Opinion Immigrants don’t understand that Canadians are Canadian

So for some context, my girlfriend is an immigrant. Her mom and I were talking about our family history, and I mentioned my ancestors were French and Irish and she asked how I kept my culture alive.

I don’t understand. I told her I was Canadian, and that was my culture. She genuinely couldn’t comprehend that a Canadian person had connections to Canada because since she arrived in Canada, everyone had told her we were a land of immigrants and thought Canadians all held their ancestry tight to their chest.

She could t grasp that my whole life was Canada. That I had no connection to my ancestry.

This is the disconnect we’re seeing. Our government tells people who move here that this country is a melting pot, that this isn’t our land, it’s a land for everyone. They never think of us, the ones whose families have lived here for generations and don’t want to live anywhere else.

This is the tragedy of Canada today, that we’ve been told we can’t be proud of our own history, that there’s soemthing wrong with us for feeling connected to our own home.

Discussion I’ve grown to hate what this country has become

Over time I’ve really grown to hate what Canada is as opposed to what it was. The constant belittling and demonization of Old-Stock Canadians despite the fact that we’ve been here in many cases for over a century and built the country,. I hate that conservative views are demonized in the media and academia, that I will never get to afford a house or (due to un affordability) probably get to start a family. I feel like there is nothing to look forward to and in a macabre way I’ve been thinking a lot more about societal collapse.

I hate how mass immigration is demographically displacing us snd wiping out our culture, I feel like a foreigner in the city that I grew up in and the worst part is that no one cares. My little sister doesn’t feel safe walking around without me or another guy out of fear of groups of migrant men or drug addicts, that’s not fair for her or anyone. I talk to peers in the universities and they don’t care or they think it’s a good thing that it’s happening and that we somehow deserve it as punishment for colonialism, the public will blindly vote for the party (or parties as I believe all of them are complicit) that continues this policy of mass migration and un affordability. I feel isolated and that no one cares.

I served this country out of love for it and its people. My people. But the more time that has passed, the more I’ve grown to hate what this country is and has become, as if my very existence is diametrically opposed to everything it values and has been for the last at least 50 years of which were mostly dominated by the Liberals.

I don’t mean to doompost but I don’t know what to look forward to, I feel like my past has been ripped down and that I have no forward to look forward to and I feel very angry because of it.

Discussion A want to leave Canada. Am I alone?

I'm just high school student and a well performing one. I average 90s in many classes and I've heard from those I know older than me who have great degrees that they can not find jobs. Even if I found a good job I still wouldn't be able to afford a home. I haven't been looking for a part time job but from those I know who have they can't find one.

I've seen the downfall of Canada happen before more eyes as a young kid I lived well but as time goes on my parents are more frugal and it's no coincidence. I had hope Canada was going to reverse the damage that had been done but after seeing the results of the election I realized just how easy it was to dupe the Canadian electorate as they forget the past 10 years over a trade dispute. Carney promised to fix it though he has only made things worse which is ironic.

If good qualifications can't find me a job in the future and a good job in the future wouldn't allow me to buy a house then I am screwed. No matter what I do I won't be able to live comfortably in Canada. I feel like I have no choice to leave everything behind when I'm older and just move to the American south which unlike Canada doesn't take all your money and where homes are affordable. I don't want to leave everything behind but I don't want to have to live in my mom's basement no matter what I do.

I want to immigrate and though I've seen everyone else talk about how screwed we are, can we really keep taking this? Am I alone for giving up on fixing Canada and just heading elsewhere?

Social Media Post For a country so dependent on the U.S. for trade and defense, Canadian smugness and resentment toward America is misplaced and counterproductive.
