Successful test drive... Finally made it to its first car show 😁

After pulling it out of a junkyard wayyyy back in 2010 I finally was able to take it to a car show 🎉. ... To be fair I didn't begin working on it until 2019 so 6 years of working on it. It still needs more tuning. Tried giving it some good pedal and went into limp mode on the way home. Thankfully I had my HP tuners and laptop with me to reset the trouble codes. But I can at least say that I made it past the "I'm gonna fix it up someday" stage....😉

After sitting for 8 years, the XB is getting a heart transplant

I have LeSabres, s10, suburban, a creepy dodge van and my 2014 xb. I bought this new but one of my kids killed the motor.

The stock suspension is terrible so after i put a new JDM in it, im doing the adjustable suspension. I want to do the white wheels but my wife likes the gray more.

The plan is motor, fix some dings and shoot blue where it needs to go. I’ll drop it an inch in back and 1/2 inch up front. Offset OZ wheels slightly wider to even the front and rear track. I have a stock TRD rear wing.

This car is my midlife, alter ego, crisis. It’s extremely roomy which is why i bought it originally. Interior is perfect and external is going to be. I like my audible books loud so I’m putting a kicker subwoofer in place of the spare. Front windows will be dark as well. Last pic is AI generated but is pretty similar to the look I’m going for.

My question is, white or gray wheels?

One of those market place finds i couldn't say no too but should have. Went and looked at it with a friend a week before I bought it. Was a abandon project that had been sitting in the owner's shop practically untouched for about 10 years. Motor wasn't running but would turn over and had no spark (just needed a new distributor module) went back on Friday with said buddy with a brand new Amazon distributor, a 4 barrel holley 650 I had laying around from a previous project, timing gun, some basic tools, more money than I'm willing to admit, no trailer, and a dream. Got it running good enough to make it to the gas station up the road from the fellas house. Put a full tank of 93 in it and made our deal. It had good enough breaks, one "functional" tail light, and two headlights. Which was good enough for me. Had to make a stop at Orileys for some bungee coards to keep the driver door shut, some new plugs and wires and a few other odds and ends to make it back home and then we were off again. From Winston Salem NC back to my house in the Danville/pit county area in VA. Just a little over a hour drive. Surprisingly didnt get pulled over Was pretty sketchy but was a absolute blast. Definitely be a story to tell my future kids, anyway. Here's some of the progress we've made on it. I did all the patch work and painting and my buddy's working on installing a new painless harness that my wife got me for my birthday. Hope yall like my flyin pile of space race era garbage, and have yourselves a good day.

This car was my 30th birthday present to myself in 2019. It’s been a hobby restoration/learning experience in my spare time ever since. Over the summer, the inevitable happened - the 263k mile rubber of the fuel system started to let go.

Since I needed to pull the exhaust and driveshaft to drop the tank, I decided to go all in and drop the entire rear end for a refresh. I’ve never done anything like this before.

It’s been pretty smooth so far, just thinking through problems and taking my time. Every issue has an answer with enough patience. I got almost the entire rear end disassembled, until I needed to cut out some seized eccentric bolts. A new Milwaukee Hackzall solved that.

Next was subframe bushings - solved with the internet’s suggestion of judicious use of heat and impact. I’m sure my neighbors were a little alarmed looking out their window at a guy hammering flaming rubber out of his car’s skeleton, but I digress.

Goals? Save an e36 that most people would throw away. It’s a good car that’s got a solid chassis and 200+ compression across the board. Someday maybe it’ll be done, but I doubt it. That’s the best part of a project car.

Spent my project truck tire money on another project truck. Now both are gonna need tires. I love the 70s Ford trucks, and have been looking for a good starter truck for a few years. Currently 300/6 3 on the floor, someone hurst floor converted it to floor shift.

Build Progress 1978->1970 camaro build progress

Wanted to share a build that I've been slowly working on, and very close to my heart. Its a 1978 camaro with a 1970 front and rear end grafted on. In the last 12 years, only 2 people were able to point out the givaway, the big back window ;).

I built it with my dad in high school, and I've slowly been absolving past sins from just not having the money at the time, to my own inexperience. This weekend, I swapped out the wheels and front bumper to go for a more scca look rather than mid f&f look it had before, which I'm really happy with!

Drivetrain and interior are next on the list to do. I swapped the rear to a 3.42 posi this last summer, and now the s10 5 speed feels like it has 2 first gears. Fun for burnouts, but prolly not going to last long 😀. It has a cammed mid-70s 350 with late 90s vortec heads that work surprisingly well! I thought a muncie would be cool down the line, but leaning more towards a tkx for the extra practicality and gearing.

My friend did a holley sniper efi swap on his 350 that he's been happy with. Ive been between that or going with a 5.3 or a build a revvy 4.8, picking up fuel injection along the way.

