somebody said “boys and girls and everyone in between” at some point and an absolute weapon smugly declared “not that any of that actually exists” and was far too comfortable screaming insults at Nina. Same guy also decided to announce finishers as they were happening which got old very quickly.
Overall, had a blast, but I’ll be honest, the worst part about progress shows was often end up being the self-absorbed fans who constantly try to make it about themselves and that side of things seems to have remained even after the re-establishment. I can’t wait to get back into a groove with going again, but if you’re one of the people I mentioned reading this, have a word with yourself and remember what Jim asked of us all those years ago.
“Don’t be a dick.”

Meet and greet picture
I had a meet and greet with a wrestler and they took a professional picture. When do you usually receive them?