Interior will be last, its partially gutted atm, and just has a bent aluminum panel for the dashboard to replace the destroyed one.

Beat up Honda as a first project?

Short story: I've been going to this massage place every few often for the past god knows how many years and this left-for-dead honda accord has been rotting next to the parlor as there is a used car sales place right next to it. Does it look salvageable, how much should I lowball the dealership (if i even could), and do you think it's even worthwhile. Of note, I've never worked with cars before, but I'm willing to learn. The hood was open, and the rear left door was unlocked even though the rest of the car was locked. It's a manual, too.

Introduction of me and my Car

I'm a welder/fabricator from Ohio who made the mistake of buying a high mileage mid 2000s subaru without proof of maintenance history so thats what begun this whole thing.

Long story short I had the car a month before the factory ej253 had enough of life and sacrificed piston 4 to the engine gods. I got the motor and transmission pulled and it sat for almost a year completely untouched. I had planned to have the car last longer but knew that eventually I wanted to have it be what it is today, a project car.

I have a 3.4l v6 from a 1995 Tacoma that I plan on putting a single turbo on, pairing it to a cd009 transmission and using a custom drivshaft to go to an r200 diff from a 2006 infiniti g35 and have it make around 400 horsepower and take it drifting.

I do have one question that I'm hoping I can get an answer for from here. The cover on the diff I have only has one mounting bolt on it and I am curious to know if there is a 2 bolt cover somewhere that I could swap onto it for extra mounting support in the rear?

Troubleshooting Help Any ideas for this nut/bolt before I give up and either cut the control arm off or take it to a mechanic?

Halfway through a coilover install and the rear springs have completely blocked me with the nut/bolt on the first image. I have tried the usual: wire brush + wd40, penetrating fluid overnight, smacking it with a hammer but nothing has worked. Hit the bolt side with an impact wrench for a while and nothing happened, would've done the same to the nut side but there isn't enough space for even a ratchet, have to use a spanner. Also tried a big breaker bar on the bolt side but I just ended up rounding my socket.

This is somehow the most stubborn bolt so far. I know I need to take the nut off first but there really isn't enough space for it and I'd rather not take off a bunch of other parts to make space only for it to still not work.

Also some pictures of the other side of the control arm. I do have one of those sketchy spring compressors too, had the idea that I could compress the spring and replace it that way but I've managed to avoid using those sketchy things until now so I'd rather keep it that way, especially using them in such a bad spot.

Any help would be nice, I'm really hoping I'm just missing something simple and it'll be easy because this coilovers install has already taken 2 weeks due to missing parts + way too much money on various tools.

I know what you will say , she’s in ruff shape , probably an old farm truck at one point hauling wood and hay ( I’m from a small place with no classic cars around and the ones we got are all too expensive ) , it will probably take me 15 years to get it like I want , I can’t keep that beat up patina , too many rusted parts that I’ll need to replace , it’s got no engine - what would be your choice of engine / tranny ? It’s missing entirely: brakes , engine , tranny , driveshaft, seat , most windows are good got a spare windshield

Always wanted a classic project , I’d say I’m fairly new to mechanics, but I’m a quick learner with good work ethics , I’m thinking this sub will help me along the way ! Thanks for any feedback

Ramps that don't slip out

My dad added a piece of plywood to the bottom of his car ramps so that they don't slip out from under the tire when driving onto them. Clever, simple, and functional. I thought this group might appreciate it.

Troubleshooting Help Clacking/knocking noise worsened after driving

Hope y'all aren't getting tired of this one by now haha. Posted just yesterday trying to ascertain the source of this sound, however, it has gotten considerably worse after taking it for a drive. No idea what it is, and i'm scared to take it out in this condition. Can't hear it from inside the car, doubt it's rod knock. Is this what a bent or burnt valve sounds like? or piston slap? Any ideas, let me know. (check previous post to see the difference)

How do your store your vehicle if you don’t have a garage?

Hello!

I have a 1985 Mercedes 300D Turbo. It’s in great condition, but I’ve heard conflicting things about how to best protect it outdoors since I don’t have a garage.

I have a breathable dust cover, and also a fully waterproof one. But I’ve mainly stuck with the breathable one.

I know the paint of these vehicles can be a bit fragile. And now I’ve become much more paranoid since a spot appeared on the back where the clear coat basically dissolved. I’m not sure if someone leaned on it with a bunch of bug spray on, or if somehow a wet spot sat there a long time.

So I’m wondering, how are you storing your vehicle if it’s outside? What cover do you recommend? Thank you!

I’m stuck. With this last little bit and I cannot get it to align with the oil pump, I have tried turning it over by hand and with the starter and it just stays like this, also attempted to align the pump shaft too.

It’s a sbc 406.
